Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015
I wonder if that was the "paid" attendance. Season ticket holders were offered free tickets if they responded by a certain time. Since WBA seats 3,800, there had to be 3,000+ at the game. Very few empty seats and a lot of people standing.
It brought back a lot of good memories. Agganis can't hold a candle to the atmosphere at WBA. But no larger, modern area could.
As much as I loved games at WBA, the overall experience at Agganis is eons ahead as far as being a major player in college hockey.
Season ticket holders also got to hear Mike Eruzione speak and with a Q&A at the Eilberg Lounge before the game. Eruzione obviously has this sort of thing down to a science. Talked about how he got to BU, what it was like playing here then, and the dominoes that had to fall for him to get to the 80 Olympic Team. Also spoke a lot about playing for Parker and Brooks, and what was accurate or not in the movie Miracle.
He also had some interesting things to say about Jack Eichel.
Said how great it is "when your best player is also your best teammate." How much Eichel loves the whole college experience.
Said it wouldn't surprise him if Eichel came back for a second year, given how young he is and how much another year could help his further development. Onviously would have a lot to do with what immediate plans the team that drafts him has for him, but it was nice to hear.
Also told a story on how Eichel flew in from a prospects camp, Quinn picked him up at Logan and Eichel asked him to drive him directly to his class.
Apparently he is a smart young man, as well as a supreme hockey prospect.
As for the jerseys ... I like the alternates now better than the older Detroit Red Wings version. I wish they were go back to the Terrier on the front instead of a number. How many numbers do you need - back, both sleeves AND front?
I thought they looked like giant cherries in these thrownbacks, although it was interesting to see "University" on the front..
The USA throwbacks were terrific.
Official attendance listed at 2239 in the box score. There must have been a heck of a lot of people sneak in the side door... No way that arena was less than 60% full tonight.
The jerseys were very sweet. I would not vote that they replace the current third jersey, but I'd hope they get added into the rotation.
Pretty cool being back at Walter Brown. Apart from the seat cushion, I'd say I like it more than Agganis. Hopefully a game ther becomes a somewhat common occourance.
