Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Re: Brown Hockey 2014-2015 - Onward and Upward

Sullivan writes this about the Q game in his weekly picks-

"Bruno has given the Bobcats fits in the past – then again, Brown has frustrated everyone at one point or another..."

I'm wondering why he didn't clarify that most of the frustration is inflicted upon its own fanbase! ;)

What a strange season. For the better part of 3.5 months, the offense, defense, goaltending, and special teams were all atrocious. Now they're all clicking. It's a complete 360; the team just stopped on a dime and realized it's actually pretty good.

I'm certainly not ready to say with any confidence that we'll win any of our remaining three games- it's possible we could take six points, but we could also take zero. Cautious optimism for me right now. But the way they've been playing of late is REALLY encouraging.

Never bet on Brown in the regular season, but never bet against them in the playoffs.

Ernst has really looked good in net since taking over. He should have had another shutout last night.

Before the Union game pre-game warm-ups started, I was watching Tim working out in a hallway with his rubberball against a wall. Total intensity and focus. During the game when he was defending goal in front of me he showed that same gameface. This kid with the game confidence he is getting with every game is for real. All he need ed was more consecutive playing time.

Told you guys that Ernst was good. No doubt in my mind after seeing him that he's very solid.

Good luck tonight. We have a very slim chance of catching Q-tip but a Brown win tonight keeps hope alive as long as we also win. Why is Tim Lappin not playing? Ran into his father a few weeks ago in the Boston airport and it doesn't sound like he is hurt?

Not sure. He has played well but right now with brown's third and fourth lines playing well it seems like Coach Whittet simply doesn't want to make any changes.

As usual Bruno gave us fits. Definitely a different team than the one we faced at Meehan.

It's too bad we couldn't hold the lead, but that's the mark of a young team running into the best team in the conference.

Really excited for next weekend's games, and the playoffs. I'm really hoping we get Harvard, so I can go!

Peca gets my MVP vote. He was all over the ice last night. Didn't see Pecknold's reaction to diving call. I'm sure he gave it to McDonald.

He'll be a big loss to this team, that's for sure.

Actually, he didn't do much at the time. It looked like he had words for ol' Chip after the game however.

The team has improved in all facets of the game but the play of Ernst has made the biggest difference in my opinion. He has been stellar during this stretch.

I was wondering the same thing about the younger Lappin. It must be one of those "if it aint broke dont fix it" situations as statistically speaking, he is our 5th highest scoring forward per game and always seemed to play with energy the times I saw him play.

If there is one thing that worries me however, it is the power play. After a 4 game stretch were we scored 1 PP goal per game and looked to be improving, we have now gone 0-9 the last 4 with a 5 minute major in the mix and look to be regressing. Short handled goals, too many men on the ice, offside, etc during the PP shouldn't be happening this late in the season. We've also not found a way to score the big PP goal all year. Whether the opportunity to tie or ice the game, we've come up short every time. With the team finally finding their stride, special teams will be the difference between a short playoff stint or extending the season.

I really hope we (SLU) don't have to see you guys in the quarters. The thought of having to beat Bruno 4 times in a season scares the daylights out of me.

Take your pick. There are no bad teams. If we don't win a trip to LP, it'll be our fault (or the refs)! The latter is a scarier prospect to me. Stunned by the non-calls against Dartmouth last night. Glad it didn't matter, although their first goal being very obviously offsides didn't help.
