BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

OMG that's right!! I remember going to the GSU to watch the game. The University arranged to have it live streamed (or whatever one might call it back in 1990). I wish they would do the same this weekend.

I was there too. I think Game 3 was shown in the Case Gym. Good times.

Had Providence beaten UMass at home in the quarterfinals, or Colorado College gotten something out of one of their losses, the Minutemen would have been out and BU would be in Springfield. But a team that didn't earn home ice for the Hockey East tournament has home ice for the NCAA regional. Something is wrong with that picture. If the NCAA is really so concerned about attendance it would never have selected St. Louis as a host sight.

If they cared about attendance, they also wouldn't have games at 2PM during a work / school day.

I have a different perspective

Do you think BU has a tougher bracket in Springfield or Sioux Falls ?

I think getting to the FF is tougher in Springfield if you had to deal with Maine or Cornell and Denver than RIT, Minnesota/Omaha OR it doesn't matter ??

Tough call - I think BC has the "easiest" bracket (as they should being the #1 overall seed - and made "easier" by virtue of Michigan Tech getting in) - other than that I think it is pick your poison.

Obviously disappointed that we lost the game, but I'm not changing my outlook on the potential this team has. The scenario reminds me of when we lost to that powerhouse Maine team in the '93 HE Championship game. I think we lost 5-2 or something, to a team with tremendous talent everywhere, a team that went on to win it all. That BU team was still one of the best in the country and made it to the FF. BC is a wagon and should win the NCAA title unless something goes wrong. If BU can get to MSP, I will consider this a successful season.

Agree -anytime you get to the Frozen 4 it is a successful season - and don't count this team out. Agree BC has to be favored to win it all, but if we get another shot at them it is far from a foregone conclusion that BC wins. Im sure the players would like another shot at them too.

Well thats not good to hear and cant claim thats a good fan or person. Theres rot in every group, the few dont define the whole.

No, and I don’t think it defines the whole. But I rarely encounter stuff like that and was really disappointed by it. I lived up in Bangor for about 6 months too and never noticed that kind of stuff, so I agree it was a one-off.

RIT With and older heavier team with a good goalie could be a serious challenge and we better get on themearly. The other team that is hot is Omaha and this is nearly a home game.

Personally, I think the toughest bracket is Maryland Heights (St. Louis) with North Dakota, Michigan, and even Western Michigan could be a sneaky sleeper.

But none of that matters. We have to beat whatever team shows up to play on any given day, and that could include BC. We start with RIT and go from there.

I agree that BC is a war wagon this year, but we all would like another shot at them - who wouldn't?

Which they did - and got away with it. They made the same “mistake” tonight, and paid the price. Just like puck luck, these calls tend to even out over the long season.

Let’s hope the teams can meet in the Beanpot finals. The final score will be 4-3.

Was going thru this thread to find a post and saw this. Ryecheers - great job!!! :)

Games tomorrow, so let's talk some hockey.

- Harvey was kind of invisible last weekend. He had a couple of looks, but missed the net badly. We need to see some Celebrini/Harvey synergy tomorrow evening
- Shane's gotta shoot more
- Hughes has gotta work on his aim (or just pass more. He too had a rough two days at the Garden. I get why NU fans didn't shed a tear when he left.)
- Quinn needs to slow down down his game a bit. He rushes his process in big games (See Beanpot Final wrap around that should have been a goal.)
- Is Zabs okay? Seemed to tweak his knee Saturday night. We need his speed and grit
- Stevens and Peterson need to continue to get to the dirty areas and use their competitiveness and muscle to get a dirty goal (or two)
- Stay out of the box Luke Tuch. I'm begging you.
- Where did the Wilmer Wizardry go? Need more of that
- I love "Lane Hutson things" but he's trying to do too much. Breath Lane.
- Caron needs to just not have to face the BC powerplay 5 times :)

BU Hockey: Capable of Big Things

I can't comment on any of that Bomber (other than I agreed Harvey was kind of invisible - where was the magic with Macklin, who was also kind of invisible on Saturday). I have no idea what to expect. I did see this posted over on the Maine thread, though:

So, an interesting piece of trivia, since the Holy Cross upset over the Gophers in 2006, every NCAA tournament has seen at least one #4 seed defeat a #1, except for 2022. Who will be the #1 to fall this year?

And now my anxiety has started to rise. I had planned to quote my post from back in January from right after the game at BC about how that was the second game this season in a tough road environment where they didn't rise to the occasion (Cornell at MSG being the first). At both the Beanpot and Hockey East, they were able to win the first game but not come through in the championship, where there was something on the line. I'm hoping that trend doesn't continue.

Every year since 2006 (except 2022) at least one of the 1 seeds in a regional has lost to the 4 seed?

RIT is #23 in Pairwise with shutout wins over Clarkson and Notre Dame, but they're 56th in strength of schedule, while BU remains #1. Still expecting a strong challenge from them. Tigers have a very good goalie. Hoping BU tuned up the power play this week because RIT takes a lot of penalties. On IBUH, Pandolfo said everyone is available to play although a few didn't practice Monday. Webber?.

Lots of info on RIT on the blog today along with IBUH & BHB/THT podcasts.

I think the game against RIT will be similar to playing a good Merrimack team (like last year). It probably will not be a fun game to play.

Kareem Ramadan, ya'll. He really does say Quran instead of "kuh-rhon" At least the guys in the studio were getting it right.
