BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

Yeah, regardless of what happens here, I'm really happy with what I've seen. The people who have argued that there is a lack of effort or no interest in playing for BU, only here to go to the NHL, etc. are nuts. I hope that Quinn can learn and adapt just like he teaches his players, and I hope he can get some balance with the classes once he gets all his players in here.

Most importantly, we went west and actually won an NCAA tournament game! That's the biggest thing to come out of this weekend.

Agreed. And that's all a lot of us were asking for, because they went LONG stretches of games this year without showing that effort.

Also, I'm not buying what the "announcers" were saying that both teams were "equally" rested. BU played FIVE PERIODS and was physically and emotionally drained. Duluth was asleep for much of their game against a MUCH inferior opponent before they finally woke up. To me, there is NO comparison. BU's legs were dead and they still almost won this game and dominated most of the third period. They just couldn't react. I distinctly remember at least four times where BU had almost point blank shots and just couldn't get them off in time.

I'm not disappointed in them because they gave it all they had, and that's all I wanted to see

Wondering how the game would've gone if they didn't cough up that end of period goal in the first.

Mookie, catching the highlights since i only got home for OT. you must have been thinking of o'connor on that first duluth goal

We can "if" our way until the cows come home, if JFK pots the puck Miska robbed or the one he whiffed in front. It's not how the game broke, so it goes. Real proud of the effort they put out tonight despite clearly being gassed as all hell. They were going to have to win that game on adrenaline alone and couldn't quite get it done. If UMD is one of the two or three best teams in the country, then I'm real happy with how we performed against them.

I think they beat this team if both teams are equally well-rested. It's just the luck of the draw. Of course, that's where the PWR system makes EVERY game important. They were very close to being a #1 seed which would have avoided having to play two very good teams "on the road" back to back.

Nah that wasn't an O'Connor-esque goal. Jake gambled a bit when he shouldn't have and Harper was a bit slow getting to the far side of the net to take out the forward.

Only one "real" Hockey East team left in the tournament. Unfortunately for Lowell, they are going to run into Denver (if they get by ND), who I think is CLEARLY the best team in the country.

I actually liked the UND matchup when it was seeded - PSU we do NOT matchup well with, and Air Force had upset written all over it with their scoring ability and solid goaltending. I think if this region were in Cincinnati, or an eastern site we have a much different set of results across the board.

Well that's why I said "equally rested." The matchup was good in the sense that you play the tough (IMO) opinion game first. Essentially if we don't let ND come back to tie that game and win in regulation, I think we're in the FF right now.

That's a fair argument, we'll never know. I do believe the broken glass definitely gave UND an opportunity to regroup and refocus. We weren't playing great hockey before that, but were doing a decent job limiting top quality chances and making them shoot from low percentage areas. Those types of unexpected long stoppages generally favor teams who are behind.

Yes, and I think North Dakota was feeling the pressure because with the clock moving almost continuously, it must have seemed like the game was almost over and they were starting to press. The delay allowed them to collect themselves and then that face-off loss was a killer.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

I've decided that it's more fun playing than watching. This was agonizing. One feels so helpless...

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

If you guys watched that OT last night, ohio state skated circles around duluth and hit a post. Miska also made a ridiculous stick save on someone. That and how UND was so close to winning, crazy how these games go.

That's why I said those people that were saying that both teams were "equally" drained are full of cr*p. Duluth slept through most of that game and was not nearly as gassed as BU was. This thing about "Well, BU's game ended earlier so that had more rest?" Gimme a break. A few hours doesn't equalize things when your legs are that dead.

What can you do? It's fair to say that BU got lucky yesterday, so these things even out.

Yep, and if JFK pots those two gimme opportunities it might be 3-0 real early tonight and the game takes a totally different shape. But in order to win it all you have to get some breaks along the way, we didn't get enough. It's just the nature of the game.

no. not even comparable. one shot was hard and low. the other was a fungo :D

what can you do.... life goes on.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

Ha i just meant how you used to get on OC for wrap around type goals, not covering post quickly enough etc

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread III: Terriers falling (into the off season)

I'm obviously disappointed because I was hoping for a NC, just like I do every year. I'm definitely proud of the effort though especially since I thought we were going to be one and done in this tourney after drawing ND in the first round. Agreed with the general sentiment that UMD looked beatable in this game despite seemingly being the best/2nd best team in the country all year. We definitely were able to skate with them. I'll be rooting for them or UML to win it all.

Now let's see what happens during the off season. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get a few good surprises with guys maybe deciding to stay another year and get some hardware next year.
