I agree, but it is also about what each person considers important. I know people who go to Disney World 2 or more times a year and have no problem taking their children out of school to do so. I know others who go to the Frozen Four every year and have no problem taking their children out of school.
Yes there is, TV. All the games are on TV and to maximize viewing they try to minimize overlapping games. Even so, two games conflict on Friday and two conflict on Saturday. Since not everyone can or wants to travel, having the games on TV is important to many fans. There has been complaining on the bracketology thread that televising the games reduces the attendance, but I recall the complaining when the games weren't televised, or not picked up locally. Personally, I much prefer that the games are televised.
As for the start time, back in 2009 there was a lot of complaining that as the #1 seed BU should have had the early game in Manchester, and among those in the arena it increased when the UNH-UND game went to overtime. Just last week there was complaining that BU had the late Hockey East semifinal and now, as the #1 seed in Manchester BU gets the early game and there is complaining BU should have the late game. Having the early game affects me, but I'll work something out if I can. Otherwise I'll miss another BU game. I missed the Hockey East Championship because my daughter was playing in the Tier III Girls State Championships in West Springfield. I would have loved to have been at the Garden, but it just wasn't possible.
