Unfortunately, that's never been the case for me...Probably because of the bigger than normal crowds when BU comes to town. The UMass fandom seems to spill over into the visitors tickets area and more often than not, it gets pretty ugly.
UMass is the only place I won't wear a jersey because of the pure abuse you get walking around the concourse, going to the bathroom, sitting in your seat while the game is going on...It doesn't matter. You can't escape it.
I can wear my jersey to bc and not even get that much hastle...At least there, it's usually not malicious and they let you go about your business with the right amount of abuse (because let's face it, if you're going to parade around in the jersey of the visiting team, you have to know you're going to get some abuse)
Every experience I've had at UMass has been miserable...By far my least favorite place to go in Hockey East just for the fact that it's almost impossible to watch the game without getting popcorn thrown on you or getting yelled at by a group of drunk kids that show up halfway through the 2nd period with UMass up 3-0.
But the game isn't on TV...So I'm going to go...Guess you gotta suck it up and take it for what it is, right?

I’m surprised to hear that it’s that bad even in the reserved sections, like Sec J. My season tickets are over on that side and I end up sitting in the GA seating because the snoring of everyone around me was interfering with my enjoyment of the game. Sorry to hear that though. I keep hoping that our students wise up one of these years.

Not at all. I think BU's definitely rated too high. Just poking some fun at all the UMass fans who chanted "Overrated" last year only to have BU storm back with six unanswered goals. Wondering if maybe they learned a lesson from that.

I know, i was there late yesterday afternoon and they told me they'd sent them back. that's how we usually prefer to do it but they were closed monday..oh well, onto ticketraper.

Considering that they poked fun at themselves by chanting it the next night when UMass got creamed Agganis, I would say that some of them did.

Is it a bad thing that I like the crowd at Lake Whitt now better than the one at Lake ZooMass?

Don't get me wrong, I hope nothing happens to you (plural), but you (plural) do realize if the crowd at the Mullins Center is this bad you don't have to come, right?

Some (few) like the atmosphere, some are indifferent to the atmosphere, and some dislike the atmosphere. For some of those who dislike the atmosphere it is still not worth missing watching their team play, they just wish they didn't have to put up with it.

We're all adults, and can obviously handle the garbage that visiting fans get when they go to Mullins Center. Unpleasantness doesn't stop fanatics from going to watch their team on the road, especially when the road game is so accessible.
The one thing that surprises me, though, is the fact that these boards are very closely monitored by athletic departments and coaching staffs throughout college hockey, and the in-game environment at Mullins Center hasn't improved a bit. Oh well.
I work in hockey, and it's our opening weekend this weekend so I'll miss the game but I hope everyone has a great time!
