BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

Some silver linings here:
- BU is clearly on the right track and well ahead of the other team on Comm Ave. for a variety of reasons.
- The better team won tonight without any true contraversy affecting the outcome. It was a clean death.
- Jerry York used to say you have to keep knocking on the door and making the FF and that was the real recipe for success to winning titles. BU is doing that and will get one soon I think.
- Enjoy your Beanpot

An older, physically stronger team. Never gave BU a second and seemed to win almost every loose puck. Tremendous skill on BU but they got swarmed.

- Eiserman leaving would be a mistake, and I would be surprised if he does. Yes, his 200 ft game has improved significantly, but it's not like he's a great defensive forward. I also think he has some maturing to do. Case in point: after C. Hutson does 90% of the work on the goal against Penn State, Eiserman doesn't turn to his set-up man for his celebration - he skates away from him and does the superman celly. I may be old fashioned but that rubs me the wrong way and shows he has some maturing to do. Less "me", more "team".
The "maturing" is exactly the reason Eiserman why I think he will leave but hopefully he will get good advice because I think he is a huge difference maker in winning the big games. (BC Beanpot breakaway goal, UMASS OT winner, Ohio State game tier and put away goals, PSU game winner.
Honestly I don’t mind losing to them. They’re the better team. They’ve had a tremendous season. Good for them.

Saw on Twitter Quinn Hutson is signing with Edmonton as soon as this game is over. Seems like he’s already got one skate out the door. Been kind of invisible tonight.
yea bad look to be making arrangements to play in his first nhl game tomorrow but it’s how business is done

Happy with the progress the program has made but they just need more speed up and down the roster. Had they played Denver instead it would have been the same thing. Unlike 10 years ago where they gave away a title they lost to a better team this time because they couldn't skate with them.

Quinn came in as an undrafted freshman in a package deal to get Macklin. The BU coaches developed him into a player attractive to and worthy of an NHL chance. That’s what BU does. And that’s why it’s one of the sought after colleges for highly talented players.

Quinn played like he was ready to leave tonight, didn’t want to risk getting hurt, and I think that’s a disappointment. I would have expected better from him.

We lost to a better, more impassioned team but we will reload and be back again next year. All in all, it was a good if frustrating season.

Play poorly and bad things happen 🤷🏾

Only man to acknowledge the crowd was Shane. Everyone else headed for the tunnel.
Chewy did make his way around to console the sad boys. Nice touch.

Ugly night.

Things really stood out with the passing (or lack thereof) to escape the zone. Soft pussy pushes that continually got picked off and created chances for them. Seen it all year with the backwards shit. Almost like wmu scouted them 😜
When you watch an nhl game and notice how crisp the movement is, then this squad….well you can imagine gms will look and question if these guys are strong enough to help in the big leagues.
C’est la vie
Was peculiar to see tired legs too. Maybe Cole was spent and not able to push to get back on the 4th goal..he was taking a knee from the red line.
Kaplan was taking a breezer and not hustling to catch the extra bronco who scored the 3rd. The boy will get vilified by the Philly crowd if he continues to pull that shit wearing those gross orange sweaters 🫣
Either way, mookie has his hotel reserved for Vegas next year and we will see what happens.

Rover sounds like mookie here 😜. He pointed out to his brother all the banners who have their trophy thanks to the terriors…pc, northern, cc 😱

Oooops , not Macklin… Lane..🙄

Agree with all… except being ahead of the other team on comm ave. Tracks seem similar.

Tough to swallow getting this far and not getting it done. I thought the energy was there, just not crisp enough at times. I thought the D effort was there, but I would say Big Mike didn’t have his best night. On the offensive end we didn’t take advantage of the few open looks we had. Western did, and that’s the story.

I’m still always amazed how the entire crowd is for the other team, whoever it is against us in this stage. I even seemed that way in Boston in 2015. I wish we could get a bigger fan presence at this tournament.

Great season, but it always leaves a bad taste in your mouth. We will have great team again next year, but it’s hard, no matter what kind of team you have to make it into this game. Go BU!

A few more random notes:
- Wasn’t sure if the PA announcer was the Blues’ announcer or some NCAA flack but it bothered me how he kept saying Boston Terriers and no one corrected him
- The two in-house announcers were annoying.
- I hated how the Jumbotron showed replays while live play was going on.
- I have to say, I thought the WMU fans/student section were great. Cheering for their team, not against who they were playing.

I’m sure I’ll have more later. Need to get to sleep. Early flight in the morning.

Not wearing the scarlet Jack Garrity’s was a mistake.

Ryan Greene not scoring the past two months is a problem.

Eiserman leaving would be a poor choice.

Shane’s skating is not NHL level.

The better team won.

Well, that sucked. As a fan of the dogs across the Fenway, I can't say I'm unhappy but disappointed perhaps. Moreover, as a Hockey East fan I was clearly rooting for BU over the program that eliminated my Huskies in the 1st round a few years ago on a questionable goal in OT. The bright side is the team is obviously headed in the right direction under Pandolfo. The Western Michigan team was the best in college hockey all season and was the better team in every aspect and deserved this win. I expect major departures next week, but you guys will reload quickly. My concerns always when playing these NCHC teams is that at these schools hockey is religion as opposed to an accoutrement to education. As a result, Hockey East generally just can produce a fan base for these far away events and that showed in the crowd tonight. Enjoy the off season. Rest easy as I'm sure the sons of former NHL blue liners are lining up somewhere this week trying to find a way to get to Comm Ave.

Frustrating but fun season! Always awesome to get the Beanpot and the NCAA run was a treat not many of us expected at the halfway mark. Just figure out the dang Friday night nonsense please!

Defkit’s point on the blog that in a historically strong Hockey East year we advanced farther than anyone else also made me feel much better.

Anyone have a read on the out of conference schedule for next year yet?

The future of our program is bright. Heck of a run we’re on. Onward to Vegas!

Also tipping the helmet from the other side of the Fenway for being one of the last two standing--a notable accomplishment in itself.

WRT fan followings, let's remember that Boston, (and most of New England) is first and foremost a pro sports area. College sports also has its following but is fragmented among the Beanpot schools (and don't forget Bentley). Beyond that, there's UMass and UConn claiming a slice of that pie while QPac, Holy Cross, UML, MMack, and others are also at the table. Result is that eastern teams, with the possible exception of Maine, just can't produce massive traveling fan bases that would rival the mid-west state schools where hockey is a religion and, more often than not, the only show in town.

Regarding the fan base/travel discussion. I know in theory we're all rich due to your Boston University diploma's 🙃 but airfare runs $600-$700 dollars. The tickets are what? $250? The hotel, food, etc. Going to the Frozen Four could cost you $2k per person. It's a factor. Oh, and Western was a 5.5 hour car ride.

BU Hockey: Waiting for the Goodbyes...
