BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Isn't it the same as in DC??

No. People that wouldn't or couldn't go to DC can easily go here...plus, there are THOUSANDS more who WANT to go here...

Is the frustration higher than with DC just because that year face value tickets were easily available on secondary markets and now they clearly are not?

Yes. Plus, as alluded to before, the cost of the secondary markets is triple what it was in DC, because the demand wasn't there. I sold two tickets five minutes before the game in DC and was lucky to do that...for BELOW face value...

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

I actually found the last TLP statement I received; it was from March 2011  with my TLP total after the 2009-10 season. One major issue I have with the TLP structure is they de-emphasize men's season ticket holder loyalty. Currently it has the same value as women's ice hockey, men's and women's b-ball (2 points per year for each). I think they must re-emphasize men's ice hockey season ticket loyalty and give it the same point value as consecutive & total years of giving to BU Athletics (5 points per year).
I also have my statement from 2011 and it also included a Where You Stand section. I also asked for and received updated statements in March 2013 and December 2013. The March 2013 statement included the Where You Stand section, while the December 2013 statement did not. I also called last week and received an updated TLP total, with no breakdown or Where You Stand. BU may have stopped the Where You Stand section as it gave out information BU may not have wanted to make known. Between March 2011 and March 2012 BU lost 746 season ticket holders (1673 to 927) for men's ice hockey. In the same time total donors to BU Athletics increased by 311 to 45,945.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

From the "Frozen Four" thread (might as well provoke something to distract me from my disappointment at not being able to go...):

I'm just going to enjoy the atmosphere. Top hockey in a top hockey town. The only team I really have any rooting interest against is BU and that's not really all that strong after Jack Parker left. I'm still bitter that he broke off the yearly BU/BC v. CCT/SLU out of conference matchup because he didn't like driving to the North Country every 2 years to lose 2 games.

So when I have no rooting interest, I generally go by my opinions of the programs and the fans. PC always plays us and their fans (few as there may be) have always been nice. ND fans have been great at the FF's I've been to and I have a lot of respect for the program because they traveled east, even when they were in the incestuous WCHA. Omaha, I know very little about their fans or their program at all.

So, I'll be there in my Clarkson jersey looking for some good fans, good pubs, and great hockey.

So some loyal, die-hard BU fan will be shut out so this guy can go ...and cheer against us...

I knew there was a drop-off in # of season ticket holders, but didn't know it was that many.

To be fair anyone has a right to go and cheer for whomever. Might be able to get you tix for semifinals... stick around.

What you quoted was asking if the process for getting tickets through BU is the same, not if demand is the same.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Well consider if those 311 were all new premium seat holders.
They all jumped the line and get first dibs on beanpot AND playoff tickets with a measly 3 yr commitment ($4800-5000 payable over 3 yrs).
If they buy more than one ticket that's all 600 tickets than BU got to distribute :)

And he got his ticket(s) through the NCAA system back in October/November long before anyone knew what teams would be in Boston. So yes, he deserves to be there more than some loyal, die-hard BU fan who didn't get tickets through the NCAA system, especially if that fan didn't even attempt to get tickets through the NCAA system.

Good for him! College hockey needs more fans like this guy. If we did, the Regional sites wouldn't be half empty.

So here's my two cents (nobody asked, but that has never stopped me in the past). I have already accepted the fact that I am going to be watching on TV, simply because I am not paying $500/ticket.

Still a few $400 ticket packages left on Stubhub.

BU Hockey: Need chickod. :)

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

And, you know, I'm really sorry...seriously. People like you deserve to go (far more than I do - I've followed BU actually for 44 years but have not had season tickets for that long). It's no consolation, but I sincerely believe my previous post sums it up. They just ain't gonna be there. It's not because you're not high enough on the list (OK - I guess "technically" it is)...it's because so many were (I hate to use this word but Mookie is right) "skimmed" off the top before they even got to the list that you would have to be VERY high up to get anything. And before people start accusing me, no, I don't have any inside information. But think about it people.... And, if you don't want to entertain that thought, consider this more objective one. If each school gets 600 tickets, you can find 600 people to go IN BOSTON in five minutes. You couldn't do that for DC.

In comparison to 2009, I think between the increased demand from season ticket holders + the changes to the loyalty points structure that took place in 2010 to place even greater emphasis on financial support to BU Athletics = Some long-time loyalists got shut out this time.

I agree that fans like Bomber and others similar deserve to go. It's unfortunate the current points structure hurts many supporters b/c (as previously stated) of the de-emphasis on season ticket holder loyalty.

FWIW, this year is an extreme case. Assuming BU gets there, I don't foresee the demand for Tampa, Chicago or St. Paul being at the levels we're seeing this year nor in '09.

While I accept your point (I got mine through the NCAA), I think in a roundabout way he was complaining about the team in the FF only receiving 600 tickets. Which is a low amount to me. Is this number the same every year or does it fluctuate? I swear that number has been larger in the past in other venues.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

At this point, my frustration (though I didn't even bother requesting) is who IS getting these 600 tickets? 30-year season ticket holders aren't, so who is? Are they going to actual BU hockey fans, or to university bigwigs who will show up in a suit and tie and maybe know the name of our goalie. That's the question BU/Agganis needs to answer right now to all of you who've been around for decades - who's ahead of you in line?

Many smaller schools who made the FF recently were not able to sell their full allotment. Maybe that caused it to shrink in the past few years?

Again.

A place like bu that begs for money should be informing all TLP peeps where the cut off was with points and how the tickets were allocated:
Brownie 150
Students 100
Student athlete families 50
Premium seat holders 280
STH/TLP participants 20

:D

IIRC in '09 each school received 600. BU was able to accommodate more requests by accruing Bemidji's remaining available tickets. My original tix for '09 were thru BU but in the Bemidji section. And I didn't find out until the Thursday or Friday before the FF that I got them.

Highly unlikely as season ticket holders dropped by 746 and I doubt they lost another 311 that were replaced by premium seat holders. Also, my season ticket rank went up 6 places, so again, it seems very unlikely.

However the increase in athletic support is a sign that BU has been successful in increasing athletic denotations in general and to other sports. I recall reading after the last month long donor drive that there were many first time donors to a number of different sports, including men's hockey (I believe men's crew 'won' the 'competition' ahead of men's hockey).

I think many more people have requested tickets from BU this year than they did in '09.

I think that 600 number is pretty consistent.
I also recall Jason telling me in 2009 that BU went and got some extras off the other schools that didn't use all of their allotment.

I wish that, for the students, BU could purchase a huge chunk from the NCAA and sell at cost to students (and Brown, as well).

I also wish the student athlete families were higher, because 50 seems low. Roughly 2 tickets per skater.
