Brown Wins!
Re: Brown Hockey 2011-2012 - The Future Is Now
I agree with your thoughts. My main concern is D. While Wahl and Robertson are as you say a solid pair, they need help. Perhaps Crowley is ready to take the next step but not sure about the others. While Quick and DeCon show promise, can they help on a regular basis? One incoming D has a solid junior background. Goalie will be the real issue. Maybe Roy can perform like the last goalie named Roy from Montreal.
Also, well said, froze. I think next year will be the year where we finally don't have to rely on one player, as we have for the past three seasons (first Volpatti, then Harry Z, then Jack Mac). We don't seem to have any true stars who are going to carry the team, so hopefully we'll learn to play as a cohesive unit, and Whittet won't have to play his top two lines 75% of the game.
As for goaltending- boy, it doesn't look good. Marco had some good moments in his first few games, but he was simply awful down the stretch, and (correct me if I'm wrong) had to be replaced by Clemente in the last three games he started. Hopefully he can continue to develop and can be more consistent, because he sure has some talent. I don't know anything about the recruiting class, but I would expect that our next starting goalie is included.
I think next year will be more successful. We won't have a lot of senior leadership (the senior class is the awkward one between Grillo being fired and Whittet being hired), as only Zaires and Crowley have earned consistent minutes over their careers. However, Wahl and Robertson is one of the best defensive pairings in the league, and the likes of Hathaway and Juola will have to take on bigger roles as juniors. The very promising current freshman class should improve as well.
All in all, this was a frustrating season. We took a step back instead of progressing. All we can do now is look forward to next year.
