So, I’m not saying officiating was fully to blame for the loss. It was crap, completely, but this loss was because BU couldn’t finish on a bunch of opportunities. How. Ever. Give me a moment to adjust my tinfoil hat. I saw a post on Twitter that the lead referee last night night works for a company called Playfly Sports, whose longtime partner is the Denver Pioneers. And the company posted on its Facebook page wishing their longtime partner the Denver Pioneers luck in the game last night. At the very least, it’s a conflict of interest, isn’t it? How does this guy get one of the biggest games of the year? Nothing will come of it of course, but interesting to read.
Anyway, I remember during the regionals saying that BU should take a lot of time leading up to this weekend working on their penalty kill. Looks like they did that. I am very impressed that Denver didn’t capitalize on any of their power plays. I thought BU was done for after Peterson’s penalty at the end of regulation. Everything else, though, it was disappointing because they had the chance to make a statement in the first period and didn’t. I’ve seen various comments about Caron not being a big time goalie but he was great last night. The Denver goalie, while he made every stop he had to when BU was peppering him with shots, didn’t really have to make any out of this world saves. I felt like BU could not put together any sustaining pressure in the offensive zone. Plus Denver blocked more shots and passes last night than Cade Webber had all year, it seems.
Their research on BU was spot on because Macklin was not really a factor. Was that the first ga,e in how long that he didn’t have a point?
Onto next year, I suppose. A little birdie told me to expect Shane Lachance as next year’s captain. Thoughts?
