Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I've only seen him once, home opener I believe, but I haven't exactly been looking. He was show on the jumbotron with his grandkids that game though and hasn't been featured since, I imagine if he has been to many games since then they would have put him on at least once more.

I've seen him at 2 different games... but I haven't exactly been looking either, nor have I been to all the games, so he may have been at more.

Or as Mayor Menino would say, "jumbletron".

Always like coverage like this, regardless of the team. I remember Gary Thorne did one for Maine back in the Walsh era and there was one for BC following the national title in 2001.

The Behind the B series is pretty great right now. NESN also did a nice small one on BC leading up to one of the previous Beanpots. Must have been 2010 since Cross was the captain and they followed him around. The BC one in 2001 was hilarious, they follow Giuliano to class and there's Troy Bell sleeping on his desk in the front row. Ooooooooops.

The public seems to be into these things between the Hard Knocks NFL, the Winter Classic 24/7 stuff, etc. It's becoming more popular for sure.

He's been at 2 games. Regular season opener vs. UMASS, then the PC game on 11/1. Wouldn't be shocked to see him at least once this weekend and/or at Red Hot Hockey (the latter as part of his job to bring in $$$).

Not watched since they pushed Naoko to the curb

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

So anyone got any thoughts on the North Dakota series? The teams have similar records right now. Both teams have played 6 games against currently ranked opponents. Looks like North Dakota's offense is a little better but the two defenses are pretty similar. Both teams powerplays are around 20%, but North Dakota has an advantage on the PK at 87%. North Dakota's only out of conference games so far were a win and a tie at home vs Vermont. Looks like this should be a pretty close series based on the stats. Of course looking at BU's loss to Maine, who knows if it will be close.

Sometimes penalties just happen though and are not a direct result of stupidity/laziness. They can be a result of being aggressive. Other times, you can take a "good" penalty if it negates a prime scoring chance for the opponent, etc. Sure, there's certainly a fine line, but you don't want to be so scared of taking a penalty that it makes you play timid on the ice.

Agreed 100%. I thought about that when I typed my comment - he even makes a reference in his comment about not being sure if he would take a guy down on a breakaway or something like that. But my thought is it's still a good sign that it's something he's got on his mind.

And really just in general, seeing someone that is so much younger than what we've had, it just seemed to add energy to the environment. I can't point to any specifics, but I get the feeling the team is energized to have Quinn there.

I'm glad both games are on TV, though I'll be there Friday night. I'll be pleased with a split, and I think that's what we'll get.

Funny that the Aucoin reference, and the listing of scorers in that game by Rogie was in another season when we counted on so many freshmen:

Forwards: Thornton, Pomichter, Prendergast, Lilley, Vachon
Defense: Aucoin, Brennan, Linna
Goal: Herlofsky, McKersie

That was a talented bunch. No surprise they won it all as seniors (minus Pomichter, Aucoin, Lilley, and Vachon who left at different stages)

Sure was. Three All-Americans (McKersie, Linna and Pomichter), an extremely clutch and prolific scorer (Prendergast), MVP of the '95 championship team as center between two All-Americans (Thornton) and four who reached the NHL (Aucoin, Brennan, Lilley and Vachon).

Vachon played just one NHL game and is better known for playing the title role in "Clark the Canadian Goalie."

I remember a game at Walter Brown in '91 I think when Linna thought he would lug the puck up ice against Maine on one shift. Bad decision ....got as far as the faceoff dot and Scott Pellerin laid him out on the ice , picked up the puck and promptly deposited it behind McKersie in one motion. Crowd was aghast. :D I loved it.;)

you must not be a Bostonian. We do NOT pronounce an "o" as you have written in lahbstah. I really do not understand why people think that we do. Do we bastardize the "r" ? Of course, but no Bostonian says Bahstin or lahbstah, it's lobstah! AND we pronounce our city correctly, we do not bastardize "Boston" . We don't eff up the O, we eff up the R! Even the frigging coffee commercials on radio, Dunkin's or McD's ,whatevah , where at the end they say "how do you say Connecticut?" is erroneous , when they say kahhfee for coffee, W.T.F. ??? . Who here says that? Geesh!
