Gross, but better than the alternative

Yes, no HE titles of any sort for ND and they leave the league with their tail between their legs. Send them back where they belong (although we'll miss the easy 2 points they usually represented).

Would love to oblige...but I have to tell you, this team is NOT in a good place right now and I doubt that the fact that ND is leaving the league will prove to be much motivation for them. I'm not sure WHAT can motivate this team...

Well if you're right, if you lose tomorrow you're playing pc in the second round. And BUs season could be over by the second weekend in March

Yeah...I've been watching this all year and I'm not sure if it's the passing as much as they just don't know how to get open. A couple of plays tonight as an example...Keller comes over the line and they have a three on two. NOBODY IS OPEN. You could see him just visibly hesitate - nowhere to go with the puck so finally he just throws it in the corner. It's like that all the time. Guys behind the net and NOBODY in front. NOBODY open. I guess you can give ND some credit for their back checking, but it's just ridiculous.

The best word to describe their play is frenetic. Someone said last week they were "skating around like chickens with their heads cut off." But that's what it seems like. I hate to keep bringing up the age thing, but these kids just can't slow the game down. They just can't relax and PLAY. It's as if everyone is trying to win the game in the first minute. Really frustrating to watch.

Individual talent doesn't necessarily translate to "high scoring." This team has just never "jelled" all year. I don't know why anybody would expect them to now.

1-8-2 now when trailing after two periods is all you have to know about this team.
I don't understand ...DQ is the offensive sensai ...I mean he had 12 points his senior year...play Diffley and MacLeod...that should do the trick...what a moron

Unlikely. The Power is strong with this team. After they lose to PC they'd most likely have one more kick at the can.

Thinking they'd send them west when this happens, no?

Starting to compile my list of things I could buy with the money I'd save by not having to pay for tickets to the Garden.....

Meeeeeeeeeeee.

Though admittedly, I don't post many thoughts/opinions.

I just enjoy the banter.

......I JUST missed out on the 09 NC :(

sorry. didn't realize. your name is similar to an oldtimer. :)

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Sending them west isn't as simple as it used to be in the 12 team format. Now it depends on who falls into what band, attendance etc

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Disappointing to score 1 goal after putting up 8 in their last game.
- McAvoy indeed had a tough night. Directly responsible for two of the three goals. Perhaps the talking heads will stop penciling him into the Bruins lineup for next season.
- I really don't understand why we keep putting defensemen at forward. Lightning struck with Ahti, but it's usually not going to work. We have plenty of forwards. I wish Diffley could find his game, but right now he needs to be sitting, put Switzer on d, and let one of the other forwards play on the 4th line. Unless we are winning big, they are only going to see about three shifts anyway.
- I don't like Keller and Greenway on the same line. We are negating each of their strengths. Put Keller with Bobo and Harper and let them use their speed. Bobo has plenty of toughness.
- We really miss Hickey and Olsson right now.
- Some credit has to go to ND and Jackson's coaching. They played a tremendous game. They have as good a shot at winning the HE tourney as anyone.

is difley there just due to there being NO depth? our 3rd line is awful. doubt they would be the 4th line on merrimack or uconn when you come right down to it.

jj was in GQ's head. watching the line changes and GQ's attempt to change late and match up was .... well interesting. almost like belicheat vs tomlin :(

Yeah, but look who they were playing (no disrespect intended).

That's why I put up the +/- stats last night. BU is SEVENTH in the league in goals scored (in addition, they're also seventh among all the HE schools when you add in the OOC games). The "talent" has just not translated into good offensive production. But I think you have a great point regarding the line "combinations." The reality is, if this team didn't do a good job of goal prevention (they led the league in goals against until last night - they could regain that tonight if they win by more than one goal, but who really cares anyway?), they would be down in the middle of the pack somewhere. Whether that's due to coaching or just under-performing I'll leave up to others.

On another note, tough to figure out Greenway. I almost think he'll be better in the NHL where there's less space on the ice and his possession type game can pay dividends when there are actually people in FRONT OF THE NET that he can pass to. Here it just seems as though he does a good job digging and controlling the puck but it doesn't result in anything. Perhaps it's because of who his linemates are.

As I said last night, there doesn't seem to be any "purpose" to their skating. They have wonderful speed and skill but the production isn't there. They don't seem to have any chemistry together. It's perplexing because one would think by this time they would have at least developed that in practice. I know some of this sounds disingenuous because people on other threads are rolling their eyes and saying "I wish WE had that much talent." But our expectations are relative to the talent that is out on the ice. I doubt if last night would have been "disappointing" if the talent level were considerably lower.

So, again, the $64,000 question (only you old-timers will get that) is: "What happened?" Who has the answer?????

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

And Mookie is right about the spacing. They always seemed "bunched up." And why is that? You have a bunch of talented people who all think they have to do it by themselves because they don't trust their teammate? Is that it? Who knows? But that's what I meant by they have never developed chemistry. You know when you watch the mites between periods? Or a youth soccer game? What do you see? Ten kids (or twenty in soccer) all within about 2 feet of the ball, because they all want to "get it." They haven't yet learned the concept of spreading out to give their teammates space to operate. That's what BU looks like. Guys always seem to be in each other's way, or standing right next to each other. It's one of the reasons the PP is so ineffective. When you pass to a guy standing 10 feet away, both players can be covered by one person, which negates the man advantage. The whole point is to spread out so that you can create an odd-man advantage, since the puck moves faster than the skater. If you whip it around and have good spacing, eventually someone is going to be open. But I see these lazy, slow passes and then the defender is all over the player and then you have a turnover.

And the dumping the puck in with a team that skates this well just absolutely drives me crazy...

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

You can't let Notre Dame come into Agannis, win a Hockey East title and shuffle off to the BTHC. Cripes, you know the situation is dire if *I* am cheering for you guys.

We can't seem to stop it, either...

Great movie, by the way...but if I were you I wouldn't "count" on this team at this point. Roll the dice!

We'll see if this team has ANY pride tonight...
