BU '23-'24 Season: Pandomania

Wasn't that the series when there was fight during opening warmups? And also when the North Dakota goalie got a penalty and had to actually sit in the penalty box?

It may have been. I wouldn't rule it out. I remember that at least one of the games had a lot of penalties.

The last time North Dakota beat BU in Boston was March 16, 1990, in the first of a best of three NCAA hockey match up. Former UND head coach Dave Hakstol, and current UND assistant coach Dane Jackson, were freshmen on that team.

The first NCAA tournament game I ever saw. Very exciting series. Tony Amonte, Shawn McEachern, Dave Tomlinson, Joe Sacco. (and Mike Sullivan too!) I wish they would bring first and second round games back to campus sites. Great atmosphere! Great memories!

Caught a good amount of this game. Pretty good game, UND is good but don't have the finishers of years past. Seems like everything is an adventure for Caron when a shot comes in. Another good win for Hockey East.

Moving Friday night starts from 7:30pm back to 7pm was a mistake. Not sold out but crowd filled in nicely near the end of the 1st.

Agreed. We've seen the late-arriving crowds the past 2 Friday nights. Friday late-afternoon/early-evening Boston traffic has worsened again compared to 1-2 years ago.

I'm relieved there are only 3 more Friday home games. There's the Tuesday night home game vs. Northeastern in January, and I recall the weeknight home game vs. UMASS last January was a mess to commute to even though there was nothing weather-related impacting traffic.

That was a fun night of hockey. Two highend teams duking it out. BU played a solid 200 foot game. Caron is settling in but his rebound control is an adventure. Dylan Peterson was a man processed and that shot block off his boot in the 3rd was a give him all the paw stickers moment.

While I was floored by how many ND fans were in the house, I loved seeing it. It illustrates what a big deal matchup this is. But where were all the BU fans? This game should have been sold out. BC had a sellout against Denver. Perhaps tonight’s the night it’s completely banged out.

And finally, two thumbs up for wearing the Bob jerseys. (Doesn’t Bernie name these after some old time BU player from the 50’s named Bob?). Will they wear them again tonight?

BU Hockey: Big Win Hunting

This was a really nice win. We took it to them in the first, but North Dakota really turned it on in the final 2 periods. A good power play on the night and a strong Caron effort got us the win (he does need to control the puck better after it hits him and stays close to his body). I think we’ll need more tonight to get a second win. When 1 on 1 with the goalie and when there are open nets, we need to put it in a little more.

Did you notice North Dakota’s defenseman always go down and lay out in tight to take away passes across the middle? Need to anticipate that and take advantage.

Traffic is definitely an issue across the board (of course on weekdays it is harder to leave earlier if one is in work or school).

Speaking from my experience coming in from the north shore, we pretty much have to plan to leave 2 hours before puck drop if we want to be sure we are in our seats in time - and it’s only 37 miles from my door to Agganis. Not so long ago the drive was routinely 50-55 min. Now it’s not uncommon for it to be 1:20 - 1:40. Terrible.

there are times where our question is not “what time do we need to leave?”, but rather “do we want to bother going and dealing with the traffic at all?”.

Great game last night. Echoing what has been said, we really outplayed them in the first, then they turned it on after that when it was much more back-and-forth. I admit, I have some concerns about our goaltender situation.

on a separate note, the chicken Parm sub is really quite tasty and has become my go to in game meal.

Not sure why North Dakota traveled with two different jerseys.

that hit on Macklin was horrific. And laughing that North Dakota called for a review of BU’s goal for offsides and it was called back. Well played.

It’s a shame the game had to end like that. I don’t even think the guy got a shot off. Just kind of ping ponged off of BU bodies. Lots of heart in BU for the comebacks.

Looked like Caron poke-checked it into a Terrier shinpad and it caromed in. Slick move to get in there but he didn’t even get a shot off it seemed.

We have a goalkeeper problem. Caron is being beaten high consistently. He's down too early much of the time. And very little rebound control - too many second and third chances. Maybe bring in Chambre for second semester?

We also struggle to get the puck out of the D-Zone. ND was able to pick off way too many breakouts and keep us running around on defense.

Caron does get beat high, but I think most of them are absolute lasers. Almost perfect shots at the bar. He definitely has a rebound and control problem.
