BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

People cannot be blind here right? BU has a new head coach and I'm sure BU is going to have to have new asst coaches which will include a new recruiting co-ordinator. No recruit is safe and no current player on the roster minutes are safe. Its the nature of the business and the risk every potential college athlete takes and BU is no exception. Is it fair? No but its reality.

Just my opinion - given the lack of sustained success over the past 15 years, the challenges that the program went through last year, and just the fact that Jack is old enough to practically be some of these kids grandfather (not to mention the supposed warning that the recruits have been given over the past couple years about likelihood of Jack being around), I find it hard to beleive that there are many recruits and parents out there feeling they have to change course. In fact, I would argue that it's even more likely that there were some recruits who were thinking of changing course that are now not going to. Could someone use the change as an excuse to back out? Sure. But this isn't like the situation at NU with Cronin. BU has too much else to offer to their recruits.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Looking at the BU commits, all the forwards are either showing up this fall or are still in high school. There isn't anyone that they can bump up a year. Are they planning on bringing in some more forwards? If not, I think there is going to be a serious lack of depth.

No connections just going on experience when a head coach retires/gets let go etc..especially when a program has been under performing on and off the ice for years.

Are there scenarios from other schools that are similar to the current BU case? Which ones and when were they?

Evan and Danny will play 30+ mins, each game, as forwards, we're good =)

things will change, the skill is there, trust me these kids are good. Coaching was the downfall, players from 2012 were playing 1980 style of game. Remember Jacky said the game hasn't changes since he started coaching...i almost feel off my chair when i read this. Someone please watch a game from the 80's its freaking painful to watch. The game has evolved so much.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

If these recruits can't play for another D1 Program or weren't recruited by other D1 HE Programs are they really going to help the Terriers in the long run?

What on earth does that mean? Almost everyone in the 2013 recruit class who isn't a recruited walk-on was pursued by other D1 programs and the group includes three NHL draft picks (not a guarantee of success, of course). FWIW, Somerby, Baillargeon and Collier were all recruited by New Hampshire and others; Duane by Providence and Cornell; Kelley by Providence and St. Lawrence; and MacAfee by Michigan. That said, Baillargeon appears to be the one forward who could earn a spot on the top two lines and only because Nieto left.

Right now there are 13 forwards for next season, so it'll be shocking if they don't bring in at least one more forward. Ronan and Ryan have played both forward and defense, but are likely to be counted as Ds next year.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

USHR and OverTheBoards report that KUA forward Nick Roberto decommitted from Maine. The Providence Journal's Mark Divver tweeted that Roberto is being recruited by BU and UNH for 2013 and Providence for 2014. He was KUA's top goal scorer this year and also USHR's Prep Forward of the Year.

One of a flurry of decommits in recent weeks following the dismissal of several coaches.

How many KUA guys does UNH have coming? More than the two we do? (I'm including the guy who went to the USNDTP). Hopefully we have more and that will give us a leg up :-)

FWIW, before KUA, Roberto played for Malden Catholic with Brendan Collier. And on the Maine thread, they're already questioning how good he is.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

So he visits BU tomorrow according to the article linked on the Maine thread. So who exactly is recruiting him tomorrow??

Parker, who is no longer coaching the team?
Bavis, who may not be with the team next year?
Quinn, who is supposedly with the Avalanche until the end of their season?

I wouldn't be surprised if Parker is still technically "coaching" the team. All he said was he was retiring after the season, that doesn't mean they didn't work it out so his contract ended April 30 or something, when Quinn could officially come on after the AHL season.

I presume Quinn is still in Colorado and is not necessary for him to be here for a tour of the campus / facilities etc. Until I hear differently, I'm assuming that Bavis will be here next year, so I'd guess it would be him.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

As reported on the BU thread earlier, Roberto has commited for 2013. His coach Mike Levine says “Nick is a high energy guy, is quick, does not shy away from physical play, and has established a nice touch over the past two seasons.” He added that “We are very excited to have three kids from KUA commit to BU over the past two seasons.”

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2016 recruit Cam Askew has been signed to a tender by USHL Indiana and will join the Ice in the fall. USHL draft is tonight and it's expected that 2015 recruit Shane Starrett will be one of the goalies taken early on. He was ranked #15 among N.American goalies by Central Scouting in the final ranking after having been #35 on the midyear list.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Mike McMahon of The Mack Report tweeted that BU received a commitment from right-shot forward Bobo Carpenter, son of former NHL first-round draft choice Bobby Carpenter. He’s currently a sophomore at Austin Prep, where he was the second leading scorer (16-14-30) and had a four-goal game this past season. Soonest he’d arrive at Agganis Way is September 2015.

Last fall, in a review of top players in the New England Fall Prep league, USHR wrote:

Bobo Carpenter, F, ’96 (Middlesex Islanders U18) 5-10/170 — Son of former St. John’s Prep and NHL star Bobby Carpenter, and younger brother of BC women’s star forward Alex Carpenter. Good bloodlines, we’d say. Bobo can really fire the puck. Plays with a lot of energy and is as tenacious as they come.

A recent Eagle Tribune article discusses his strengths.
