Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Search has been over for a while...and then there's the paperwork. Besides we all know who it's going to be: Herb Wakabayashi. Just kidding.:D:D

Its been two weeks since I asked the question - where is the assistant coach announcement?
This is really taking longer than the HC search. Anyone know anything new?

We know it won't be an ex-NHL player with >400 games experience who banked millions, went to a US college, timed the market during the crisis, hasn't gotten divorced, lives near their old college, has no other financial issues, doesn't drink coffee and hates to travel. So you just rule those people out right now!

BUT we also know that there are countless NHL players with college degrees. Not sure if the poster meant countless as in there aren't enough to count.

"Must spread rep"... Well played.

Does anyone else despise the new hockey east playoff format where the top 5 teams all get byes? The biggest reason why players leave college early or choose to not go the college route all together is because there are not enough games for a player's development. Now, the best schools are going to have 2 weeks without a game every year. I know most of the other conferences have a similar format, but it's silly for the BU's and BC's to have that week off every year. Not to mention the 4 weeks off for Xmas break, which is too long. I believe this will be another reason why players' advisors will tell them not to go the college route.

Yes I hate the new format.
And I'm not too fond of the new league either.

You guys got me, your right...Its a simple coincidence that there is not a single retired, full time NHL player serving as a college assistant. There are lots in pro hockey, but none in college---im trying to think of a witty reason for this but there are none... The reason is simple---they have money and dont need to work that hard for low pay...

Shawn McEachern probably left DI hockey to coach at Rivers because he wanted head coaching experience right? Or the small boarding school in New England probably paid him a ton of money in order to bring fans into the games and juice up the athletic departments budget right?

Or---I know this is a crazy thought---the move was not based on money at all and because the Rivers job allows him to have summers off, far less travel than Hockey East, and all in all is an easier job? That is crazy talk...

Honestly, improvements to the beer selection at Agganis should be a secondary concern compared to keeping the taps clean. I'd be perfectly content with the Sam and Harpoon offerings if they didn't taste like the taps had never been cleaned ever. Getting some nice microbrews is pointless if the tap issue isn't fixed first.

Tap cleaning of course is the key issue here.

I could go with some selection changes though. Personally Anchor Steam does not do anything for me and I've never been a fan of the Sam Seasonal.

I wouldn't mind seeing a true "hockey" beer at the arean... perhaps replace the Anchor Steam with Molson Canadian or LaBatt Blue, then do away with the Sam Seasonal in favor of another micro-brew or other "higher end" variety.... Hoegarden or even Harpoon UFO or something along those lines.

It must be a total coincidence that Keith Carney, Mike Grier, Chris Drury, John Leclair, Chris Clark, Todd Krygier, Joe Sacco, Paul Fenton, Mike Sullivan, Bob Brooke, Brian Pothier, Ted Drury, Chris Nilan, Peter Taglianetti, Jay Miller, Shawn Bates, Steve Leach, Chris Terreri, Bob Miller, Tony Amonte, Bill Guerin, Kevin Stevens, Rod Langway, Bob Sweeney, Bob Kudelski, Andy Brickley, Doug Brown, Jeff Norton, Garth Snow, Steve Heinze, Marty McInnis, Brian Berard, and Ted Donato have never been a college hockey assistant... total coincidence... Those guys probably arent qualified...Or does it have to do with not needing to run around the country for little pay? hmmm...

Two full time NHL guys have served as assistants---Shawn McEachern ran to prep school... and Bob Corkum ran a program into the ground because he didnt want to leave Maine and approached the job with a pro mentality...

now back to my original comment---Full time NHL guys do not work out as college hockey assistants...

I bet BU is holding the spot open for Jay Pandolfo---guy must have been through a divorce, didnt invest his money well, loves to for work travel and recruit, and cant get a better paying/easier job elsewhere in hockey---im sure he is knocking at Dave Quinn's door as we speak...

This is awesome. Well done. BTW still no announcement...what the heck!

PETA just called. While they don't generally get involved with animal rights after the creature is already deceased, they would like all of you to stop flogging that dead horse now. Its only been like 3 days already and its starting to attract flies.

The flies laid eggs, the maggots hatched, devoured the body and moved on. Shame dover can't seem to...

If this keeps up one more day I'm going to launch The Nuclear Option. That's right, I will kick off the annual long, boring, tedious conversation about the Agganis Arena seating policy! I have Scarlet on speed dial as we speak... ;)

Is there anything you would change in the seating policy?
