BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

What is his status with BU? I think the BHB said it was somewhat unclear with Moccia returning?

The post from Rogie says 2015 recruit. Was he 2014 at one point? Or what do you mean by status? If Moccia comes back then he would continue as the third string, and in 2015, Maguire and O'Connor would be seniors and Starrett a freshman, right?

Good catch. I think he was 2014 at one point.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

NTDP U18 LD Brandon Fortunato, recent Harvard decommit, has verballed to BU for next season. Was top scoring D on the U18s (3-36-39). 14 PIMs. Joins U18 teammates Jack Eichel and RD Johnathan MacLeod in 2014 recruit class.

Starrett was recruited for 2015 but, if O'Connor or Maguire chose to leave this summer, would've been for 2014.

Nice to get at least one of these decommits - we can't let BC have ALL the fun.

Big get. Blueline is still very young for next season but the forwards should be able to take the pressure off them and the goalies can cover for some of their mistakes

Seems there should be on-ice chemistry here.

And for those of us that are still "nervous", it helps our confidence level that Eichel is indeed coming to Comm Ave.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Question - does the fact that three of the 2014 recruits - Coughlin, Olsson, and Abramson (I think) - weren't "announced" as the other 6 were mean anything? I'm not familiar with the whole LOI process. And I'm certain Parker didn't "announce" recruits until much later. Just curious.

Fortunato sounds like a very nice add on.

I've been a doubter. If Eichel and Hanifin both play college next year, I hope some of the matchups are on TV out here... No top 5 NCAA draft picks since 2007, and there could be two in their draft year.

In '05-06, Kessel and Toews played four times in their draft years. Other than that, I don't think it's happened in at least 20 years.

It means they didn't sign a LOI. Unless you're getting money right away you can't sign a LOI. For instance, BU could not have announced Gilroy in the 2005 recruiting class.

Correct.

Just a bit of additional detail: If players aren't getting an athletic scholarship in year 1 they cant sign an LOI even if they have a full scholarship for their sophomore, junior, and/or senior years. However, if they get as much as $.01 of athletic scholarships in their first year they can sign an LOI.

Teams can only publicly announce players who have signed LOIs or attended their first class at the school, so you won't hear official confirmation on any of the walkons until September.

Of course money could free up or be reshuffled over the summer resulting in a partial scholarship for any of the walkons at which point they could sign an NLI and BU could then announce it.

Basically the NCAA rules are needlessly complicated.

Basically this. I would imagine the other recruits will be announced sometime in August since they usually get them on campus for Summer Session II so then they could announce them as official members of the class at that point

Yes. Will be a 4yr player due to size and he will qb the pp for potentially all of them.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2015 recruit Vas Kolias (5-9 LD, Chicago Mission) was the fourth pick overall (and first d-man) in the USHL's dispersal draft. Picked by Youngstown, he'll join 2015 recruit Maxim Letunov on the Phantoms next season. Recently crowned USHL champ Indiana is suspended operations due to arena issues. Sam Kurker, who joined the Ice in January, was also picked in the first round, by Sioux City, and reportedly will play another USHL season.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2016 BU recruit Hank Crone's Dallas Stars Elite U16 coach sets the bar high for the high skilled forward who will spend the next few seasons with Omaha.

“He’s a small forward who is a tremendous, high-end offensive player. His hockey IQ and his skills are probably as good as any player in his age group,” said Dallas Stars Elite U16 coach Eric Silverman. “He has the look to me like a player we’ll be talking about in the Hobey Baker conversation one day.”

This past season he registered 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) in 31 games with the Stars Elite U16 team.
