BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Sorry for hijacking:

- do you have to have your own twitter account and name/handle in order to receive tweets from others?
- how do tweets "arrive" - by email? text? some other sort of alert? Or do you log into your own twitter page on the web and see the tweets (similar to how I think "Faceplant" operates)

I need to catch-up with all you young whipper-snappers.

Basically you "follow" people and everything they tweet shows up whenever you go to the site similar to an RSS feed. If someone says something to you it shows up in that feed (and a 2nd feed similar to the first but only containing things related to your personal twitter) and you also get an email notifying you that someone has said something to you.

You do not need an account to read tweets, however it's much easier as the tweets of people you follow are all in one place as opposed to hunting them down individually.

Anybody have any scoop on this whole Kevin Roy thing? How would they find a scholarship for him this late? Or would they tell him they can cover him for his last three years (which sounds like it would be less than that if he is as good as everyone is saying).

They wouldn't find scholarship money, it's all officially long gone for this season. They might give him a 3 year back end, but why would he do that when other top schools might have $$$ for all four years?

Out of my comfort zone but it could be that the school could put together a decent package of aid for year one and then move somebody to scholarship.

If my kid wanted to go to school A and I thought school A was best...and I had to pay a few grand vs. sending him to school B, where we didn't think it was the best fit but was 100% free..I'd pay the $$.

I don't know the answer but there are plenty of reasons why someone might pick a school other than purley on who has scholarship money.

Jack Eichel is picked number 15 overall in the QMJHL draft by the Halifax Mooseheads. Sounds like a surprise pick and not a great sign.

Yeah, that is concerning.

I saw a list of the final "rankings" for the draft, and Eichel wasn't on it al all. Do these rankings take into consideration the known status of a player with regard to Q vs. NCAA? I would think they must, because it would seem he would be pretty high on the list otherwise. On the other hand it seems like a very subjective component to try to work into rankings, unless they just use some black and white criteria - e.g. if they have given a verbal to a school they don't get on the list.

Eichel willing to listen to what Mooseheads have to offer.

The Mooseheads have a solid sales pitch — a star-studded team gearing up for a run at a QMJHL championship and a Memorial Cup — and Eichel said he’s “willing to listen” to what they have to offer.

“I really don’t know yet,” Eichel said. “I have some great advisers so I have to talk to them. My plans are, right now, to go to the national team next year, but I do take everything year by year and try not to look too far forward.”

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2014 recruit Jack Eichel is at the Select 16s in Rochester where he's tied for third in scoring with 3-4-7. AHR's day two scouting report named him the day's top forward:

Best Forward: John Eichel - Boston (EmJHL) - 6-2/180
John is an elite player and he’s going to be the leader of the USNTDP U-17s this season. Not only was he by far the best player here but he’s a late ’96 and isn’t even eligible for the NHL Draft until 2015. He went coast-to-coast multiple times and absolutely dominated when he wanted to. John looks like a man amongst boys here and is a special player. AHR Rating: AAA
