BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

I know I'm in the minority, but Matthews is a ridiculously overrated place to see a game. The sightlines are brutal, concourses are narrow, many obstructed view seats. Not really a fan.
Well, just like Fenway Park, some people confuse historic with best. However, I do agree it is one of the three best barns in Hockey East...come to think about it, are there any other barns in Hockey East? Personally, I prefer watching hockey games in arenas, not barns.

I'd call the Gutt a barn. Maine could be an arena, and for my money, is the best one in the conference.

I know this is blasphemy or whatever but NU is my least favorite rink in HE to go to (full disclosure haven't been to Mullins, Gutt, Alfond, or Compton).

Post upgrades, I preferred Lawler, barely.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Bucci did the first segment with him where he asked a few questions and then did a lightning round (that's where he screwed up the Grzelcyk spelling.) Then he was in the Levy Lounge with Steve Levy and Melrose. They did NHL hightlights together. They then asked him a few questions about his favorite NHL player, what was the most goals he ever scored in one season (Answer: 100 in Junior High.) He then participated in the Top 10 Plays of the night, reading three of them, and finally they taped a shooting drill with three pie plates with Bucci, Levy, and Melrose's face on them. Jack shot at all three, doing the most damage to Melrose's plate. (Top left corner.) At the end they asked him for his NHL picks for the Cup Finals (LA Kings, TB and the Habs. He didn't pick between those two Eastern teams.) Fun stuff. He said he had a Noon class on Wednesday, so had to get back for that. :)

Thanks for the recap! :)

The pre-1990 renovation Gutt was a barn in every way, but it lost some of that feel after the renovation. Still, if the multiple-times renovated Matthews is still a barn, then the Gutt is still a barn. Alfond was a barn before it was expanded, but now I think it is just another so-so arena.

Snively was a great barn; McHugh was a terrible barn; I'd say Ingalls is a barn, but barns aren't designed by world famous architects (and it's not in Hockey East).

I like it, honestly. If HEA is hosting it, it's only natural that they'd find a way to showcase arguably the best rink in the Boston area, and one of the three best barns in the league.

Matthews is best arena in the loop in which to watch a game, as long as you're in the first row of the balcony. Anywhere else in the facility? Much less so.

Some may recall when a thirsty fan could scoot across the street to the fabled, and much lamented, Windsor Tap between periods to enjoy the good taste of beer. Re-entry to the Arena? Wasn't a problem.

As difficult as it may be to imagine now, during the '60's, The Arena hosted a 3, then 2, night hockey tournament between Christmas and New Years. Until the early '70's, attendance was strong. Granted the tourney included BU, NU and sometimes Harvard. However, the tournament provided Boston fans rare opportunities to see western teams.

I just got 2 All session seats in Balcony 311 on the secondary market. Row 15, which I prefer cause I can stand all game. Not too bad at $354 per. I think I heard face value is $225. Is this right? If so, I guess I pay the stupid premium for passing on the opportunity to buy a pair through my Bruins account in February.

In actual hockey related news, am I the only one who wishes we were on the other side of the bracket? No disrespect to Providence or Omaha, but North Dakota is the favorite at this point, no?

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

I just ordered thru Stub Hub two balcony seats in section 326 row 11 at a cost of $338 for all sessions. My wife vetoed this as we are heading to Florida the day before. Anyone interested in the tickets ? I remember carrying six packs of beer into the old Boston Arena with no problem to see BU play...which dates me for sure.

In 1966, that Boston Arena Christmas Tournament produced one of the most fabled games in Terrier hockey history. After having beaten Harvard (7-5) and Northeastern (6-1) the first two nights, BU played a 3-3 double overtime time with Cornell, led by Ken Dryden. (Ithaca Journal game recap). Three months later, Cornell beat BU in the NCAA championship game.

Mullins is absolutely terrible. Go to the Gutt and go to Alfond. Alfond first.

I'm enjoying this east coast arena talk since I've never been to any of them.

Question regarding the bolded section, do you guys not have alcohol served at your arena(or barns :))?

Agganis is the only arena in Hockey East that serves beer and wine. Reason #32 why BU rocks.

Yes...but what he's saying is that you could actually leave the arena in the middle of the game (or between periods, whatever...) to go across the street to a pub and then come back in. Pretty cool...

Mullins is absolutely terrible. Go to the Gutt and go to Alfond. Alfond first.

Yeah zero desire to go to Mullins. Gutt apparently the area is gorgeous, Alford with the drive probably ain't happening in near future.

Agganis is by far my favorite rink to go to in HE (also helps that BC usually wins there :D)

If playing @UMASS on a Friday, it'd take less time to fly to Chicago than to drive to Amherst.

Nothing to see nor do in Bangor/Orono, although the atmosphere at Alfond is very cool when Maine is playing well.

You should do the @UVM trip the next time BC's up there. Burlington is a great little city. Lively atmosphere in the Gutt, esp. since visiting fans are placed in the end almost adjacent to the students.

I thought he did a great job (DVR'd it, watched all segments this morning). He looked a little nervous, but not as much as most would have been. I thought he said that the 100 goals were a Squirt year, which is typically 9 and 10 year olds, so 4th and 5th grade usually. Lots of mention by Buccigross of other Terriers during the conversing - in addition to Grzelcyk: Rodrigues, O'Regan, AJ Greer (who was there with him).

Lots of great PR...

Orono ain't bad. Decent places to eat in town and on the outskirts

Burlington has a cool downtown area with decent restaurants too. Only thing is if you are walking around with kids consider a mask unless you want to introduce pot to them at a young age (couple breaths and they are high no problem)
