Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Wow - this thread was waaaaay back. Anyway, Rogie posted the mid-term CSB rankings on the fan blog:

41 - Sam Kurker (2013)
43 - Rob Baillargeon (2013)
112 - Danny O'Regan (2013)
123 - Kevin Duane (2013)
131 - Brendan Collier (2013)
133 - Matthew Lane (2012)

I'd say 2013 is shaping up pretty well:D

Granted no top rounders, but pretty nice nonetheless.

2013 is shaping up very good. I am, however, a little concerned about the quality of the 2012 class after taking an admittedly casual glance on how they stack up against other teams recruits as well. Also, concerned with this year's freshman class with 2 goals by forwards as of the middle of January. It may be wishful thinking but hopefully there aren't any early departures so that there isn't a "bridge" year to 2013.

Next year will certainly be interesting. Two freshmen goalies (again). I have no concerns with this year's freshmen. True, even Juha Vuori probably had a goal by this point of his freshman season, but I see some good skills in Rodrigues' game, and Hohmann shows some good speed. It looks like Privitera has locked down a permanent spot at this point.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

BU has a commitment for 2015 from Kimball Union freshman John MacLeod, a 6-2, 165 right shot defenseman. In 16 games for KUA, MacLeod has an 0-9-9 line for the Wildcats. He was a standout at last summer’s Select 15 camp.

USHR quotes Mike Levine, his coach at KUA, as saying MacLeod “is a special talent because at 6’2” he can really skate, shoot the puck, and think the game at a high level, plus he’s tough and the loves the physical aspect of the game at such a young age – and that’s unique. He’s actually the toughest kid I have ever coached – and that includes the college level.”

MacLeod, who also visited Michigan, is expected to receive an invite to the NTDP 40-man camp next March. If selected for the U17s, he could accelerate and join BU’s 2014 class.

Another KUA blueliner, 6’5”, 220 lb. junior Doyle Somerby will visit BU this week. He already has offers from Maine, UNH, UMass, and St. Lawrence. A ’94 birthdate, he was ranked #127 in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm rankings—four spots ahead of Brendan Collier.

2013 recruit Sam Kurker, ranked #41 by NHL Central Scouting, burned Catholic Memorial--the alma mater of his three future coaches at BU--with a hattrick in a 5-1 St. John's Prep win.

Somerby has committed to BU.

Somerby, from Marblehead, Mass., is in his second season at Kimball Union and also plays for the New England Nordiques. His KUA coach, Mike Levine says "he is a good skater who has good stick skill and has a great understanding of the game." The day Somerby committed he tweeted “best day of my life.”

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

2013 recruit Kevin Duane (3G-1a) led Brunswick over Portledge 8-2. 6'5" wing has 16g-13a on the season. With Duane, 6'2"Kurker and 6'5" Somerby, BU will have good size in 2013 along with O'Regan, Collier and Baillargeon.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

After putting up 46 points during 4 1/2 months in the BCHL, 2012 recruit Mike Moran returned to Massachusetts and is skating for the Baystate Breakers. Details.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

With possible departures of Clendening and Nicastro, is it likely Grzelcyk may join BU next fall?

Given the uncertainty with undergrads who may leave, that's the kind of contingency coaches now build into their agreements with many recruits. Similarly, a recruit may be asked to spend an extra year in juniors.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Am surprised that Polsello isn't having a better season in the USHL as he was supposed to be the next Gerbe/Gionta type. A 9g, 12a, 21 pts, + 6 line in 36 games isn't bad, but as a comparison, BC recruit and first year USHL player Austin Cangelosi has a 19g, 22a, 41 pts, +19 line in 4 fewer games (32) and he's a few months younger than Polsello. Baillargeon, who's an older 93 DOB player has a 12g, 24a, 36 pts, -1 line in 36 games. BC has some other great 2013 recruits in Collier's MC teammate Ryan Fitzgerald and Evan Richardson who is really tearing it up in his rookie season in the BCHL. Looks like both schools have some really good talent in the pipeline.

Re: BU Recruiting Update, Part 3

Polesello hasn't put up the numbers that were expected, having been a bit snakebitten in that category, but has played well enough to have earned a spot in the USHL Top Prospects game. BU's two BCHL forwards were having breakout seasons with Victoria (Myron 17-25-42 in just 27 games; Moran 18-28-46 in 39) until their time in the BCHL ended--Myron due to injury and Moran traded in the Grizzlies fire sale. BU's BCHL goalie, Maguire, had a lights out January: 7-0 record with a 1.39 GAA and a .947 Sv %.”
