BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Hmm... last year O'Regan, Rodrigues, Oksansen, Baillergeon, Gretzky, O'Connor was a 10 win team. Admittedly we upgraded elsewhere as well in addition to Eichel.

Is it fair to say without Eichel we have maybe 4 more losses? If so, where does that put us? 19-11-5. Right about where UMass Lowell is, or about like BU 2012/2013... a bubble team who is on the outside looking in.

I think Quinn has done a nice job. I think he will be great in the long run, but I agree more with KMZ on this one.
so go over to College Hockey News and use their customization tool to give BU whatever losses you want to and see where they would be in the PWR.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Two years ago: Parker - "Everybody, your job is to dump the puck in as soon as you gain the red line and come in for a line change. I don't care if there's nobody between you and the goalie. Make an individual effort to score and you're on the bench."

Last year: Quinn - "Uh, guys...will you try to go to the net already, and for chrissakes stop dumping the puck in and coming off ice when you have an odd man rush!"

Bad habits take a little while to undo. O'Regan and Rodrigues to name two should thank their lucky starts there was a coaching change. Oksanen as well if he was going to be kept at D his whole career....

Last year O'Regan - 22 Points. Rodrigues 14 points. This year O'Regan 44 points, Rodrigues 54 points.

Are you really going to say that skating with the "straw that stirs the drink" doesn't have a massive impact?

Personally I think he has made more than a 4 win difference this year, but that's just me.

Fingers crossed that we have another year (and another year of Quinn and co recruits to keep beefing up the roster) before we find out what happens without #9.

Don't agree. Last year's team was the worst in decades. Which is a hang over from last 3-4 years of bad Parker. Quinn gets a total pass for last year. This team is more than Eichel. Look at the recruiting to see how good Quinn really is. This team is loaded and is the youngest team in country. Even if they lose Eichel (and it is rumored he WONT go), this team is set for the next few years. Look at the D this year - how many freshman back there and look how they are playing now? How many all american d-men when he was here under Parker?

Quinn should have been the coach after 2009.

You are right on for Parker to not retire after that season was both stupid and arrogant set the program back 5 years

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Can't deny that on paper recruiting is going very well for you guys but do agree with eric that despite what you might think you have, it's hard to really know just how big an impact someone like eichel has on an entire team until he's gone.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Ahti leaving is an absurd thought. One year as a forward, I don't see it. Hickey? No.

Sure, we expected more out of the other freshmen forwards, but the top two lines have produced so much offense that there hasn't been much opportunity, other than Robbie's time out, for them to prove themselves.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Bonanza, with all due respect, you are out of your mind if you think it's "absurd" to say teams wouldn't be looking at oksanen. Teams look to acquire as much talent as possible. Just look at the bruins signing vatrano as a free agent after just one year at umass. With ahti's size, scoring that many goals will get you offers even if you just learned to freakin' skate.

Oksanen piling up points skating with Eichel this season... he will never beat his current numbers and his stock will never be higher. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get some looks and get some offers and see him take it.

Absurd is the wrong word, but going after a guy who's played a position for one year is more than a gamble. We'll see what happens, but I don't see him going.

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Rumored eichel won't go, eh? Who started that one, agganis?

OK, so let me first qualify this by saying that NOBODY can possibly know what he is going to do in advance; however, I have it from a pretty good source who is well-connected in the athletic dept (and I don't want to raise any false hopes, either) that he LOVES it at BU, LOVES his teammates and that it is in NO way a "done deal" as far as him leaving. They are trying to get a couple of his teammates from the World Juniors to come on board for next year, but either way, it was described to me like this: "He's not going to go JUST for the money."

Now I know you cynics out there (of course, I'm NOT cynical at all :D) will say, "That's what they all say." Just reporting what I have heard....

Another contender here, Mook... Click here :D

Yes yes
One of mookie's peeps was asking about her Saturday. There is a YouTube of her report telling one how to avoid a riptide.
Unfortunately she is in a wet suit and not a bikini. (Ch7 would have shown some skin-but Natalie Jacobson's spirit still shines at CVB :( )

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

Austin Matthews has yet to make up his mind....... Correct?

Well, there is also a kid who decommitted from another school who has a certain family connection to BU. I have no inside info, but I'm hoping BU may be on his short list of schools he is now considering.

And if we want any hope of Matthews coming here, we need to start getting his name right: Auston

I thought Keith's boy was looking at MJ?

Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence

On Hickey - the kid looks very impressive. No surprise that he has been getting a lot of attention. I am hopeful that Calgary (and the Hickey family) is looking at the fact that Quinn has groomed several NHL defensemen in recent years.

He could really be a beast in this league as early as next year.
