Re: BU Season Thread II: The Resurgence
The thing is, I hear coaches all the time say we're going to "just play our game," regardless of the competition. To me, this is short-sighted. It's not just about talent, it's also about strategy. That's why all this obsession with the NFL Combine is ridiculous, IMO. Same with hockey. It's not whether the guy has a 101 mph slap shot or 106 mph. Big deal. It's how you UTILIZE the talent. So being obstinate and just "sticking with our game" doesn't always work. Quinn probably sensed that (and there's no need to speculate why...I already did that in my post above....I think it's a lack of experience) and felt as though he needed to "make adjustments." We had a high school football coach who was interviewed the night before the "big game" on local radio. The team we were playing was impossible to run against. Our team was pretty good at passing. The guy asked, "Are you going to change your game plan going into this game?" Our coach replied, "NO, we're gonna run right at 'em, Joe!" Yup. First play guy gets stuffed for a three yard loss and it went downhill from there. We got murdered... 35-8. And the 8 was at the end. Sometimes you gotta adjust...
