BU Off-Season: Forward to the Past

Kotkansalo will forego his senior year and stay in Finland due to Covid concerns.

Kasper's decision leaves BU with just 6 Ds for next season. I'd imagine they'll ask Braden Doyle to come in next month. He had originally been a 2020 and had already signed an NLI. 6th round pick by the Kings last year. Top-scoring D on Dubuque last year, 3rd team all USHL.

with everything topsy turvy (first time ever usage!!), would it be wise or not to wait until coming in 2nd semester IF needed. this all assumes there will be a season after all.
are we looking at practice only for 1st semester? mookie will guess first positive test shuts a program down for a week.

(until after election day of course - wink wink )

The Big 10 is about to cancel their football season. I expect all collegiate fall sports to shut down. Hockey in January? Maybe.

BU announces 8-man incoming group for 2020-21. Six freshmen. Two transfers—Jay O’Brien (Providence via BCHL Penticton) and graduate transfer forward Max Kaufman from UVM. In 2018-19, Kaufman led Vermont in scoring 8-13-21. tinyurl.com/y43jl3vv

Thanks, Mookie. Great memories of his final game sitting in a section of BU fans. :D :p

Thanks to those BU fans who participated in last weekend’s 16[SUP]th[/SUP] annual BU Hockey Summer Roundtable, conducted virtually on BU’s Zoom. Coach O’Connell discussed the state of the program and the upcoming season and took questions, along with captain Logan Cockerill and AAD Brian Kelley. Boston Hockey Blog recapped the gathering. And check out a great podcast interview with David Quinn. tinyurl.com/yxq8dyjd

How did I miss this????

Legendary BU Coach Jack Kelley died yesterday at age 93, just five months after his wife, Ginny, passed away. Ironically, several members of Kelley’s national title squads will be gathering today for the Fifth Annual BU Hockey Elders and Friends Golf Outing, organized by Steve Dolloff and Peter Yetten. The Jack Kelley stories certainly will be flowing today.

If you have a Jack Kelley memory or experience you'd like to share, please add it in the comments section of the post on The Terrier Hockey Fan Blog.

Check out the NHL Coaches Association’s “Coaches Confidential” video discussion featuring Penguins coach Mike Sullivan and NYR coach David Quinn along with Detroit's Jeff Blashill, who played for and coached at Western Michigan. Links to the video, recruit news and Kevin Dupont's take on Jack Kelley's pasing all at TFHB. http://tinyurl.com/yysbff9p

Jake Oettinger, whose appearance in game 3, was the first-ever by a Terrier goalie in the Cup finals, is writing a playoff blog about his experiences and life in the bubble for NHL.com. He also blogged for NHL.com throughout his draft season, 2016-17, which was his freshman year. tinyurl.com/yyhj43xs

Seven Terriers named to the 39-man US Jr. National Team evaluation camp roster. Returnees Mastrosimone, Fensore, McCarthy and Vlasic. Freshmen Commesso, Peterson and Tuch. tinyurl.com/y36o9ktd

For the first time since 2014, no Terrier is taken in the first round, but two go early in the second round. Commesso, to Chicago at #46, is the 2nd goalie off the board. Tuch goes one pick later to Montreal. Had been ranked #40 among N.Americans by Central Scouting. tinyurl.com/y5z73sxb

this shlaine dude.... why did he switch to uconn? another admissions deal??

Could be, but I got the impression it was because Shlaine wanted to matriculate this fall, and BU either didn't want / need him that soon (read: no spot). Plus UConn has the reputation of recruiting a lot of Russians, so perhaps there's a comfort factor there.

From what I heard scholarship $ issues and wanted PP time. Didn't want to do year of juniors. IMO sounds like a pain in the butt. Was going to switch to BC but Uconn came in last minute.
