Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

1.) I have an excellent sense of direction
2.) I know how to get to the VW, I've just been to the Dunk more.
3.) I texted you a photo of Jasmine - and this is the thanks I get???

Am I the only one here who realizes there is ALWAYS a mid afternoon game on Friday? Last year it was in Bridgeport I believe. This time just happens to be the Northeast regional. While I don't disagree that it will be pretty empty and difficult for people to attend, this isn't something that's never happened.

This type of NCAA regionals schedule is not unheard of. They also have a TV schedule to plan for. These are not regular season games on a regular schedule. You want your team to make the NCAA tournament, you need to be plan to work around their schedule, not yours. I'm sure there is the same issue with bouncy ball fans.
I think it alternates. 2 years ago I'm pretty sure we had the late games. 4 years ago the Sunday game. Exiting the VWA Sunday night at 9:30 - 10:00 PM was not ideal.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

well it is what it is. basketball plays thurs/fri then sat/sun. we are lucky that they don't require a day off for hockey (which if you think about it they should since the wear and tear is much greater in our preferred sport than bball). and if they did do all the games on the weekend people would complain because one wouldn't be able to watch as many games since there would be insane overlap.

i may take one kid out since this year (unlike the past two for example) they don't have to take days off this year when i take two of them to the frozen four as i do every year.

i'd find the individuals who are inconvenienced are inward thinking and wish instead that everything was set up easy for them. of course i'd prefer a regional in worcester every year cause that would be easiest for me. also like it to be at night so i could park on the street and not have to pay for parking (any game for that matter). i'd also like while we're at it for the frozen four to pass out free parking vouchers. that would be swell.

why is taking vacation for a college hockey game a lessening event that what else? going to the beach?!?! going to a wedding?!?!? going to play golf?!?! i would (rightly) assume the fact that most of us are here means college hockey (or specifically bu hockey) is pretty important. or is it just important when convenient?

i guess my point is if it's a big deal for someone that's too bad.

Just because it might be easy for you to take a day off, does not mean that it is for everyone. Yes maybe it is a bigger deal for one person as compared to another. Or maybe it is impossible for someone. It isn't fair to categorize it as "convenient" or "not convenient". Maybe it just is what it is and too bad for these people, but yes I feel bad for them…. and I feel bad for the team who will be playing in front of a 1/3 full arena on Friday.

College hockey is not NCAA basketball March Madness. Last I checked, March Madness didn't have attendance / fan following issues that college hockey seems to have, so one would think that they would want to do everything they can to maximize viewership and attendance of these games, but thats just me and if they want to maximize their attendance, they should think about making it more convenient for people.

Everyone should just move to Manch and purchase great seats 5 months in advance. This is like the best thing ever and my #1 team isn't even playing!

Oy, the whining! Have a beer and a shot and listen to Aaron Rodgers. R-E-L-A-X. It's hockey. We're good again. Enjoy the ride.

And then we would hear comments about games late on a Sunday night - I have to work the next day! My kids have school! And so on.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Maybe its a big deal or maybe its not. It could be depending on what someone has as far as meetings / calls / what they need to get done. Or for people in jobs that can't just take a day off without finding coverage for themselves (medical professionals etc). It could be a big deal to have to decide to pull kids who want to see the game out of school. Or maybe someone with limited vacation days would prefer to not burn a day for a college hockey game.
I agree, but it is also about what each person considers important. I know people who go to Disney World 2 or more times a year and have no problem taking their children out of school to do so. I know others who go to the Frozen Four every year and have no problem taking their children out of school.

The point is that there is no good reason to not have these games on Sat / Sunday. Then this question would be a non issue.
Yes there is, TV. All the games are on TV and to maximize viewing they try to minimize overlapping games. Even so, two games conflict on Friday and two conflict on Saturday. Since not everyone can or wants to travel, having the games on TV is important to many fans. There has been complaining on the bracketology thread that televising the games reduces the attendance, but I recall the complaining when the games weren't televised, or not picked up locally. Personally, I much prefer that the games are televised.

As for the start time, back in 2009 there was a lot of complaining that as the #1 seed BU should have had the early game in Manchester, and among those in the arena it increased when the UNH-UND game went to overtime. Just last week there was complaining that BU had the late Hockey East semifinal and now, as the #1 seed in Manchester BU gets the early game and there is complaining BU should have the late game. Having the early game affects me, but I'll work something out if I can. Otherwise I'll miss another BU game. I missed the Hockey East Championship because my daughter was playing in the Tier III Girls State Championships in West Springfield. I would have loved to have been at the Garden, but it just wasn't possible.

agree that new bridge is great. right off Rt3, south of the tolls, now and a quick sprint to MHT. saves 10-15 minutes
When did it open? I haven't even been up NH3/I293 since 2009!

Fall of 2011. It took forever to build. Planned when the airport was growing exponentially it is not as needed as once thought, but is spurring industrial development around the airport and is super convenient. The original plan, scrapped long ago, was to have it continue past the airport to 93.

Yeah, that seems to happen to most plans around here!

mookie was shocked they didn't move the toll booths so he pays when he uses that too.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Yeah, your last visit up was a joy for UNH fans.

i use MHT often. i recall driving up to go to pittsburgh for a playoff game early one sunday in a driving snow storm their last sb year (2009) where the bridge wasn't up yet.

that pair of games was something else. your own goal gave us the lead but after the great comeback and late goal your guys had to beat the sioux there was in turn a late faceoff in our zone with time put up (0.2 or 0.1?) and scarlet wouldn't look up to watch. she had her head buried in her hands and i told her there wasn't enough time, she was safe since you guys needed 0.3 to tie yesterday. she looks up and yells SHUT UP!!!! so loud that BU2K and his wife jumped. rather funny - only since uhn didn't score of course :p

A bit of a screw up for NH, the exact details and sequence of events I don't recall, but booths had been rebuilt and moved a bit before the final bridge plans. Additional booth approval to collect bridge tolls was a multi jurisdictional thing. The Feds were involved, perhaps because they provided funds somewhere along the line. The original plan had the bridge a few hundreds yards north, but a bald eagle nesting site caused the move south to the current location. It is common to see traffic exit 3, cross the bridge, pull a U and renter 3 to avoid the toll.
