BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

A heck of a lot better than if they were laughing and hollering. A lot more likely that means they're taking them seriously, as they should. This Lyon kid sounds like one of the best goalies we'll have faced all season.
#1 offense in D1 vs. the #1 defense in D1. Lyon with seven shutouts this season could steal one from BU. BU also averages about 3-4 more penalty minutes per game than Yale, who is the least penalized team in the nation. Yale needs to keep BU to 2 goals or less to have a fighting chance as the Yale offense is unusually quiet this year, especially on the power play.

When did the TLP program start? I don;t recall, but HAA has been open for over 10 years, so premium seat holder have been at the front of the line for that long.

Sean

It was put in place leading up to WWA opening. Your points were used for you to go in and pick your seats in the new barn.

They sent out how many points you had and with that where you stood and when you would be allowed to pick your seats.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

They screwed the whole thing up. Overestimated the demand for premium seats.
Remember they ended up running the FoH promotion where if you bought 1 premium seat you got another gratis.
Then had to throw in carrots like beanpot tickets.

All the while cheapening the comcept of loyalty points. Not to mention destroying FoH. Now you just sign up and give what you feel like. No levels. Obviously nobody saw the results of the summer survey, but they claimed that nobody wanted anything from the program (perhaps since the premium club - with free FoH seats - already fulfilled one's needs)

Last point on the whole date thing - I think the only real legitimate beef is the start time. It's entirely plausible that the games can be 4:30/7:30 in both regions on Friday to allow more time for everyone to get there. Two o'clock in the afternoon is unnecessarily stupid.

Listen
If the time ever comes when Mookie has to head to Bridgeport to see his terriers play, it had better daylight, dammit!!!

It's always sunny ( hi watt sodium) in Bridgeport! As long as you walk directly from the parking lot or train station to the arena. The rink itself is the perfect size for a regional though.

No seats are free. The offer was one full price premium and then you could buy a "buddy" - or companion - seat for the cost of a regular season ticket.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Regarding your claim attendance would increase on Saturday just look at last year. The Friday games in Bridgeport (with 2 and 5:30 games) had a total attendance of 6529 and the Saturday games in Worcester had a total attendance of 6522. Bridgeport had one team in "commuting distance" while Worcester had two teams in "commuting distance", yet the Friday attendance was as good as the Saturday attendance. Here is the attendance for the first day of the 2 eastern regionals back to 2009 with Friday start times:
Code:
Year Friday Friday Friday Saturday
        2-4:30 3-6:30 4:30-8
2014 6529 6522
2013 8049 6253
2012 5090 5925
2011 7671 7608
2010 4073 6572
2009 8478 6883
The worst Friday attendance was in 2010 in Albany, which had no local team with fans able to commute. Best was in 2013 with the latest start times, and it was also better than the games on Saturday at the other eastern regional. In fact, in 4 of the 6 years the regional starting on Saturday had lower first day attendance. These attendance figures do not support the claim that more fans can make it to the Saturday games.

Sean

I guess it depends on what you call commuting distance. Last year Bridgeport had 4 eastern teams.... Providence, Quinnipiac, Union and Vermont. There of those are under a three hour drive. Do you really not think attendance would have been better had the games been on a Saturday (or at least on a Friday evening)?

It is, but Bridgeport....barf.

You are under a misconecption about the FoH companion seat. It was never free, you had to pay for it at the regular season ticket price and it did not include access to the Club Room for the pre-game meal. If you wanted that access you were supposed to pay the $25/$30 for each game, although I know of those who got around that. The companion seat was mostly to allow you to have both premium and non-premium seats together in the premium seat section. They have also ended the FoH companion seat program.

I agree that BU overestimated long term interest in the premium seats, but some of that is on Coach Parker and the decline of the program. I believe that BU also lost many season ticket holder as well over the same time as many decided to spend their money elsewhere.

We play games on Fridays all season, why stop in the playoffs? Move them to late afternoon-evening sessions and the problem is addressed.

Exactly. I should edit my post to say that I believe that attendance would have been better had the games been either on a Saturday or on Friday evening.

I looked at all the distances before I posted and Providence was the closest after Quinniopac, with a 2:30 drive. I certainly do not call that within commuting distance. Furthermore, as the past 6 years of attendance figures show, no, I don't think attendance would have been better on Saturday.

I don't even think there is an official "premium seat" section anymore. Any seat can be a "premium seat" with access to the club room, parking etc. When I was approached about it, one of the things I mentioned is that I did not want to move my seats higher up into the bowl as I prefer the view from where I am. I also know people who have moved their season tickets into what was formerly designated premium seat areas, and do not choose to pay for the club room.

Google Maps shows Prov to Bridgeport as 122 miles / 1 hour 57 min; Schenectady, NY to Bridgeport as 151 miles / 2 horus 40 min. No overnight stay required by any means.

To me it sounds crazy to think that more fans would not have headed out on a day that they don't have to skip work or pull kids out or school. I also don't think you can compare a regional where two teams require flights to one where no teams require flights, but we will have to agree to disagree.

This, and the fact that many alums over the past decade or so aren't interested in premium seats (what's the premium?) when season tickets get you essentially the same thing for less. Not to mention you could not buy season tickets and get discounted tickets outside the door for the same price. BU really needs to consider moving to tiered pricing if they want to continue the premium ticket holder thing. Not to mention a lot of people don't want to be roped into buying tickets to games against Holy Cross, Merrimack, and exhibitions. It's all a system worth revising at a later date.

Re: BU 2014-15 season threat III - Jasmine gets to see us 4 more times

Unrelated question - I am having trouble figuring out where I go to order a BU jersey (either replica or authentic, if they offer). It's unlikely that he will actually do so, but one of my kids was so enthralled with the atmosphere Saturday night and Eichel's performance, that he wants to order an Eichel jersey (not sure yet where the money would come from, but that's a separate issue). I checked HE Online, GoTerriers.com, and just a regular Google search. I know you can obviously buy jerseys in person at B&N/BU Bookstore, and at HAA during games, but there must be a way to order one, no? And hoping thre is a way to get authentic lettering on the back, numbering on the front, etc. I saw a kid wearing an Eichel 50's jersey at Qdoba before the game, I would have asked his dad if I knew this was going to come up...

Fair enough, I think we can all agree that early Friday afternoon games are ridiculous all around. No one's watching TV at 2:00 on a Friday anyways.

You were allowed to pick a seat in "the" premium section and not pay the premium "premium".
That, is free.

Are they hurting for premium club members? What would the tiered pricing look like? Lower prices for corner or end tickets?
