BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Maybe... Although Quinn was under contract with the avs when he was introduced.

I guess each team could handle it differently. Wasn't CO about to fire the head coach anyway? I may be mixing that up but I thought they were...and wasn't Denver in process of firing their coach? Might be a few reasons why Quinn could be available and why BU wanted to lock him up.

One other way to look at it...EVERY single NCAA hockey player that had to give up a NHL career due to a blood illness has gone on to become an asst college coach, asst NHL coach and NCAA head coach. You can take that to the bank.

I believe that BU has 4 full scholarships in play? My understanding is that one of the incoming freshman may not be on a full ride now, with a new coach in place. Has anyone heard that as well?

Same sources that told you BU was hiring O'Connell or different ones?

I'm all for getting the right person and if patience is needed until that person gets to a "yes" so be it. But to answer your question is this some hot period for recruiting? The answer is YES. High school & prep prospects go to summer camps run by college coaches (BU has one August 5-8) which gives the coaches an opportunity to evaluate the players and the players an opportunity to get a feel for what coaches they like. Bottom line - they have about 4-5 weeks left for their camp and even less for other camps BU participates in by sending coaches.

Just because he's not wearing a BU golf shirt does not mean greely isn't evaluating players. The guy is under contract with the kings. He was in the rink this weekend---with buddy powers---watching kids....there is no secret or crazy explanation as to why the press release hasn't come out....its his job...when his contract expires, the press release will follow...

What I said on the AO hiring was he would be the hire unless something unforeseen changed his mine, which happened..When Powers leaves he will be the choice again if he chooses to take the job.... to the other point has anyone heard that another scholarship has become available? which would make a total of 4 scholarships not being filled?

Outstanding showing with the HE all- academics this season. Only 3 players listed and i dont think 2 of them even hit the ice. Gen Ed night school can be that hard.

This hopefully is close to the end of the line of this trend for BU under Parker in the past decade +. Really hope Quinn can improve on this. BU has been bottom of the barrell or close to it in the league on HE All-Academics for quite some time.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer.

edit - I wonder if assbonanza has time to update the numbers from this post:

Did anyone else get a small shock when they saw the small headline on the Globe sports page that said "Parker Dies"? Turns out it was Harry, the former Harvard rowing coach.

Sad day for sure... while not in a highly publicized sport, he would, without question, be in the conversation of the best coaches in any sport ever.

I'm confused on why I should care if kids who I enjoy watching play hockey get a 2.8 or a 3.2 GPA. I care if they embarrass the school off the ice, which includes failing out of the university, but if they pass their classes and stay out of trouble I can't figure why this matters to me as a fan who is not related to or potentially hiring any of these young men. If BU's number of all-academics was negatively correlated to embarrassing episodes I'd be more invested in this, but based on Nick's "research" it doesn't appear it does. If a BU fan has an alternate opinion I'd be interested in hearing it (I know the BC fans don't need a similar invite ;) ).

Edit: Schools don't seem to release many statistics on overall performance of student body, but 2 minutes of googling shows:
PC had 14.5% of the class of 2013 have a 3.70 GPA or higher (26.1% had 3.55+)
BU COM (largest school I saw data for) had 15% with 3.53 GPA or higher (30% had 3.39+)
Can't find any data on BC besides their Law school.
But even among New England privates it isn't a 1 to 1 comparison, in case that wasn't already obvious.

Nick is trolling (and he knows it, so this is barely worth responding to).

BU hockey does very well in the NCAA's academic progress scores... in fact better than BC for the past 5 years:

You were almost a 1 to 1 favorite to be the first one to cry about this (Rogie was just slightly less of a favorite). Those bookies know what they're doing!

No, there's definitely no correlation between having a crazy number of arrests/suspensions/removals over the past 11 years and finishing at the bottom of the list almost every year in the All Academic Teams. Definitely just a coincidence.
