Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Courtesy of USHR, defenseman Nolan DeJong decommitted from Cornell and chose Michigan. BU was the other finalist.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Interesting. Da Jong was a 2014-15 Cornell commit, but Heisenberg has him going to Michigan next year. BU loses two senior Ds and has two '94s (Somerby, McAfee) in next year's recruit class. Assuming BU also wanted him for 13-14, it would seem that either one of the '94s (now playing prep) is going to play a season of junior or BU wanted to protect itself against a possible early departure by Noonan.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

JJ Piccinich is BU’s third ’96 recruit—joining Jack Eichel and Jonathan MacLeod—and is scheduled to arrive at Agganis Way in 2014 or 2015. He’s also the third Terrier recruit in recent years from the NJ Avalanche program, the others being Alexx Privitera and 2013 recruit Jarrid Privitera.

A 5-11 right wing, he led the Avalanche U16s in scoring with 23-19-42 in 22 games, then added 8 points in four games at the U16 Nationals. He also played high school hockey and led his team in scoring. An invitee to the March NTDP camp this past March, he’ll play for the USHL Youngstown Phantoms this year.

USHR, which projects him as a top six forward in college: “A gritty, hard-working, intelligent player, Piccinich can really shoot a puck and make plays.” His skating isn’t top end, according to a few sources, but he’ll have two USHL seasons to work on it and Mike Boyle has a track record of helping players with very good skills and hockey sense improve their skating (Mike Pandolfo, Nick Bonino, etc.)

Phantoms Director of Player Personnel Jason Koehler:

A strong student—like MacAfee who committed last week—he was also being pursued by several Ivies and reportedly BC and PC, too.

Must be real hard for the Privatera's to find those bicycle license plates or street signs for your bedroom door with their first names on them.

Imagine how many team managers, club paperwork pushers or tournament program printers must mess up Alexx and Jarrid.

Last year, Moran was traded from the BCHL to the AJHL. Instead, he headed back to Massachusetts and played in the EJHL for the final month of the season.

This I could see, since the leagues are essentially the same level, just different geography. But it's my understanding that the three main US leagues are pretty separated in terms of caliber:
USHL
EJHL
NAHL

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Duane has 3G, 1A in his first two games with the Jr. Bruins. He'd previously played in the Jr. Bruins organization on teams with Kurker and Grzelcyk.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2014 recruit Jack Eichel scoring one of his two unassisted goals against Tri-City this past weekend. Leads U17s in scoring with 7-11-18 in 19 games.

Kevin Duane's GWG Saturday night was his 5th in five games since joining the Jr. Bruins.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2014 recruit Jack Eichel scored a power play goal and a shorthander, also added an assist in Team USA's 6-2 win over Canada Pacific in a pre-tournament game at the World U17 Challenge. He was named Team USA Player of the Game and leads the NTDP U17s in goals and scoring with 10-12-22. FastHockey is streaming the tournament games for free. Team USA plays Canada Ontario today at 1:30 p.m. ET

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Jack Eichel named Player of the Game in Team USA 6-5 shootout win over Ontario.
He was on the ice a lot and looked good. Think he had 2 goals.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Yes, Eichel had two and nearly two more..and set up Milano at the goal-mouth for what could have been the GWG with 10 seconds left. If he makes it to BU, could easily be a one-and-done. Jonathan MacLeod very strong on D, similar to Strait. DU recruit Feigl impressed, too. Just a terrific hockey game.
