Strangly on the same day; Eleanor Mondale, daughter Vice President Walter Mondale, has died of brain cancer.

The trifecta of politically-related deaths is complete

'Fervently Moderate' Former Sen. Percy Dies At 91

Former Illinois Sen. Charles H. Percy, a successful Chicago businessman once widely viewed as a top presidential contender, described himself as "a conservative on money issues but a liberal on people issues."

That unwavering commitment to moderate values often put the former Foreign Relations Committee chairman at odds with conservatives in the Republican party, including former President Richard Nixon, but that didn't deter him in the nearly 20 years he represented Illinois in the Senate.

Percy sponsored a resolution calling for a special prosecutor in the Watergate scandal and became a critic of the Vietnam War.

He died Saturday in Washington at 91.

Percy's daughter, Sharon Rockefeller, announced in March 2009 that he had Alzheimer's disease. His death was announced by the office of his son-in-law, West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller.

Chuck Percy got a good start in life by marrying the daughter of the CEO of Bell and Howell. He became CEO himself at 29. His other daughter (they were twins) was murdered in their palatial home in '66 and the case is still unsolved.

And he had one of the great political lines of all time, with Mayor Daley in charge, he said: "When the head nods in Chicago, the tail wags in Springfield.":

That's awesome, right up there with LA Governor Edwin Edwards'; "The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy."

I'd have to give the nod to Edwards. Plus he gave rise to the greatest bumper sticker ever: "Vote for the crook. It's important." Ya gotta love LA.

Former Providence College basketball coach, Big East founding commissioner, basketball legend, Dave Gavitt.

It was very classy of Pitt and Syracuse to wait almost 24 hours after he died to tear the league apart.

Kitten's??

Little furballs that see humans only as a means to get food. If they could figure out how to use a can opener they wouldn't have any use for us at all!

I feel bad for Old Pio...his age is showing. He's trying to be all hip and call me by my street name, but he is misspelling it. It's P-Less.

Or he's showing how mature he is by using puerile names. One or the other.

Frances Bay, known as the woman who fights Jerry Seinfeld over the loaf of marble rye. She was 92. I believe she was also in Happy Gilmore.
