BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

I think Sean's greater point is that the "leaving early" thing is not anything new...it's been going on for a long time.
Yes, I was a bit surprised with the number that were cut/left early from the 1986-87 and 1988-89 teams as nether was very good. Eighty-eight players have left early over 32 seasons, while 24 of those have left in the past 5 seasons. So while it has been an issue for decades, it has become more serious recently. Several of those were cut by Coach Quinn and it will be interesting to see if he continues to cut players, or if that has pretty much come to an end.

His claim to fame? Scored the first goal ever at Conte Forum. /useless knowledge
Yes, but in this case useless knowledge that can be used to annoy BC fans. :)

And I keep mixing up Matt Pesklewis and Matt Radoslovich (sp?)
Correct spelling. I liked both players, although over a decade apart. I thought Radoslovich a bit more of a skill player while Pesklewis was a more gritty player.

Also, Sean - should I expect my Girl Scout cookies to be delivered this Friday???
Yes

Brandon Hickey will miss this weekend's set v. Notre Dame w/ a lower-body injury. Will start practicing Monday, aim for healthy playoff run.

Probably best, if he's not 100% it's too risky to bring him back with the bye week ahead.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

The Herb Brooks warning "You don't HAVE enough talent to win on talent alone" isn't heeded against some of these opponents.

Neither was a favorite Parker warning: "Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard." Several of this season's losses can be explained in that way.

IIRC, Radoslovich was a rare unrecruited walk-on. He was already accepted to BU when his HS coach asked that he be given a chance to try out. Became an effective fourth liner and a good penalty-killer.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Wow....quiet around here. UML helped us out last night, winning the #1 seed is now completely in the Terrier's hands (or paws).

Looking forward to seeing tonights game in person.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

So, Doyle's back at D tonight. Hickey is out. Who sits - Diffley or Switzer? Or does someone else and those two both play? With Doyle no longer taking up a space on the fourth line, who plays? Or do Diffley and Switzer both play with one of them at forward?

It's been quite here all season, at least when BU wins. When the team loses a few anti-Quinn/anti-player fans post about how bad the players and coaches are.

It seems to me that many who used to post here have moved on or if they are still here they no longer post. I've always been more of a reader than a poster, but I have certainly noticed that BU fans seems to have become less active posting over the past several seasons. I went through the archives and here are the threads for every season since 2009-10 with start and end dates:

Season- start date - end date
2016-17 Part II - 2-8-2017
2016-17 Part I - 10-8-2016 - 2-8-2017

2015-16 Part III - 2-29-2016 - 5-23-2016
2015-16 Part II - 12-20-2015 - 2-29-2016
2015-16 Part I - 10-9-2015 - 12-20-2015

2014-15 Part IV - 4-4-2015 - 5-25-2015
2014-15 Part III - 3-19-2015 - 4-4-2015
2014-15 Part II - 1-25-2015 - 3-19-2015
2014-15 Part I - 10-5-2014 - 1-25-2015

2013-14 Part III - 2-21-2014 - 10-5-2014
2013-14 Part II - 1-9-2014 - 2-22-2014
2013-14 Part I - 10-18-2013 - 1-9-2014

2012-13 Part III - 2-15-2013 - 3-13-2013
2012-13 Part II - 1-11-2013 - 2-15-2013
2012-13 Part I - 10-9-2012 - 1-11-2013

2011-12 Part VI - 3-20-2012 - 6-27-2012
2011-12 Part V - 2-22-2012 - 3-20-2012
2011-12 Part IV - 2-3-2012 - 2-22-2012
2011-12 Part III 12-16-2011 - 2-3-2012
2011-12 Part II - 11-14-2011 - 12-16-2011
2011-12 Part I - 9-30-2011 - 11-14-2011

2010-11 Part IV - 3-12-2011 - 4-11-2011
2010-11 Part III - 2-15-2011 - 3-12-2011
2010-11 Part II - 11-13-2010 - 2-15-2011
2010-11 Part I - 9-2-2010 - 11-13-2010

2009-10 Part IV - 3-4-2010 - 4-2-2010
2009-10 Part III - 1-26-2010 - 3-4-2010
2009-10 Part II - 12-2-2009 - 1-26-2010
2009-10 Part I - 10-11-2009 - 12-2-2009

As can be seen this season was the latest a second thread was started and four of the past five seasons it took until the new year to start the second thread. It also took until mid-March to start a third thread in 2014-15, even though that was a very good team. Going through the archives I also noticed that there used to be a weekly thread for the games that BU was playing for that week. I don't recall very many of those threads being created in the past few seasons either.

Diffley had bad plays that cost goals in each of the two games last weekend, so if it were up to me, he would sit and Switzer would dress.

On the 4th line, I'd like to see Chabot, Phelps, and Kelley. I would consider putting McDermott in for Kelley in one of the two games.

Kelley is probably dressing tomorrow at the very least as it's Senior Night.

It's been more than "a few." Pretty much all the regulars except for the cheerleaders can see the issues with this team.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

Undoubtedly has to be Switzer over Diffley. Probably one of Andren/Kelley as the 12th F.

Re: BU 2017 Season Thread II: Terriers rising

It seems to me that many who used to post here have moved on or if they are still here they no longer post.

This is my hypothesis (which I have probably expressed before): I just think that it is a reflection of all of the "sensory overload" in today's society. There is so much competition for one's time that this board tends to be reduced to those who have really made it a "priority." Between Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc., there is only so much time in a day.

Good analysis, though. All you need now is a frequency distribution chart to graphically display the data. :D

Back in the day (said in my GET OFF MY LAWN voice), this used to be the only place to engage. Remember the Score Update forum used to have ridiculously active threads on game nights? And we would have a team thread and then separate threads for games? Now, for BU anyway, the Freep has a live game blog. Assuming other schools have something similar. Twitter is also another outlet providing real time engagement.
