Conner Hellybuyck. I'll hang up and listen

Sure, another great example, though Eichel never played against him, thus the reason for not using him in the comparison. That said, I'd give Gillies an edge in terms of potential based on his size. Both are excellent goalies who have bright futures ahead in the NHL.

Training and technique are miles ahead of what kariya faded.

Another great point, and it applies to skaters as well. JD's point that the D in today's game compared to 20 years ago is much more advanced it entirely true. Players are bigger, stronger, generally older, conditioning and strength training programs are in another world than what they were in the early '90s. It's very much an apples and oranges comparison between Jack and Paul, and not really fair to either to compared them against one another.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Eichel needs to work on his scoring touch. He makes moves and skates past people like they are traffic cones---then airmails the shot or fires wide 80% of the time. The goals he scored are open net or tipped more often than not.
I can see him putting up Joe Thornton numbers where he has 60 assists and 18 goals

I completely agree there's things Jack can and should work on in his game, and I'm sure he knows that too. Though it's still a huge longshot for him to return, we all know that. It would take a ballsy GM to tell his fanbase to wait another year for their "savior" to arrive.

I saw kariya play way more than I've seen Eichel(obviously), Kariya could rip a wrister or a slap shot but it wasn't his first choice. Either way both are players all college hockey fans are lucky to see.

Take buffalo.

Jack can't save buffalo. He could prolly let them poop a turd next year and get a #1 overall again then join along with them like after the strike when Geno and Sid were able to join PIttsburgh at the same time

Agree that it's "unfair" to compare them. I'll just say this...I remember a game at the Centrum (DCU Center now) in the early 90s I guess (don't really remember or even who the opponent was) in one of those NCAA regionals where he came over the line and absolutely unloaded a bomb that the goalie still hasn't seen. He shot it from right in front of where we were sitting and the goalie never even moved.

I think what "hurts" Eichel in the comparison is that players like Kariya were so flashy and explosive. Eichel is fast but doesn't "look" it because of the long, loping stride. Players that are smaller and quick always seem to be "faster" and "flashier." It was a treat to watch both of them...players like that don't come along very often.

of course mookie, how else do you get fools like Jofa to bite and show their ignorance

"goalies were not as good in 90's."
they Also had garbage skates, crap sticks that weighed 40 lbs and no where near the focus on individual skill like they do now.
Tom Barraso would have been stud in 90 and still would be today.

But it was Mookie that bit not me your lack of basic brain function is as epic as OC's flub . You are a veritable clown show with a keyboard

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Then trade him away because he doesn't fit the system.

You can play Claude's "system" on one of those old "knob" hockey games where every player can only move back and forth in his "slot." Any deviation (read: creativity, improvisation, excitement) results in banishment. Who needs players like Kessel and Sequin? All they do is score goals. That CAN'T be more important than preventing them, right?

Why do you give him the satisfaction? Don't you know by now that all he does is come on here and try to instigate? Just ignore him...

I was more considering the Gillies is the future of USA hockey comment, which I found a stretch, considering Connor was playing third string goalie for an NHL team last night, while Gillies was winning the 'ship. Connor sits on a short list for AHL POY this year (only read a few blogs about AHL in general, he seems to always be mentioned in POY and Best Goalie conversations as their season closes.

...a discussion for another time to be sure. It was a great weekend of hockey and a great season by you guys. It'll be interesting to see how the summer plays out

With grizzlick being a boston kid maybe the bruins don't have any concerns about him signing after senior season

Whoops, guess I should've gone back more than one page.

Connor was third string last night because he left last year, Gillies stayed. Both are extraordinary goaltenders, both are very young and have a lot of playing time ahead of them. I only commented that I'd give Gillies an edge in terms of overall potential due to being a bit bigger than Connor. That's not a slight, both have enormous potential. You Lowell fans take offense to everything, don't you?
