BU 23-24 Post-Season and Off-Season: Jacks and Coles

Macklin will go on to a great NHL career and BU will be fine.
It would have been tremendous to have him back, but now that he has signed with the Sharks, it will still not be a surprise if BU gets back to the Frozen Four in St. Louis.

Indeed. I doubt anyone really thought he would stay. Looking ahead though, I wonder if NIL deals may eventually make it more appealing for prospects like that to stay an extra year?

I think most guys want to burn the years off their entry level deal as quickly as possible so they can make the big money. Not sure NIL could ever compete with that.

Players from outside the US cannot benefit from NIL the same as those born in the US due to student VISA restrictions. They can only benefit from NIL via passive income, not direct income. Therefore, an NIL deal would almost certainly have had no effect on Macklin's decision.

But if they stay and join the NHL club when the NCAA season is over in March, does that burn off the first year of their entry level deal (ala Lane Hutson this past year)?

Players being from out of the country is an added twist for sure.

I think that only works for guys who are two or three years past when they were drafted. The sharks would have all the leverage with someone like Celebrini.

Nice if both Smith and Celebrini stayed another year but there is a lot of talent at both ends of Comm Ave. Another fun season coming up, only three months until we get started.

Yes it does. McAvoy comes to mind.

I think for young players , they must play a minimum of 10 games - found this about rookie year ELC s -

" An entry level contract is limited by term (dependent on the prospect’s age at the date they sign the contract) and compensation but includes a provision for prospects aged 18 and 19 (as long as they don’t turn 20 before December 31 in the year they sign their first contract) that allows teams to slide the contract one year into the future if the player does not skate in a minimum of 10 NHL games (NHL CBA Article 9.1D)." https://businessofhockey.wordpress....ract (shown,a post-Trade Deadline acquisition.

2024-2025 Team Captains announced:

C - Ryan Greene
C - Shane Lachance
A - Devin Kaplan

I heard back in Saint Paul that Shane was most likely going to be wearing a C. He becomes the first ever sophomore to do so.

Wanted to highlight an incoming freshman who had a great summer from his second straight Clark Cup win, a great showing at Sharks dev camp, and finally (shockingly) leading the entire World Junior Summer Showcase in points with 6 (2g-4a)...

Brandon Svoboda doesn't have the eye-popping stats, esp with his injury/Team USA absences during the season-but honestly, he probably never will. He's an ideal bottom 6 guy, big body, moves well, works hard, etc. No one had him being a strong contender for USA's world junior team but he certainly pushed his way into the picture after WJSS. Lots of prospect people and sharks fans thought he was taken way too high, so it was great to see the positive reviews.

Will be intriguing to see how he does against older guys in the NCAA.

Svoboda was certainly surprise of the U.S. team at WJSS. FloHockey's Chris Peters wrote:
Brandon Svoboda, C/W (SJS)
Size and speed made Svoboda stand out, but he also made enough plays to give him a chance to be on this roster. He’s got the big body, but his ability to win races and pressure defensemen is probably more important. Svoboda was one of USA's most productive players throughout the camp. He also scored against Canada and made a few nice plays in the middle of the ice and was able to get pucks to more dangerous areas. He’s a tough man to move off of it. He’s got a great chance to be a depth player for Team USA thanks to that speed, size and scoring touch. If he plays the first half at BU like he did in camp, I think he's on the team.

With BU needing to replace three centers (Celebrini, Zabaneh and Stevens), he should find a spot on the bottom six for BU, bringing the size and physicality that Pandolfo prefers.

Even though he will be a sophomore, I believe that Shane is the oldest of the three.
