BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

And when I say former NHLers I'm talking about guys who collect a pension from the league--not guys who played a handfull of games. Guys like grier and young don't need the money and thus are not willing to do the work. And the work isn't showing up and running practice---work is getting in your and driving 3 hours each way to watch some 15 year old kid play...some former nhl players try college hockey---but they never stick once they realize what the job actually is...in their heads they think they will stand up at the grease board for 2 or 3 years and then be promoted to head coach...

NHL Totals (games)911 (goals) 256 (assists) 323 -- (points) 579

did you just refer to mceachern as playing "a handful" of games?

Jesus...no...just the opposite...I'm saying FULL TIME nhl players DO NOT work out as college hockey assistants...They do get hired from time to time, but rarely last once they figure out what the job entails...

What I did say is that former nhlers who only play a hand full of games---think Greg Brown---do tend to last because they actually need the job and the income...

In case u didn't notice, mceachern didn't last as a college hockey assistant...the guy didn't make it past year 2 at lowell or northeastern---that is the definition of a guy NOT working out...

Uh oh, rogie's upset about something...

he got another job. he got another one after he left the first school. and when he moved out of being an assistant it was because he got a head coaching job at the rivers school. (where he still works)

do you think these guys are set for life at age 40 and can keep the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed with their pension? really? that they don't have to work anymore? really?

$ucks about Askew, hate this about the recruiting game. Was nice seeing Appert at RPI attack major juniors on twitter this weekend.

Seth Appert ‏@SethAppert 8 Jun

Article has the tweets and comments made by both Seth Appert and Quinnipiac assistant coach Bill Riga (former UML player) who took a shot at Charlie Coyle and Keith Yandle, as well as the QMJHL.[/QUOTE

I don't think Riga is taking a shot at Coyle and Yandle. Pointing out well known facts and making a point that both wanted to go college route but for varying reasons, it did not work out. Q sucks but worked for those 2

The reason he took the job at Rivers is not because it was a promotion. He took the job because he did not want to be an assistant in college hockey anymore. The reason he did not want to be an assistant in college hockey is because he has a family and did not enjoy traveling all over the country recruiting. He makes less money at Rivers than he did as an assistant. That is a fact. Prep school coaches make less than D1 assistants.

So back to my original comment which you insist on arguing about---former NHL players do not work out as college hockey assistants.

Bottom line is that Grier or young will not be hired at BU. Greely is going to be hired. So no matter how much you argue about how NHL guys can work out it will not change the fact that BU IS going to hire greely.

And to another dumb point you made----yes, a guy who has played close to 1000 nhl games should be able to retire comfortably. The Rivers job pays like 75k at best...do I think he really needs that money? No...u think mceachern likes to keep busy----but at the same time likes to be around his family thusngotnout of college and into prep school...hence not working out in college my friend.

I have no idea who BU is hiring for assistant coach... but this really has nothing to do with being a former NHL player.

the dude wants to make a blanket statement that no nhl player will ever "work out" as an assistant... let him.

I'm just pointing out that it hasn't worked thus far...I can't think of a single one, and either can you, or else I'm sure you would have pointed it out...college hockey head coach---yes....assistant---no

I just live in a world of reality---you are the one hoping Grier, Young, or Drury gets hired as an assistant. It's a nice little wish, but it won't happen. Guys like that have tons of money and don't need to go pound the pavement on the recruiting trail....that's what college hockey assistants do.

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

And again---greely is going to be the assistant. I'm not assuming that, it's a fact...just watch...

Supposedly Greeley was offered more than a week ago. And nothing. Why the delay? Kind of concerning.

We had a guy on here saying the AC was definitely going to be Albie O'Connell until he was blue in the face. Turned out Albie was going to stay at Harvard and we haven't heard from that poster since.

I would put my money on that it will be Greeley in the end, but again, why the delay? Too soon to call it fact IMO. I won't call it fact until they announce it. And even then, it can be false! (Ahem, Belichick)

That's fine, I never said he wasn't or that he shouldn't be. I was saying that the reason you gave for mcheacrrn not working out (he has a family) has nothing to do with being a former NHL player.
