BU @ Maine 1/28-29: Weekend at TIMMAY's

Re: BU @ Maine 1/28-29: Weekend at TIMMAY's

Pat's in Orono is the best pizza parlor I think I've ever been to. You could go to one of the last three Howard Johnson restaurants in the country but I didn't think the food was that good.

I have not been to the Pat's in Orono (I think this was the original?), I have been to the Yarmouth and Sunday River locations though... fantasitic Pizza IMO. Kind of like simple, but awesome!

Re: BU @ Maine 1/28-29: Weekend at TIMMAY's

Might as well get this started. I'll be heading up for the weekend. Second visit to Alfond, but first time spending more than a few hours in the Orono/Bangor area. Anyone got some suggestions for places to eat and things to do on Saturday?
Bring your cross country skis or hiking boots and drive down to Mount Desert for a hike or ski in Acadia. If it's a clear day, you'll enjoy the views! If you're into working out, they've got a pretty amazing fitness center on campus that allows some outsiders to pay to get in, not sure if that includes your "ilk." :p

It'd have to be pretty amazing to compete with the FitRec.

I lived off Pats Pizzas way back. With a draft down stairs you couldnt beat it. Dont know how many times we had it delivered to the dorms....yum. Ordering spaghetti at Pats has got to blashemous though.

I'm not familiar with FitRec. so can't make a valid comparison (and don't know what purpose it would serve if I could), but I suspect that it has one major flaw that makes it vastly inferior for the purposes of this thread, it's located about 250 miles too far away from where these guys will be on Saturday.

We used to stop in on our way home from high school. Agreed on the blasphemy thing, I thought he was talking about a spaghetti pizza, which didn't sound so good.

I liked Pat's. Goooooood pizza. Will need to see if that's on the itinerary for this trip. What's the forecast up there? Looks like travel there on Friday should be fine. What about the rest of the time there?

Pizza or why bother going to Pats, double dough, double cheese, double Hamburg, Double Pep, you'll swear the Exxon Valdez crashed on top of your pizza. Grab a 1inch thick wad of napkins and lay it on the top of the pizza. You wring that out and you could heat your house for a day.

Re: BU @ Maine 1/28-29: Weekend at TIMMAY's

I had the good fortune to get to several BU-Maine games at Alfond when I lived in Maine, fond memories. It's going to take a real effort but I think I have to get back there in the next few years for a game.

Anyhoo, Maine sucks, they cheat, the players are all 27 years old and the girls are uglier than a moose with mange:D::p

That ought to get us out of the Zagats portion of the prologue.;)

Four college students. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far.

FL....if you take a day trip into Bangor you can hit up the Hollywood Slots for a bit and then head over to the Seadog Brewing Co.for lunch. Makes a nice break from drinking cheap NH booze all day back at the room in the Black Bear Inn.......I should know! :p

Re: BU @ Maine 1/28-29: Weekend at TIMMAY's

Breakfast: Johnny's (old town)

Lunch: Verve (orono)

Dinner: Margaritas (orono)

Drinks: Woodman's

You won't be sorry. Unless you don't like Mexican, then go to Woodmans instead of Margs for dinner.

generally speaking, the food at margaritas is terrible.

Have you tried the fish tacos? Yum!

To each his own, I guess. I really prefer Margaritas and hate Pepino's while some of my friends have opposite tastes. Of course, they are wrong. :D

it's been my experience that none of the Pat's other franchises have pizza nearly as good as the original in Orono. But then again, I haven't eaten at any other location than Orono in years, so maybe that's changed. After all, old Pat isn't around anymore to add his secret ingredient in to the sauce as he stirred(ashes from his cigar)

It's the original pans from when they first opened, decades of caked on grease.

You would be correct. No other than the original Pats is great...the other Pats are imitations, but not good enuf.

Rules numbered 1, 2 and 3 young Stevie:

1) Never eat food at a place named after a drink.
2) Never eat any food at a restaurant other than their claim to fame...i.e. dont order a hamburger in an italian restaurant...duh
3) Never break rules 1 and 2.

You would be surprised how many people I've run into complaining about food at some joint because they've gone outside of their expertise and found out they shouldnt be cooking it. Order fish only in a fish house, pasta dishes in an italian joint, greek food in a greek restaurant, steaks in a steakhouse, and yes, hamburgers at McDonalds (yeach)

Pepino's rocks...at least it usta.....have their own green sauce for sale. Great for starting a woodfire, warming up da belly and giving the dos equis something to wash down. :D

Far as the game goes, Jackie sucks, BU sucks, and BC sucks. :)
