BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

And Ruikka would have to enroll in grad school to stay. Any word on whether he plans on coming back for his 5th year or not?

Does Parker even want Ruikka back? Just from the games I've seen he's pretty horrendous back there (like barely serviceable).

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

What might be changing is the number of departures-- some additional players might sign early.

I believe that if it were up to Clendenning he would leave but is not at this time getting that opportunity. I think the probability is large that Chiasson is the only early departure.

I think I want whatever you're drinking. The team will lose more. Many players sign after the summer rookie camps. Those start in late June and go through early August. The teams can spend up to 5 days watching their draftees and free agents and then make decisions if they feel players are ready or would benefit more from pro training. Wait and see...

I don't think he needs to be drinking anything to make that remark. From a talent perspective, I don't see anyone that has much of any shot of playing in the NHL next year other than Chiasson. So why leave early to "ride the bus"? Now, if people want to leave because of the hits to the program, that is another story.

The names that seem to come up most are Clendening and Nieto. I could see Clendening leaving, but Nieto? Good player with great speed, but I'd say he has a long way to go to be an NHL threat.

Not trying to be obnoxious, but many players do bail out early not because they are NHL ready, but because they feel they are, their parents think they are, the NHL clubs tell them they are (even if they're not) or they just want to start getting paid for playing the sport. I see clendening, nieto, possibly megan, and if he has a good camp, noonan. if he works on his skating and goes to bolts camp, it is not far fetched to see Courtnall going due to his physicallity. He is a tough sob and they might want him to work with

Of course anything is possible but I am looking at it from the perspective defkit mentioned and whether some or all of these guys want to leave (not saying they do), I don't see them finding interest in signing them now from the pro ranks.

Parker thinks that way, but you shouldn't. Young players and their dads want to see them with a contract and part of a pro organization, even if it means playing in the AHL.

You cite Megan and Courtnall as flight risks and ask someone else what they've been drinking?

If BU had so many players who are possible departures, how did they not make the FF?

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

One thing that I think is going to hurt BU next year is the fact that Robert Polesello no longer appears to be the immediate impact type player that many were predicting he would be a year or two ago. In 55 games for the USHL's Indiana Ice, he's got a 15-16-31 (+8) scoring line, which likely doesn't translate into a high scoring freshman year at BU. As a comparison, BC recruit Austin Cangelosi, who is several months younger than Polesello and who's also a first year USHL player, has a 28-28-56 (+18) line in 50 games.

Why leave early to ride the bus, you ask? Perhaps you should ask David Warsofsky, Justin Maiser, Dan Cavanaugh, and Brian Strait. Guys who saw very little, if any, NHL games in the years they could have/should have been at BU.

Some guys just leave early.

I understand that some guys do. But I think it is fruitless to try to think of who might decide to leave when the rest of the world doesn't think they are ready. Every team could have 5 guys like that every year. So yes, sure, we could have another Maiser, Scott King, John Lilley, etc. - guys that think they need to be elsewhere to keep their hockey development going. But those tend to be once every three year situations in my book. When you have guys who are threats to leave because the team that drafted them wants to get them into the organization now - that is where I don't see anyone else really being a threat, other than perhaps CLendening.

Ohl draft is now.. Any boys we think are coming at risk to go high and split?

Very well said. I get a kick out of Clandenning leaving. Did anybody saying this watch him play towards the end of the season. He can take off if he wants, but definitely a guy who needs a bit more seasoning in college IMHO.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

I swear I've read this on other places, but it escapes me where, but isn't Clendening's dad one of the biggest factors in his possible leaving? I thought I read somewhere that his dad would make him run drills after his practices and whatnot starting really young. Dad also had NHL ties to the Bruins correct? So in my opinion I'm pretty sure that's a bigger factor than people account for. His dad clearly wants him in the NHL, and I thought I read somewhere that he wanted him gone after freshman year.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Not sure if this was posted yet or not, but Danny O'Regan is the only non-NTDPer to make it on team USA's u18wc roster. Lane and Grzelcyk also on the roster. Michigan has 4 recruits, Miami has 3, so we're tied for second with most recruits.

Whoooopdie dooo! Getting talented players has never been the problem at BU, it's getting them to buy into the program, further developing their skills, keeping them in the classroom/academically eligible and most importantly, keeping them sober :D:p

I see you're already in mid-season from on your recruiting trolling. First the poorly hidden attempt to show how BC is out-recruiting BU (the Pollesello post brought back the good old days of Gerbe/Lawrence, etc.), and then jumping on any attempt for BU fans to find the slightest glimmer of hope.

Unfortunately, you're going to get no push-back in the forseeable future, since there is really nothing left to argue about.

So then, Clendening's dad = Hokydad?

Many players? Can you even name 5? Very few guys sign after summer rookie camps.
