BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

Caron had to be Superman again due to some really bad decision making. I’m not sure what Lane Hutson was thinking taking the puck when pressured right out in front of your goaltender. Use the net when pressured there. If Caron wasn’t on top of his game, , that would have been another high scoring shootout in all likelihood.

Offensively, I am thankful the puck went in the net again for us. Hopefully the stretch is over where it wasn’t. While I like M. Celebrini scoring lots of goals, I really like it when others have great nights - that will probably determine how far we go. Need 1 or 2 forwards every night to be the hot ones. Lane Hutson is not breaking free as much as he was able to last year, and it’s showing on how often he coughs up the puck. He is still great and will get his share of points. If he gets free he should shoot early rather than later. it just seems different from last year.

Harvey looks really good, at least offensively. He has great instincts to get free for a pass and anticipation to get some steals. I haven’t really focused on him defensively in our own zone, but he can clearly take the puck from you and go. He’s been stoned a few times on breakaways and rang some iron but I’m sure he’ll start putting some in.

Monday should be interesting. Hoping Fowler is just average, otherwise it will take a special effort. I just found out he grew up playing until he was 12 or so in the rink I play in here in Florida. I kind of suspected it since he is from Melbourne, FL.

Time to win some hardware!

An overall good win to get back into a positive mindset. And we are still #3 in the PWR.

- Good to see both Jacks have good games. Harvey certainly seemed like he was at another level, though for the second game in a row, he failed to score on a breakaway.
- Not a smart penalty by Hughes late in the game. I get that he wanted the Hat Trick, but that doesn't give you license to just keep backing all the way into the goalie. I'm sure Caron and Pandolfo were pretty perturbed by that one.
- We need to shake up the PP. When Lane is just playing catch with Macklin and Quinn, we are killing our own PP. If four passes later you are in the exact situation you were 15 seconds ago, what have you accomplished? And I agree that goalies are ready for the Macklin one-timer.
- Lane and Macklin both had terrible giveaways that Caron bailed the team out on. I've been saying since last years playoffs that teams are going to learn how to defend Lane's jukes. He needs to start moving into keeping it simple mode, at least in our own end. Save the juking for the offensive zone and power plays.
Absolutely this is true I think he lulls his own team to sleep out there a lot of wasted time skating in circles and when he coughs it up at the blue line there is no one there to cover. H

Not playing Harvey has been the biggest coaching mistake imo and have mentioned it in the past . He is super skilled and young I get it but let him learn in game conditions he would be further ahead right now.
This has been an issue brought up here previously. Harvey was a 2nd Team USHL All-Star last year so it was surprising that he didn’t get on the ice much during the first semester. Looks like he’s playing like he belongs now and hopefully he’ll start converting on some of these breakaways.

Have to disagree. He looked out of place in most of the games that I saw him in. Similar to Braden Doyle - seemed like the jump to D-1 was too much, at least for now. So they have mostly let him adjust to things in practice while getting bigger and stronger) and it appears to me that the strategy has paid off (granted it was just one game). In the days where the Pairwise means every game is important, you can't afford to have a guy in the line-up that is going to hurt your chances of winning.

Fair point. Trust in the coaches. I sure like the way he looks now. Does everyone realize this guy is 20 and turns 21 on 3/31?

Here's the question re: Harvey in the lineup - once Kaplan comes back, who sits? The lines from Friday:

Hughes-Macklin-Harvey
Tuch-Greene-Hutson
Wilmer-Zabaneh-Peterson
Lachance-Stevens-Grimes

Other than Harvey, the only one there you can consider not dressing is Grimes.

I doubt Jay goes the route of dressing a 13th F instead of a 7th D.

Grimes is a no brainer I don’t get him at all especially since you have big bodies in Lachance and Stevens. Quite honestly I don’t love Kaplan or Zabaneh much I think they are net negative on many nights. Harvey needs to be play with skilled top liners you could move Kaplan down to 4 and send Grimes to the press box

Hopefully the team has talked about hitting the net more. BU has a bunch of forwards who are not only not producing, they’re also breaking the other team out of the zone for scoring chances

Nick sniped two goals on Friday night. He also turned it on late last season. He's the fastest skater on the team (And might just be the fastest skater in Hockey East) - Let's not throw him in the trash heap right now.

BU Hockey: HIT THE NET!

Although we almost coughed up a 3 goal lead with 12 minutes to go, that game restores my faith in what this team can accomplish. That was a tournament game on neutral ice where we got the best of a top tier team with an excellent goaltender. I think the difference was getting the lead after we jumped on them early for the 3rd straight game. We were opportunistic in the second and third which was required since we didn’t generate many shots. We didn’t look great defensively most of the 3rd until the last minute- which is ultimately the most important time. BC has some guns and moves the puck quickly and accurately in the offensive zone. They are a handful. M. Celebrini was a difference maker - and what do you know - he scored on that one timer from the circle! It was a perfect shot - no chance for Fowler (and probably any NHL goalie as well). Great night for Tuch as well.

I enjoyed watching it - now I wish I had chosen to go to this game instead of last weekend! On to our 56th Final! (That a 0.789 first round winning % - one of the more incredible stats about BU hockey!)

Does anyone know what sections at the Garden were BU fans and what sections were Northeastern? I’m buying tickets to bring my daughter and I don’t want to end up in completely hostile territory
