Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

The problem is that all this is difficult to gauge, because I don't think there is a team in the East as good as BU. So if we lose in the NCAAs it's going to be to either North Dakota, Minnesota or Mankato (IMO)
Funny you should say that.
I've been thinking that the regional that best suits BC would be BU's. :)

Grumble grumble grumble. No.

So, if BU wins tonight and secures a #1 seed and the other three #1 seeds are all from the west, what is the reasoning behind sending BU to Manchester vs. Providence? If the don't win tonight, could they still get a #1 seed based on the other games and wait.....never mind. I really don't want to worry about any of that. Too confusing to think about this early.

chickod - I thought the crowd wasn't bad, especially hearing the numbers for other conferences. I'm curious to see what the crowd will be like tonight.

The idea, from what I read a while ago, is that BU will draw well in either Manchester or Providence. Yes, ManchVegas is slightly closer, but there's a distinctive lack of Eastern teams to help attendance. So it means that Providence needs to be there to draw. I mean, theoretically, you can switch Denver/Colgate (as it stands now) with BC/Duluth, that way you have a possible second-round draw and make it even more convenient. But if BU/Quinny is the first game in Manchester, no one is going to stick around for the second one. Then again, Colgate might be easier for Vegas than Providence. But it looks like it will be a coin flip.

Note: I'm going by this set of projections. I have a feeling a bunch is going to change this afternoon and evening, so these brackets could change mightily.

:) Yeah, it's like your speaking a foreign language. This is why I said never mind. I was just curious if there was a specific reason for Manchester vs Providence. And Manchester is not closer than Providence. I've driven to both from Boston and have made it to Providence in less than an hour. On a non-Friday after work because you can never make it to Providence in less than 17 hours from Boston on a Friday night.

But we'll have Jasmine at The Fours for the UML pre-game which starts at 4:00 with no pre-registration. So if Mookie wants to stop by for some reason...

Oh, now you've gone and done it. I'm sure he'll totally be there now!! She was up in his section a few times last night. Every time they went to her I was totally expecting mookie to be there with her and we would be treated to something very entertaining.

Fortunately we're not in restraining order territory yet.

For those unaware, who is she?

Mookie just rolled over in his grave (if he were dead).

She's UML's in-game host at the Tsongas for announcements and game promotions. HE hires her every year to do the same at the Garden and NCAA is also having her do Frozen Four this year in Boston. So if you were there last night, the woman you saw on the screen running the various promotions.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

She's one of the best at it, IMO. And mookie's been in love with her for years. :)

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Looking forward actually to the regionals in a smaller arena with hopefully a more "boisterous" atmosphere!

Ha! Good luck with that. #RegionalAttendanceSucks

The first line was completely taken out of the game by UNH for the vast majority of the game, so what do we do - get a greasy tap in GWG from the fourth line. You find parts that work when others are faltering, and eventually the skill showed up and Tirone cracked.

Do you mean Phelp's tally? Not exactly a tap-in. Which brings me to picking on my friend NMB. And she started out so promising!

Kelleher's off-speed bid from the slot bobbed and weaved like a knuckleball, throwing off junior goaltender Matt O'Connor and it rolled under him for the score.

Excellent description! Bravo Nancy!!

But then:

Then came Phelp's goal. Roberto attempted a wraparound at the right post but his try was blocked by freshman defenseman Cameron Marks. The puck caromed out to Phelps who fired a shot into the top left corner of the net at 9:53.

Okay, admittedly, this one is picky. It was a backhand chip, not a "fired shot." It was top corner and it was sweet.

And then she gets lazy.

Eichel put the exclamation point on the game when he scored with 6:15 remaining, assisted by...

Uh, why not describe this goal? How hard is this: The Terriers punched their Championship Game ticket with 6:15 remaining in the third. Danny O'Regan found Evan Rodrigues alone in the slot and Rodgrigues had time to settle the puck and pick his corner. His blistering wrister rang off the post and dropped to the left of Tirone and Eichel swooped in to bang home the dagger.

Okay, I'll stop. My own little peave. Thanks for indulging.

Finishing up analysis of last night's game. They played a C+ game and got away with it. The freshman D were jumpy in the first and that chip we hoped ERod was going to play with coming off the HE Award snub? It weighed him down and he played a very sloppy and brainfart filled game. He'll bounce back. How 'bout Greer getting not one, but TWO breakaways? Too funny. Time for Danny to show him the forehand/backhand move. What else? Oh yeah, both goalies played A games. If not, that's a 6-5 barn burner. Onto to UMLOL

BU Hockey: Filling the Trophy Case

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

BU is now 14-2-2 away from Agganis Arena.

BU is guaranteed a 1 seed with a win tonight. I'm sure there are scenarios that give different results, but it looks like a Michigan Tech win puts BU at #4, a Michigan Tech loss puts BU at #3.

Looking forward to the game and a championship. Won't be easy with a UML team that now has to win to get into the NCAAs.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Speaking of shoddy reporting, Scott W in his recap of the game:

"With 63 points, Eichel is within one point of matching the scoring total of Paul Kariya when the Maine standout became the last freshman to win the Hobey in 1992-93."

Well if 1 point = 37 points, then sure.

I think what he meant to say was: one more point would tie Eichel with the most freshman points SINCE Paul Kariya had 100 (89:D).

There are a few stats that anyone who has been a hockey fan for more than 10 years should know, and I think Kariya's 100 (89) is one of them.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

I'm bringing my two boys to the game tonight. I haven't been to a HE Title game since 2006. Freshmen and goaltending were the keys to that win too, so that's a positive.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

And yeah, Bomber, not even describing Phelps' goal as a backhander is lazy.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

I thought the penalty call on Baillargeon was horrid. The interference on Diffley was pretty weak too, in my opinion. Yes, he got in his way, but it right after the forward dumped the puck in. Playing the body when the player doesn't have the puck affords a time cushion of sorts, or "finishing your check" would be a penalty every time.

Did Eichel make any comments about his hit into the boards after the game (now I'm being lazy)? The angle of his head hitting the glass was eerily reminiscent of Travis' injury. And with the delay of him dropping to the ice, I was really concerned about a concussion. The broadcast mike's caught his "what the f was that!" shout to the ref as he skated back up ice.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

That happened right by me. He didn't look good when he got up. I got pretty nervous. But then he scored two goals. So, then I'm thinking Tony Amonte in the 91 Beanpot Final when he got a concussion and then scored a hat trick.

Looking at Scott McLaughlin, who took a look at the brackets, if everything ended today (or maybe if the higher seeds win), BU goes to Manchester, joined by Quinnipiac. Colgate and Denver are the other two teams. BC and Providence are in Providence, facing Miami.
