Effort for the Huskies is definitely the key.

Fantastic that BSU plays SCSU in football this week too. While I can't make it Friday, I'll be driving down for a full day of football and hockey on Sat. I don't know how realistic it is to see if the NSIC and WCHA could co-ordinate these things more often, but what a selling point for fans...

If the huskies play like they did the first 5 periods last weekend the Beavers will sweep.

Yeah, I won't be able to go to or listen to the games on the radio for the same reason this weekend. Will have to hope for the spotty cell coverage to work enough to allow me to check the scores in the morning before head out to the woods.

First road series of the year for the Beavers (after only 4 games total) and it is onto Olympic Ice no-less. BSU's defense held a UMD team that was averaging 5 goals a game to 4 for the weekend (3-2 L and a 1-1 tie). The defense and goaltending is there, now if BSU can just start finding the net. So many odd man rushes against UMD last weekend and then fanning on shots towards an open net or just plain missing the open net........

Beavers looked very good against Duluth except the first 10 minutes on Friday night. If we play like we did the other 110 minutes we should compete well.

The Gophers still have work to do, but lack of effort hasn't been visible the past 3 games.

I wrote questions for Motzko for the show on Monday. I think he got the message, so this weekend we will see less shots on shin and more shots on goal, quicker and better passing, better D and much more scoring. Yes, we need to score with the Beavers! Hopefully our Huskies come on top.

So, it looks like this week's football game between St. Cloud and Bemidji could really make the NSIC's Mineral Water Bowl bid interesting if Bemidji would win...
Currently, the NSIC standings are, with two weeks to go:
3. St. Cloud State (7-2, 7-1)
4. Bemidji State (6-3, 5-3)
4. Concordia-St. Paul (6-3, 5-3)
4. Winona State (6-3, 5-3)
Head to head tiebreakers as of right now:
Winona: H2H over CSP (did not play Bemidji)
BSU: No H2H, but has SCSU coming up and needs the win to get one H2H
SCSU: H2H over Winona and Concordia with Bemidji coming up.

No deal. The way our football team has played this year, it has been a disappointing season. The hockey season is still young, so there is still hope!

St. Cloud still has a shot at the playoffs yet. They would need to win out, and maybe get some help from some of the other teams with a prayer yet taking one on the chin in the next two weeks. A Ferris St. win against MTU would be the biggest help right now I believe.
Yeah, I just noticed that myself.... Very cool for that to work out.

As you would expect, I noticed pretty early. I know of a few folks that will be down for the double, and several of those wouldn't be doing the football if not for the hockey, so like I said, I think it would pay off for the leagues to work together...
