I don't know anything about the recruiting class, but I would expect that our next starting goalie is included.

I think next year will be more successful. We won't have a lot of senior leadership (the senior class is the awkward one between Grillo being fired and Whittet being hired), as only Zaires and Crowley have earned consistent minutes over their careers. However, Wahl and Robertson is one of the best defensive pairings in the league, and the likes of Hathaway and Juola will have to take on bigger roles as juniors. The very promising current freshman class should improve as well.

All in all, this was a frustrating season. We took a step back instead of progressing. All we can do now is look forward to next year.

I agree with your thoughts. My main concern is D. While Wahl and Robertson are as you say a solid pair, they need help. Perhaps Crowley is ready to take the next step but not sure about the others. While Quick and DeCon show promise, can they help on a regular basis? One incoming D has a solid junior background. Goalie will be the real issue. Maybe Roy can perform like the last goalie named Roy from Montreal.

I think/hope that between the three Freshmen D who all showed promise at times (but nothing like last year's pair of Wahl and Robertson) plus Crowley fitting in, that Brown will have a really solid top four D.

Goal is going to be a big issue. If DiFillippo can build on the good outings he had and become consistent next year (consitency that mostly escaped Clemente), then it could be a good year on the back end. I have not seen Borelli play, but based on his playing time to date, he would have to improve a lot even to play back-up. Roy would have to elevate his game several notches to compete at the NCAA level - while he is definitely a "package deal" with his brother, he obviously has abilities and you never know when somebody like that is going to burst through.

For next year, I think Brown will have 3-4 all-league forwards, 2-3 all-league defence, and a real unknown set of goalies. Could be a good year. Could be a bad year.

Looks like Roy is a real talent! However, shootout moves don't necessarily make a great overall player, so here's to hoping he isn't a one-trick pony.

He isn't. I'm a Lincoln Stars ticket holder, and I run a blog devoted to the team. I've Roy in person at least 30 times this season.

Best offensive talent I've seen in Lincoln probably ever. Great hands. Goal scorer first, but can dish the puck very well too. His play away from the puck has improved ten-fold since the beginning of the season. Back then he used to float in the neutral zone, and wouldn't backcheck that much. But he plays a two-way game now.

Best attribute in my opinion is his hockey smarts. He just knows the right place to be in the right time. Brown is getting a very dynamic player.

I saw that a couple days ago, great news for him! Nashville has great defense and goaltending, but their offense is kind of lackluster, so hopefully he gets a shot.

Was listening to the Hartford Whale game on the road tonight and was surprised to hear Clemente in goal for Springfield tonight. He shut out the Whale tonight and only allowed one goal in his previous start. 2-0 start at Springfield for him. The announcers stated that he was not really challenged this evening but stopped all that came his way.

Kevin Roy and his family gave their word to Brown. Hopefully that was a commitment. But Roy could still change his mind and go somewhere else -- another university in the US or major junior in Canada.

Thanks for the clarification. Hopefully he doesn't reconsider.

Also, I find it funny that Union lost 7 games all season, and 2 of them were to us. We beat the overall number 3 seed in the tournament twice, and we still finished last in our conference.

The two games against Union, the game at UNH, and the home game against Cornell were excellent indicators of how much this program has progressed. Unfortunately, most of the other games showed that the pieces of the puzzle weren't all there yet.

But, in addition to a strong recruiting class, there are many positive signs. Dennis Robertson was outstanding in the first playoff game against Quinnipiac -- a brilliant, All-American kind of performance both at offense and defense, which fulfilled the promise he showed during his first year. Matt Lorito's potential is unlimited. The subtletly of his game is sometimes uncanny. Ryan Jacobson is a sniper, with the potential to become a twenty-goal scorer. Matt Wahl isn't flashy but the void he left when he went down with a concussion was obvious. Hopefully he has fully recovered. Kyle Quick has terrific skills and lots of hockey sense (though he needs to bulk up), and could become a real asset on the power play.

And last, but definitely not least, Brown has an outstanding coaching staff, who is not only knowledgeable about the game but also has an excellent understanding of and respect for our institution.
