BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I don't think emotion is a problem for the team. They seem to give their all, they just don't have the skills.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I thought players like Noonan, O'Regan and Gracelyk would attract but winning also helps too. I'm sure you guys have suggested selling beer at more reasonable prices so that you don't need change, cheaper parking, etc. I had a friend who graduated from BU and said he gave up his 4 season tickets and he works not far from HAA. Although HAA is a nicer rink, I'm happy to go to Conte with cheaper tickets and free parking.

Nothing against Noonan, O'Regan and Gryzlcek, but they will not generate the type of buzz that McEachern, Amonte, Tkachuck, Sacco, etc. did in the early '90's. The earlier players were more talented, and college hockey received more notice at that time. BU, BC and Harvard had strong teams for several years running which built up momentum for the game in the public eye.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

A few weeks back, someone (it may have been hokydad) mentioned something along the lines of "bad news upcoming for BU hockey." I have been away from the boards for a bit. What was the news?

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

As a BU fan and former coach of a few of the current players, and new to posting, I always try to find positives in teams and life. With that, I feel this team has the potential to be just as good as last years team come March.
Last years team after 17 games was 11-6 with 48 goals scored, this years team has a chance to be at 8-7-2 after 17 games. Currently they have 38 goals
with one game remaining to add to the total. After reading many of the posts, I felt obligated to show some hope for the season. Some of the teams in the top 15
have the leading scorer at 15 total points, BU has three players who could be at that mark come Sunday. Just remember come March, most Freshman are no longer playing
like Freshman. Just my take. I enjoy reading the threads and the many opinions.

The most logical conclusion would be something to do with Kurker leaving the program, a STL draft pick hence the arches comment. I have no knowledge of anything, just conjecture.

Geez I'm a dolt. I tried to figure out the Arches comment for longer than I care to admit.

While I hope he is not leaving, it wouldn't be a shock. But hopefully, if he has really been sick, he comes back better and finds his groove. The reality is that jumping to D-1 from high school is virtually impossible these days.

Of course, Hoky said Kurker and Grzylck (sp?) were gone before they even arrived at BU, so ho knows.

FWIW Kurker was at the game on Saturday and at the Friends of Hockey holiday skate on Sunday. Perhaps all of this is merely hoky being hoky...

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I'm interested to see how much value his assistants are adding, especially in practices and behind the scenes. Greeley has limited coaching experience, as most of his background is scouting and player development. Returning to BU gives him the chance to cut his teeth at the coaching level, but to me he still appears very "green" on the coaching side and his primary focus appears to be recruiting.

I've made my opinions known about Powers, with the only addition being I'm very surprised he stayed on.

I've long believed that any great coach, in any sport, also needs strong assistants to succeed.

I was a little surprised that Buddy Powers stayed on, especially with the word that he had purchased a new home back at Bowling Green. But he had worked with Quinn in the past, and it isn't a bad thing to have someone with his head coaching background during the transition.

Good to see Pertti Hasanen taking more of a role, too.

When the next opening happens, I hope that Mike Grier is a prime target. He'd be a great addition, IMO.

The recruiting appears to be going very well. And it is much needed.

TOYS FOR TICKETS

"The Terriers are helping to collect toys for kids this holiday season. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Agganis Arena Ticket Office and get up to 4 tickets for Saturday's men's hockey game vs. Bentley for just $15!"

Bentley should be sky-high for this game, since a lot of college hockey fans in Greater Boston barely even know that they exist. But ask Northeastern if they can play.

BU had better not take them lightly.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I've said this before, but the recruiting has always gone well. You always get very good recruits. It's not like Quinn recruited Eichel.

I disagree a bit on this. There was always the theory that the recruits were good but the constipated offensive style was killing their development. Some of that might be true, but there were also years where the entire incoming class had very little in the way of talent. For BU's freshman, I'm not seeing much out of any of them. For sophomores, O'Regan I suppose but he needs to pick it up as he's not playing at the level he did last year. For non-goalies, that's it for that class as well. Now its still early, and Oksanen and Gretzky could turn out to be great players, but the jury is still out. By this time in their careers (the sophomores) , we already knew what we had with Wilson, Yip, Bonino, etc.

Freshmen - you're not watching the games if you don't see much out of Baillargeon, Roberto and Somerby.
Sophomores - Danny O'Regan, Matt Lane has made heck of an improvement, Grzelcyk has taken step back admittedly, Aksanen is good offensively, not as much in D zone.
Juniors - Rodrigues taken a step back this year, Hohmann was playing fine before injury.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

I've heard from some that Kurker may actually have mono, which if true would explain his prolonged absence. Takes forever to recover and get back to game strength from that.

Sparky I am watching the games, and you and I clearly have a different expectation for what constitutes a good player. The freshman have shown little. Ballargeon, Roberto, Somerby = potential who haven't actually accomplished much while playing the game thus far. We're getting outshot like crazy against any decent team and the only reason we're not worse than .500 is the stellar play of the goaltenders. O'Regan has taken a step back. Are you confusing BU with another team? Oksanen is awful in his own zone which far outweighs any offensive prowess you think he has. Last game I think I saw him trip over the red line for chrissakes.

The Toys for Tots is a great cause… but doesn't it seem like tickets for this game should be $15.00 to begin with?

I agree… hope we do not take them lightly.

I am looking forward to seeing a team I have never seen play before.

Re: BU 2013-2014: Ready to Quinn

Bentley is 5-0-1 in their last 6 games. Looking at their schedule, they are not getting blown out in their OOC games against better teams.

This game has trap written all over it.
