Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

not reporting it or refusing to discuss is not a cover up and is not illegal. This is still America. BS to say it is, total bs

first off it didn't happen like that and second, lets arrest every player at BU. 1000 to 1 they have seen a kid do Cocaine and they didn't report it. as have kids at BC I am sure

kids were booted from team and done so as soon as they had their chance to be heard on the matter. pretty much done deal second it happened but they have rights as well

thing was handled perfectly

not writing about it in a Christmas letter and throwing the entire team under the bus doesn't mean otherwise

Did you think the Pedd State cover up was handled perfectly as well?

Now hoky, you and I both know a perfect example of how a college coach should handle a criminal matter.

"This happened two months ago and we looked into it thoroughly," BU coach Jack Parker told the Herald. "There was no reason to take any disciplinary action."

This player must have been on triple secret probation like Mr Trivino (before the rape).

No kidding. Parker was a good person as well. Just stayed around to long. the kids who got in trouble were going to anyways, he had zero to do with it

Great men make mistakes every day of the week, learn by them and move on

In this case though, Jerry York did nothing wrong. Handled it the way he felt was right and with integrity. Didn't though see the need to make it all about him and tell everyone how great he was for kicking them off immediately. Which is basically what he did,. Zero chance they would ever get reinstated.

these "great men" also did what they felt was right, sometimes the law disagrees with an individual's moral compass, it does with jerry's in Oct 2007

something tells me positive publicity towards himself wasn't what he was hiding from

if you are fine with it and expect more are as well why did you say "why would anybody want that tweet to be true about the program they follow?"

Deuce (proper name for you), you're presenting the tweet as being 100% factual. It wasn't.

As for the rest of the deuce in this thread, I absolutely love the comparisons to the Boston Marathon bombings and the Penn State scandal. Good work, everyone.

Obviously no one was comparing the severity of the incidents themselves, they were a reply to Hokydad (arguably more thought than a reply to him deserved) stating that covering a felony up was not illegal, was not the wrong thing to do, and was the perfect response to said felony. But obviously the only KHayes you care to point out would be from BU fans.

I know it, i thought it would be brought up but instead we are still doing this...........

you mean like your post above?

"In June 2004, the archbishop's residence and the chancery in Brighton and surrounding lands were sold to Boston College, in part to defray costs associated with abuse cases."

when do you plan on hanging up the skates?

"
Time for Jack Parker to go at BU

By Brian McGrory | GLOBE COLUMNIST SEPTEMBER 07, 2012

Let’s not put too fine a point on it all, but the unfortunate reality is that Jack Parker has to go. He may be the great guy that so many people believe him to be. His 40-year tenure may well be one for the record books. His ability to win championships can never be questioned. But he has painfully and obviously lost the capacity to coach his students about life, and that failure is costing his program and the larger university in the very worst of ways. If you want to see how it’s done right, look just up the street at Jerry York and Boston College, where national hockey championships are won more often of late but without the criminal charges and controversies."

.... ahem!!

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

If this is BU's focus for the season................

my sources tell me it is quinn's secondary focus this year, primary being how to provide you with a remedial education to the basics of law in this country

and you wonder why they are not picked to be a top hockey east team....

Some enterprising person could likely find the language put into a coach's contract laying out what they are expected to do given witnessing a felony. I recall the aftermath of the Tressel/OSU/tattoo issue being more about him not reporting things to the school and NCAA than about what the letter of the Ohio law specifies.

In this day and age I'd be surprised if a coach's contract didn't specify risk to the coach if they choose not to properly report conduct that could put the school or students at risk of criminal accusations, NCAA violations or civil lawsuit.

That isn't to say this situation rises to that level...but he didn't run across a few guys missing curfew or being too inebriated.

In fairness, the Tressel case had more to do with the fact that he bold-faced lied to the NCAA, not simply covered it up, but the same logic applies, and free tattoos are not in the same ballpark as cocaine possession.
