BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Just saw Bellows interviewed. Man, he looks just like his dad!!

Even scarier is Matt Tkachuk. I saw the interview with him, he looks SO much like his dad. Even has that lisp-type thing going when he talks. Not sure how to describe it, but you'll know what I mean if you watch it. I wonder if Brady looks as much like Keith.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Kirk Luedeke profiles Kieffer Bellows, leading off his scoutingpost blog's 2016 NHL Draft Drum Beat.

Bellows' team-leading seventh goal, a deflection of a Clayton Keller shot, enabled the U18s to tie Notre Dame yesterday, 2-2. Keller had the other goal. Dynamic duo will be at Agganis on Friday.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Penticton's standout defenseman Dante Fabrro commits to BU for 2016. He reportedly had chosen between BU, BC, North Dakota, Minnesota and Denver. Projected by many to be a top ten pick in June's draft. Future Considerations has him at #9, while it has McAvoy at #16, Keller #19, Bellows #20 and Krys #22. Five in the top 22 ??? Just like the call on Bonino's goal in 2009: Unbelievable!!

Two things
Harper is C rated but will be a bigger impact than several ranked higher. Size if off for NHL but not D 1
Secondly, several F's playing now won't be next two years
Lot of miserable guys walking around in suits

You mean several "D's", correct?

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

The two top scorers on the U-18s. Two of the top defensemen available in the 2016 draft. An elite goalie prospect. Has BU ever had this level of talent signed on for a recruiting class? Add in Crone, MacDermott, and Kolias. Wow.

Has anyone? I honestly think no.

They must be thinking Hickey will sign after this year. Perhaps Somerby too (drafted, big, have to think the Isles will want him after this year).

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

So. Barring early departures, BU has for next year:

1. MacLeod
2. McAvoy
3. Hickey
4. Fabbro
5. Krys
6. Somerby
___________
Diffley
Fortunato
Switzer

Yikes. I would think BU is anticipating one of the top three guys bolting next off-season.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

what website had that chart with the classes coming in with different colors and asterisk with flight risks for a given year?

with these kind of kids one has to over-recruit to fill holes before 'graduation'...no?

Seems fine to me if that is the roster. Gophers had eight drafted D last year. I would guess Hickey goes, though.

Somerby is almost certainly gone after his junior year. He reportedly gave some thought to leaving this summer. Hickey certainly could be a flight risk despite his quotes on education making him the College Hockey Inc. poster boy. Quinn expects him to make Team Canada for the WJCs and a strong showing there could be enough. However, Calgary has shown patience with college standouts--Gaudreau, Gillies, Jankowski.

I think the verbal by Fabbro, following on the heels of Chad Krys' commit, with so many talented Ds already on the roster (and David Farrance coming in 2017) is further evidence that talented young defensemen taking the college route want to be molded into NHLers by David Quinn. They know the six Ds he coached on the 2009 team have all reached the NHL.

Assuming young Fabbro is Italian, what a way to celebrate Columbus Day, no matter what John Oliver says. ;)
