BU season thread I - 2014-2015

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

A big reason Eichel is playing at BU is the opportunity to play a year "at home." Where's this Matthews fella from?

More Eichel talk during Bucci's EEI appearance this morning.

Auston is from Arizona (can Keith Tkachuk make a call :-))

Eichel is everywhere. Mike Felger asked Cam Neely about him during their weekly interview on 98.5. Cam said he had not seen him, but when asked if the Bruins scouts felt he was worthy of being a first overall pick type of player, Cam said simply, "yes".

FWIW, the OTB editor believes there's a 2% chance that Matthews plays college hockey. Until the past week or so, I hadn't seen his name connected with any college. Maybe the fact that nearly all his U18 teammates have scholarship deals is opening up his thinking...or perhaps it's just another version of the ruse of talking college to get the MJ money (Angelo Esposito) or get rights traded to another team (Victor Mete).

With Warsofsky up with the Bruins, four of the six '09 Ds are skating in NHL games tonight. Colby also is in action tonight, rebuilding his career with ECHL Reading. Does anyone have a KHL schedule?

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I would just think in terms of playing together at World Juniors and being familiar with each other. It also sounded like they took over the BU vs US 18 game. I don't know, from my perspective if you know a great talent like Eichel is going to be somewhere to play with it would only make you be a better player to go there.

The two of them more or less did dominate that game. Very, very, very slim chance Eichel returns. <5% sounds about right.

What happened to Colby that caused him to get out of hockey for a while then end up down in the ECHL?

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

I hope traffic is frustrating and time consuming for your fans going to Providence tonight!
Your team isn't as good as the record indicates!
Red and white are STUPID colors.
You haven't won a national championship in YEARS!!! And probably won't this year either.

Ha! Feel the burn from my flaming!!! (Scarlet- Please don't think less of me but someone had to start some mess)

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

In the post-Drury and pre-2009 years, the only BU forwards who have played in the NHL are Corazzini (12 games w/ B's), Mike Pandolfo (3 games w/ Columbus), Ferro Skladany (1 game w/ Colorado), and VDG (42 games w/ Calgary and Colorado).

Since 2009: McCarthy, Yip, Bonino, Wilson, Chiasson, Coyle, Nieto. All but McCarthy (currently in AHL in Chicago) and Yip (currently in AHL in Norfolk) are top 6/top 9 forwards on their respective teams.

What is your source on Skladany? Hockey Reference lists him and there's a page for him, but it lists only his DOB and Draft Status. Hockey db doesn't list any NHL games for him. Also, there's no plaque for him on the wall at Agganis along with the other BU NHL players.

You're right, my bad on Skladany actually playing in an NHL game. He was called up by the Avs and skated in pre-game warmups one game (in the 2005-06 season), but was a healthy scratch.

What happened to Colby that caused him to get out of hockey for a while then end up down in the ECHL?

Two surgeries last season limited him to a handful of games, some of them in Finland. Now that fugitive Eric Frein has been captured, Colby's slapper may be the most lethal thing in Central PA.:D

He played a few games for the Nottingham Panthers in the EIHL at the start of their season. Chris Higgins currently plays for the Panthers.

I think Colby has had recurring hip problems over the years. I recall hearing that while at BU he had several cortizone injections just to enable him to play through the pain, especially in the 2009-10 season.

Re: BU season thread I - 2014-2015

What caused him to fall out of favor at bu - besides the need to retrieve his scholarship.

He got sick in the fall of his sophomore year and missed a bunch of games, came back from it, played a few games, and then quit immediately after playing in Fenway.

Rumormonger elsewhere, please.
