BU 23-24 Post-Season and Off-Season: Jacks and Coles

First off, congratulations to BU & fans. Both teams played hard, and I thought you paid the price blocking shots in the end to earn the victory. I think we'd love to have those 2 softies back, but that's the way it goes. As someone watching the game from an opponent's lens, Celebrini was impactful almost every shift he was out there. I think I was more impressed with his work in the corners and having a good stick and disrupting breakouts than I was with his rush play which is saying something because he's dynamite on the rush too. Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks. Glad you paid attention to Macklin's full game. It is why he is going to be the #1 pick. Yeah, he's great in the offensive zone, but he is also very strong in his own end and just keeps battling. It's why he is compared to Toews so much. He reminds me of Chris Drury, doesn't let his offensive skill lead to any slacking.

Isn’t Cole Hutson coming in 2025? That would require Lane & Quinn to stay 2 more years. But maybe I’ve got that wrong. I’m working off a tired memory.

Everything I have seen would indicate that Cole Hutson is coming this fall. Having his brother put up 48 points as a freshman defenseman playing a very similar style I'm sure gives the coaches plenty of comfort that Cole is ready for D-1.

I didn’t actually relax till the second empty net goal, but….wow!!!! Glad to see Case McCarthy get the first empty netter. Hard to believe a regional final like this and no penalties!

Booked my hotel yesterday and booked my flight before I left the watch party. Not sure if BC fans have pre booked but if they haven’t I wanted to make sure I got a flight before they did.

Too soon to think about Denver….need to absorb this and enjoy for now.

It really was a nice little game. No penalties, barely any icings or offsides. Two skilled and disciplined teams focusing on what matters most - the scoreboard. Reminded me of the games we have against Michigan and Michigan State recently.

Congrats again. Better team won.

Edited to get rid of the double post (I thought closing a bazillion threads was going to stop that).

I just watched video of all six of the goals. Two things - how did Close let Quinn’s goal in? And after watching multiple times, I still don’t know how Lane’s goal went in. I actually thought Stevens scored that.

Thanks - those teams were so evenly matched. This needs to be at least an every other year game on the schedule (regular season of course!). I would love to come and visit Mariucci!

I am pretty sure that Quinn was trying to send the puck into the high crease and it deflected off the defenseman's stick and came in on Close instead. He wasn't able to adjust his position and his pad knocked it in. I thought Lane's goal was worse on the part of the goalie, but there were a lot of sticks and skates in the vicinity so maybe he just had a hard time deciding how to play it and assumed that a stick was going to take a whack at it.

The “dream” matchup is still in play. For a while I thought the Q was really going to advance. That’s a pesky team.

After waiting prior to other big games for the Alumni Association to put together pre-game events, they finally get it together to arrange something, announce it, based on BU having the second game (which we should), and ESPN decides that BC-Michigan gets the nightcap. I’d be kind of annoyed if I was either BC or Michigan.

ETA - I swear when I registered the time was based on BU having the second game but I guess I misread it.

Two five time champs playing two nine time champs (although arguably Michigan has been a hot while before winning one). It's a blue bloods FF.

There’s been some weirdness in terms of the late game at the F4 the last two years. Two years ago, it was cuz ESPN2 only had the early game so DU-Michigan was early but last year made ZERO sense.

I don’t think you can argue w BC-Michigan being the late game this year.

The winner of this game goes to the championship game IMO. I'm not convinced Denver's defense will be able to handle much sustained pressure from either of these teams given how they looked in the Springfield regional games at times

Maybe you’re right but Denver makes up for it with almost 200 goals for

Denver would scare me but then again like a good team they can adjust and play the tight defense low scoring game if needed as they showed in their regional in Springfield over UMass & Cornell

BC was very fortunate. Q giving up the puck at the offensive blueline was brutal. Q's older/heavier team matches up better with BC. I'm still hoping we get another shot at BC. Go BU!

I suspect we are going to hear less about wanting to move regional games on campus. That will only enhance the chances of blue bloods advancing. Most coaches aren't gonna go for that. Attendance was good enough in this year's regionals. The way it worked out in Missouri it's a shame that building couldn't hold more people. There was no complete dumpster fire regional attendance wise this year. I am still a proponent of keeping the regionals as is. Just do more to improve them.

As for which game is first I really don't think it matters. Not with the day off in between. For FF it's simply based on TV/eyeballs. Michigan-BC is a "bigger" matchup than BU-DU.

Oh, I don't doubt that for a moment. I know that game times have been swapped at the Beanpot and at Hockey East. I just thought the NCAA tournament had a little more......OMG I was just about to type the word integrity. What the hell was I thinking???? Carry on.

Question for you all - has there always been a regional trophy? I noticed at the end of the games when they were taking pictures of the oversized ticket they would quickly push a championship trophy in the picture. I thought it was the NCAA championship. Now I heard it was a regional championship trophy. I just remember it's only been a few years they actually gave the players hats. Now there's a trophy?

I prefer the early game as the ice tends to get worse for the 2nd game. That won't be an issue for the championship game.

Yeah this is 100% "DU and BU represent smaller name recognition markets than BC and Michigan." On the off chance that someone scrolling listings might see 'oh BC and Mich...oh it's hockey...eh, I'll watch". It got them there for at least a bit.

And really, Michigan is the driving force of the four programs that are in. So if it was Michigan-BU and BC-Denver I bet Michigan-BU would be late game.

This reminds me of the 98' matchup when Michigan had their incredible freshmen class and BC took them to triple OT and the puck sneaked between the post and Clemmenson's skate.
