BU Hockey '24-'25: Reloaded for another Frozen Four run

It's game day! (Woot!). I'm looking forward to being back in Section 113 tonight. Key questions:

- Will the team be the mess defensively they were last year to start the season?
- Is Caron confident and ready to be the goalie he was in the second half?
- Will Eiserman play a 200 foot game?
- Will this be the only game (until the BC game) with a full student section?
- What will it be like to hear/understand the between period interviews?
- Does Cole Hutson play like his brother? #Juke
- Will there be any new food choices?

I missed the women's home opener Tuesday, but did attend their exhibition game and the sound system was excellent. The refs were also miked for the game, so you heard every penalty called.

Only a few minutes away from first puck drop - excited that hockey is back! Looking forward to the journey this year. GO BU!

I haven't been impressed with Kaplan in more than a year and nothing has changed after tonight. I was pretty disappointed that he was voted an alternate captain. He takes way too many major penalties to be a leader of this team. I hope his "leadership" doesn't wear off on Eiserman.

- Will this be the only game (until the BC game) with a full student section? Likely not
- What will it be like to hear/understand the between period interviews? OK on ESPN+
- Does Cole Hutson play like his brother? #Juke YES!!
- Will there be any new food choices? Swedish meatball from Ikea?

BU Hockey: Nothing But Promise

Excellent insights from defkit in his Terrier Takeaway on the blog, especially about Hutson.

Key takeaways from night one:

- Excellent crowd! Great atmosphere! Love to see it
- Fix the penalty clock font/colors on the new scoreboard! #Unreadable #GraphicDesignFail
- Love the new corner scoreboards (But they should include the penalty clock.)
- They took away the only healthy food option! - #NoMoreWraps
- Not sure on Eiserman's 200 foot game because they threw him out 1/2 way through the game. (I watched the entire scrum and didn't see anything. Does video exist of his apparent transgression? A transgression that took the ref's 7 minutes to find? )
- The second period is everything that's wrong with sports today. (Three long reviews to circumcise a mosquito.)
- Yeah to improved sound!
- Cole's magic is his smooth skating and the spin-o-rama! He's going to be fun to watch for two seasons
- Caron looks super confident and locked in.
- Ryan Green is going to battle Eiserman for the team scoring title

New video board and mookie still can’t read the time left on a penalty
all that wasted room could be put to better use, please :D

Agree on this. Penalty time is basically white on white.

Does anyone find it strange that the clock & score are rotated to face the corners of the rink instead of sides and ends?

We sit down low and the sound wasn't great. They need to crank the volume in goal and penalty announcements.

Nice first game. I hope the ejections are just an early season warning of sorts. Any idea if they were really tight with other games around the league?

A big IF but if BU has essentially replaced Macklin and Lane with the 2 Cole’s then who are they going miss most from LY. Personally I know he didn’t leave gracefully but Wilmer can be a difference maker. Was #3 in scoring for the team most of the year.

I sat down low for the women's game Tuesday and the audio levels were really bad. Saturday, sitting mid-way up it was significantly better. Seems like they're working out some wrinkles.

And that penalty clock absolutely needs to be fixed. Not sure how that got signed off as is.

Would love to see Ryan Greene really up his game this season. He's off to a good start!

Which Cole???? :)

And I concur with smyler3 about the time not being centered but rather facing the corners. I know that panel is 360 around but my eye goes to the center of the board to find the time and it's not there. Also, the font is too small for it.

I'll defer to everyone else about the sound. My seat is in the last row so I thought it sounded fine. The comments about it not being good down by ice level is interesting. What are you hearing? Or not hearing?

Would love to see Ryan Greene really up his game this season. He's off to a good start!

►USCHO: “Greene has a knack for getting the Agganis Arena crowd going in its first games of the season, having now scored five goals in his three BU home openers. He and his linemates Shane Lachance and Quinn Hutson combined for a plus-9 rating Saturday.”

#3 in both polls. Webber contract extension, large SNL and more in the blog.

A few cool stories in the land of BU hockey alums in the NHL
- Charlie McAvoy has already scored two goals!
- Macklin's first NHL goal
- The entire team in attendance at the Boston Garden yesterday to see Lane play the Bruins.
