Sympathy, of course, to his family and friends. Nothing in their lives could have prepared them for his criminal activities. And though she's probably suffering about as much as anyone, this is really a blessing for his fiancee. She came this close to marrying that sick twitch. Imagine her testifying at his trial (shiver). And hearing the details of his crimes and degenerate behavior.

Markoff reminded me of another charming, handsome, articulate sociopath: Ted Bundy. Thankfully neither is breathing my air and drinking my water anymore.

I'm surprised she made it out of the hospital the first time.

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Bobby Thomson-was age 86. My earliest baseball memory is the announcer screaming "The Giants Win The Pennant" over and over again. And seeing Eddie Stanky climb all over Leo Durocher. RIP Bobby!

My mother told me numerous times that I, age 3 at the time, was on her lap when he hit the HR. She told me that I should remember it -- I didn't.

Thankfully, she didn't jump up. :D

Were you living in Brooklyn or NYC at the time? I would assume the reactions were 180 degrees apart.

I would point out that every History test should allow two correct answers to what was "The Shot Heard 'Round the World." My nun was not a baseball fan. :(

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

A good book about Thomson's home run and how it affected him and Branca: The Echoing Green by Joshua Prager.

Thomson is remembered in Milwaukee as the guy who broke his ankle in 1954 Spring Training, which opened the door for some rookie named Henry Aaron to make the Braves. :)

Ironically, Russ Hodges' scintillating call of the homer was only preserved because some kid recorded the end of the game at home. There were several other bigger name broadcasters covering the game nationally. Most of America never heard Hodges' call 'til after the fact.

You learn more here by accident.....
Thanks for that nugget.

Ernie Harwell did the TV broadcast that day.
