Shoot. My numbers are off, but the scenario is right: Should've shorted the < bleep > out of the market late Thursday and bought back in at Monday's close.

It would've been money on the way down; money on the way up. Missed it. < #$%*&#$% !!!! >

Scotland still might veto this whole thing. The parliament still have to give their permission and considering 62% of the country voted to remain in the EU I can't imagine they'll give it willingly. More than likely as a concession for Scotland giving its OK the country will either
1) Break away entirely from the UK and ask the EU to keep them or
2) Get a referendum to do the above.

Northern Ireland doesn't have the same rights as Scotland (go figure) and the vote was closer (56-44) so it isn't clear if they would want to break away from the UK or not.

The Labour Party just passed a motion of no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn 172-40. He says he will not resign and "betray the people" who elected him. He was elected with 60% of the vote.

Meanwhile, the EU wants England the GTFO now.

The European Parliament called on Britain on Tuesday to hurry up and leave the European Union after a stormy and ill-tempered debate.

A majority of lawmakers voted in an emergency session to approve a nonbinding resolution that asks Britain to set the clock ticking “as soon as possible” on a legal process that could lead to a withdrawal from the European Union in two years. (An earlier draft of the resolution had called on Britain to invoke the legal process “immediately.”)

In contrast, lawmakers gave a standing ovation for Alyn Smith, a member of the European Parliament from Scotland, which voted overwhelmingly to stay in the European Union. “We will need cool heads and warm hearts, but please remember this: Scotland did not let you down,” Mr. Smith said to cheers and applause. “Do not let Scotland down now.”

I'll be heading to Scotland in September, so I'm planning on picking up a few hundred pounds while the market is still good for the US. With a fairly non-existent exchange fee, and the fact I'll be spending most of my time in the highlands, I'm guessing I'll end up using cash more than a debit or credit card.

So folks are thinking the Brexit is the biggest story coming out of this if things unfold they way they appear. Its not. The dissolution of the EU as we know it is...

First, I would imagine the dutch and Belgians vote for a full on integration, but do the French and German people? So say that happens then what?

Think the B1G hockey conference formation...what happened next. The NCHC formed. They cherry picked teams (in their own minds if nothing else) from across the country and formulated what they thought was the best conference of the rest. Does the UK, Scandinavia and the best of the rest look to formulate its own alternative to the new EU? The issue there, is Scandinavia just doesn't have that many people...and even then, I don't know if Norway joins (too rich, too independent). Do eastern European countries create their own trading block. Not so sure that if I'm Poland, I want to tie my wagon to Serbia.

So in the end, if the EU does manage to make a tight superstate...there should be a number of countries that will be very, very interested. But again, can they get it past the people. Regardless, Europe will be radically different starting today.

So, if I understand what you are saying, in 3-4 years there are going to be a bunch of Luxembourg Huskies fans sitting around whining about France and Germany, claiming that they could have had a perfectly acceptable EU after England left if France and Germany were only willing to carry Luxembourg, Greece and the rest of the group???

They want independence, not some super state. That's what the vote was all about. Rejection of the Fourth Reich, as it were.

I don't see why you'd align yourself with Britain instead of Germany economically unless you're worried that Flaggy is right and this is all some secret plot for resurgent national socialists to launch WWIII! :eek:

Britain's whole economy is based on speculative finance and real estate. Its manufacturing sector is gone and the North Sea oil is drying up. Furthermore once Scotland ditches it'll be a lot smaller country dealing with bitter internal strife. Likewise leaving the EU for an Eastern European block of poor and struggling countries under the constant threat of Russian aggression isn't conducive of success either.

Like it or not the EU is the best bet.

Pull out the Scotland (and Ireland too ... maybe) votes, what do the votes look like?

I know the overall was 52/48 but that Scotland and Ireland were the other way. Would there really be this projected England internal strife?

So far what the EU has proven is common monetary policy is impossible without common fiscal policy. They have one foot on either side of a widening crack in the ice, and they are going to have to jump either one way or the other or drown.

53.3/46.7 including everyone but N. Ireland and Scotland.
London was 59.9/40.1 stay so could be huge internal strife between London and rest of England

This doesn't give the rollup totals by country but I eyeball it at about 55/45 in England. It was 53/47 in Wales.

Edit: by Shirtless' numbers it looks like I way underestimated how much of the England population is in London.

The Asiatics kicked the white man out of Asia about 20 years ago. Now 71 years after, Germany will dominate Europe!

France will roll over, Benelux will be overrun, Italy will muddle and then collapse, Greece will resist and then surrender, the Danes will be done, Scandinavia will straddle the fence. Poland and Eastern Europe may look at Czar Vlad and decide that a union of the Slavs may be a good idea.

All because a bunch of bureaucrats overreached and ticked off the Brits.
