I wouldn't wish the way you lost on anyone.. well except BC. The one guy I really liked was #7 .. is he returning for you?

I'd like to return the favor. That is, if your team could ever get to the position BU was in last night or the position BC has been in so many times.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

On a completely different note.....did you guys know Denver is coming to Agganis next season? Puck Swami posted it on my FB page last night. Does that mean a return trip there the next season?

I was referring to the general well documents douchiness of the BC fanboys. (though not all BC fans). The Niedermeyer's of HE..

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

As the years pass the sting of this loss will linger even should BU win a bunch of titles in the next several years. It is always the one that got away that you want the most. However it is great that BU Hockey is back and in great shape for years to come. BU-BC Hockey is again the ultimate rivalry of top flight programs. While I loudly cheered on Providence at the game had it been BU against a western school I would have been behind the Terriers. It was much more pro-Providence than anti-BU among the 3rd party fans(those of us on the outside looking in, not the true winners of the programs that made it that far). All other teams wish thay could have gone as far as BU did. PC won the game by taking over the tempo and playing much the way BU did earlier in the game. They began to fire on net from all over the ice just like BU did in the first period. Sooner or later one would have gone in just like BU got their first goal to sneak by Gillies. To me the game changing moment was when Eichel lost his cool in the penalty box not Matt O'Connor's flub. I cringe when I see a player act that way and often feel that a fall from grace leads to adversity. Also when the penalty was just about over BU sent a player over to Eichel and then to the players on the ice and after a decent amount of time left the ice as well. I am sure they were setting up a play for Eichel coming out of the box but the method seemed rather unfair. Perhaps this same strategy, setting up a play, after the timeout led to the final Friar goal as BU appeared to be intent on a breakout play. Eichel is a great player that has vision and skills that will take him far in the NHL. All I have heard about him is how humble he is too. Matt O'Connor's leadership and humility has been an inspiration for him and should help Jack even more now. I thought otherwise O'Connor was superb throughout the game. He did not lose the game, PC won it. BU had PC bottled up with their ferocious forecheck and took PC off their game. Inexplicably either PC found an answer around the forecheck or BU settled back and PC was able to play their game and controlled play. The game winning goal luckily was not a fluke otherwise it would be even harder to take the loss. As bad as it hurts, BU had a great season and deservedly made it to the title game.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Maybe next year, the freshman-sophomore class comes out hungrier. New recruits get on board with the hard work ethic pushed by Quinn, and we pull off an Eagles-like run for a few years.

This implies that the 2014-2105 wasn't hungry. Nothing could be further from the truth. They were hungry - just got caught in protecting a one goal lead a bit more than we would have liked. I believe if PC had scored the "inevitable" tying goal in "conventional" fashion, BU would have won the game. The nature of the tying goal was demoralizing. They never recovered.

This was a special team. Unlikely we see one like it for some time.

BU Hockey: Opportunity Lost

Interesting point. I think everyone runs through the "what if" scenarios. Had that mistake not happened, would PC have scored? They totally outshot BU in the third. Say the game goes to OT and PC wins? Would that sting any less, the same, more?

I think what made it a fascinating season for me is that until the game ended, people really believed that BU could tie the game up, because they had been doing stuff like that all season. Let's say BU does tie it up after that mistake and PC pulling ahead. And then PC wins in OT? Does that hurt less? Possibly.

A loss is a loss. You cannot put this all on O'Connor. You can't. The team lost.

It's sort of amazing that these crazy things happen in these tournament games. It wasn't just a loss. It was a crazy unfortunate mistake that lead to a huge momentum shift. Last year, Minnesota scores with 0.6 seconds. The Yale Qpac championship game was so incredibly even till an end of period goal. And we all remember 2009. I love this tournament.

Scarlet- BU is lucky to have you as a fan . I love your passion !

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Well, this year, BU got really complacent. They thought they could just coast through the third period.

