BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

With grizzlick being a boston kid maybe the bruins don't have any concerns about him signing after senior season

Perhaps. Tommy cross stayed to graduate then signed.
I posted early I just figured that the b's need him to be NHL ready in 2 yrs and that may happen sooner with a yr in the A under his belt.

I certainly hope he stays with us rather than start bus rides for the p'bruins.

Also mentioned before, but coming back to BU for his senior year might seem a bit more attractive if he has followed the career of the most recent Massachusetts born 5' 9" Bruins Defenseman prospect that left BU a year early.

Hoky may get mad but grizz is 1,000,000x the prospect that warsofsky was/is

Why do you give him the satisfaction? Don't you know by now that all he does is come on here and try to instigate? Just ignore him...

Fitchburg? Is that even a town? Thought they turned that dump into a trailer park. "Hi, I live in Fitchburg". "Can I use my EBT card for keno?"

Love Gryz as a player. Great captain as well. My only point was, more than one had their hands in the late collapse. Goalie gave up a softie, but all 3 made mental mistakes on the winning goal. Sure they would kill to do it again. Eichel needed to make sure he didn't lose face off, who cares if you win it, just tie him up. You just cant lose it clean. Gryz needed to stay higher and take wing, no reason to pinch to the middle. DO should never have released and taken off up ice. You watch the video and he is coming back reaching out desperately trying to grab the PC wing who scored. 3 strikes, your out....j

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Re faceoffs, PC won all 7 defensive zone draws from 5:30 and under.

Yeah, that was driving me crazy. Frankly, it is what really led me to think - "this really just isn't going to happen". Of course, Hohmann/Roberto almost proved me wrong.

Long-time lurker here, haven't posted in years. There's been a lot of great comments... it's helping me to stay positive after yesterday. :) Still, I think it hurt less than losing to Northern Michigan in triple overtime (on a bad line change)...

there were a number of issues there, and all season for that matter. eichel obviously wanted to take all faceoffs to prep as much as he could. stats showed that DoR was better at this than him but DQ still allowed eichel to take the majority of draws. on a few occasions late in games DoR would take them, but they were few and again very late in games on obviously important draws.
it was ironic that this goal came off a time out... A BU TIMEOUT. each team had the chance to draw up what they wanted to do. bu didn't deliver on what they planned and didn't play as though pc may have had a plan of their own. that's what happens in sports.

Not gonna work, moron. Give it up.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Just got back home from the weekend in Boston- got to get together with the old group of friends and all go to the game together and was ready to cap off an incredible season- it really had felt like this was a team of destiny but that PC, especially with the way they've been playing as of late, had the chance to ruin the party just like when they gave us the first loss of the season. If we had just gotten outplayed and lost I think we could have handled it better but the stomach punch-iness of the way it happened was brutal. We've seen how hard it is to get to the NC so to lose this opportunity is tough to take- a lot of things have to go right to get back to this point.

That said, it was a pleasure to follow the team all season, and winning the Beanpot and Hockey East really reinvigorated the fanbase. I saw that first hand at BU Alumni Assoc- sponsored watch parties in NYC and I hope that this success encourages more of this kind of support.

Go BU.

Agree that it's "unfair" to compare them. I'll just say this...I remember a game at the Centrum (DCU Center now) in the early 90s I guess (don't really remember or even who the opponent was) in one of those NCAA regionals where he came over the line and absolutely unloaded a bomb that the goalie still hasn't seen. He shot it from right in front of where we were sitting and the goalie never even moved.

I think what "hurts" Eichel in the comparison is that players like Kariya were so flashy and explosive. Eichel is fast but doesn't "look" it because of the long, loping stride. Players that are smaller and quick always seem to be "faster" and "flashier." It was a treat to watch both of them...players like that don't come along very often.

That would have been the regional against Minnesota, which we won 6-2 even though the lights went out.

I will admit to enjoying the excruciating way BU lost that game. It was horrifying. However, the way Matt O'Connor has handled it has been admirable. He faced the music and calmly answered every question the press asked him. I would like to think I would be able to, but I doubt it. I would want to run and hide and try to never think about what happened again. But here's the thing...99% of us will never be in that position. We all make mistakes, make terrible errors, but we have the advantage of never being on a stage where our mistakes are seen by so many. He has achieved so much, he has worked so hard, he has enjoyed success and yes, he has failed. But to even be in that position is so much more than most of us will ever achieve. That is what he should remember. It is inevitable that what happened Saturday night will be remembered - but what should also be remembered is how he responded to it. He showed maturity beyond his years. It takes quite a bit for me to praise someone from BU but he has earned it.

amen brother, you gotta love Matt O'Connor. Prolly not in the position to win it without him. He was outstanding for BU all year. Cheers to this classy young man

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

MMQB: BU helped PC get in to the tournament by winning HE. Based on my calculations, if Lowell had defeated BU in the HE title game, PC doesn't qualify.

BUT kudos to PC for seizing the opportunity and playing their best hockey when it mattered most. Also, despite the outcome, the type of season BU had is one that most of us thought was a huge reach back in October. Disappointed in not winning the championship that matters most, but proud of the program's ascent back towards where BU Hockey should be.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

O'Connor DOES deserve praise for facing the music, so good for him. The problem with losing this one is that it follows a pattern of BU blowing winnable national championship games ('91, '97). You don't always get a chance to get back there again. Ask Miami about that. I don't know if this team will be back soon because I suspect a lot of key players might bolt.

Beyond O'Connor, I don't like how Quinn got outcoached and his more talented on paper team got outplayed. Even the North Dakota game they benefited from two bad goals (vs one given up) to win the game. Something to keep an eye on...

Rover, those games were more than 20 years ago. If they had made the FF 4 of the last 6 years and blew it each time in the championship game I would agree with you. North Dakota making it to the FF and coming home empty handed the last however many years, that's a pattern. This team won big games all year.

Not sure I even want to get into this, but what concerns me more (and we are ALL disappointed...and after putting things in perspective there's no choice but to move on) is that you seem so ANGRY. Have there been teams in the past (and I'm not even talking BU hockey here...just in general) that are perceived to have "mailed it in?" Yes. Are there teams that have underachieved? Yes. Does THIS team fit into either of those categories? NO WAY. I saw nothing but top notch effort all year from this team. I hardly even noticed the Providence celebration, because I was looking down at our end of the ice at the complete devastation that these players, some of whom couldn't even stand up for a full minute, felt at the end of this game. I can't fault inexperienced players for making mental mistakes in the biggest game of their lives. They left everything out there. Disappointment...sure. But anger? No.

Yes but they're over the time I've been watching the program. As I said, Quinn getting outcoached albeit by a good coach is something that bears watching, not something I'm jumping to conclusions about.