There's an enormous difference between playing a poor period and being complacent. BU absolutely positively not complacent. Jittery? Nervous? Anxious? Clock watching too much? All possibilities. All completely understandable for the youngest team in the sport. To their credit, PC came out and played the third with nothing to lose and skated harder than they had all night and played an incredible period. That's a great lesson for our players to take moving forward on playing in pressure situations, as much as it hurts. But complacent and didn't care? Not a chance.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Oh, and we haven't even talked about how close Hohman and Roberto came to tying the game late. Not meant to be.

Yeah, I was up out of my seat as that was transpiring. You could *see* how that goal was going to come. Not to be.

2007 is the one that got away for us. Lerg was clutch and MSU capitalized on BC mistakes.

Watching the replay, it appears that the puck was bouncing and neither player could get off a solid shot.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

Couldn't tell who it was but it was as if he hooked the shot attempt back into gillies rather than towards the net

At 1:19 is when the initial shot has reached Gillies, and there are four Friars in a row all looking backwards all thinking the same "Oh bleep" thought. It's just Hohmann trying to settle that puck down right in front. If that goes in, that's what the PC folks would be killing themselves over. How does nobody know there's a guy camped out right in front?!? Oh well. :o

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

I've been really quiet the past few years on this forum, but this year's team has pulled me back in, even more so than the '06 or '09 teams. I'll be the first to admit that my frustration with OC got the best of me last night. But after sleeping on it, and especially after reading this article (http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2015/04/12_oh_no,_oc.php) and seeing just how much Quinn has changed the culture of this program, this was as much a true team as I've seen at BU in the past 15 years or so. The future really is bright, and I am SO looking forward to the puck dropping on the start of next season. Here's to a great season and many more to follow! Go BU! :)

After the game Hohmann was bemoaning that he'd lost his footing on the play. That contributed to his "hooking" the puck as JD noted. If his second-period goal had stood up as the game-winner, he'd have had my vote for MOP. He had an exceptional two games.

part of hockey. same way Gryz went to the inside and lost #22 on the game winning goal. Hockey players make mistakes.

Maybe nervous is a better word.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

this isn't the least bit funny but i have an idea for you and your team, how about joining the party once in a while and while we are at it, beat BU when it actually means something. Your rival? It's laughable as is your team and it's pathetic history

Please folks, don't let the ridiculously inappropriate RossiRules post reflect on the rest of the Northeastern fan base, where Mr. RR tends to be regarded as an outlier. We've had too many of our own moments of ignominy to chortle when something like this happens, even to a bitter rival.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

it wasn't the last 2 games. it was the last 4. he had a shot hit his glove and roll out and in against ylae. then passed the puck to a duluth dude who shot it in the open net the next night.

the sioux tap in was #3. i guess these things come in 4ers :p

i hope he signed a contract this morning, cause i can't see anyone throwing $$$$$$$ at the chuck knobloch of goalies (sorry to say).

also while we're at it.
our fourth line didn't play in the 3rd period. they have been the only real physical line all year. in hindsight i imagine that may have helped in the first 15min of the 3rd there to give pause to the pc push as the top 3 lines were lucky to dump and change when they could in fact get the puck over the red line.

macloud had a nice view of it all from the bench. too many penalties by him early found him the dog house, which hurts a lot as he is the only right hand shot at the point and bu then has struggles at times keeping pucks in up that right wall.

Most accurate post of the night... I would have much more sympathy for OC if there wasn't a similar goal allowed literally every NCAA tournament game. It is not a fluke when something like that happens 6-7 times in a season. BU needs to start recruiting more top flight goalies to go along with their blue chip skaters. Since Dipietro 15 years ago, the most highly touted goalie recrut was MaGuire? who is a 4th round pick. (Certainly, Curry was terrific, but BU found him by default) Hopefully, Quinn places more emphasis on recruiting blue chip goalies. In one and done playoff games, it is tough to expect to win with an average goalie.

Re: BU season thread 4 - 2014-15 // destiny's children

than just say it like it is. with title on the line the better team stepped up and ran them out of the building
enough with the Paul Kariya JE comparisons.

When it counted, Kariya as a true freshmen put up 100 points and carried team back in third in natl champ gm, when they were down 4-2 after 2, ended up winning 5-4. All 3 goals came from Kariya to Monty. Against two time defending natl champs and an amazing D corp
