Re: Bracketology

While I don't see it happening, does Yale really drop that far (currently 8th in PWR) that they could realistically not make the NCAAs with a loss tonight. Would seem to me likely around 10-12th in PWR with loss, and while certainly other upsets could make 10-12 in PWR no guarantee for making NCAAs, would seem pretty unlikely.

Not the exact situation, but did you see how far Michigan State fell after their loss last night?

Re: Bracketology

The brackets:

Code:
[B]Albany Worcester Fort Wayne	St. Paul[/B]
Denver Boston College Miami Wisconsin
Yale North Dakota Bemidji State	St. Cloud
Ferris St NMU Cornell UNH
Huntsville Alaska AHA Champ	Vermont

Would not be surprised to see both BSU and UAH in Fort Wayne and the AHA Champion in Albany instead. Better for attendance and the CHA 2 bid complainers would be satisfied. Most conferences would be upset if they only had two teams and they ended up in the same bracket. This would actually be pretty decent and the CCHA would have to face their "reject." Would be great for the game.

Re: Bracketology

Does anyone else think it is stupid that a confrence with only 4 teams (CHA) gets an auto bid. Now they are going to have 2 team in the NCAA tourney and all one had to do is win 2 games against 2 under .500 teams

No, no one thinks that, and no one has brought it up 1245 times in this thread

Hindsight does not count. At the start of the season there was no issue. The tourney winner gets a free ride to the dance. Now that BSU is in by playing good and beating quality opponents they earned their way into the tournament.
Changing the rules or complaining about them at the end is silly.

I am happy for UAH. This gives them a lift for next season since they are going to be an independant. I hope they make some noise and throw some mud in CCHA's face.

One more thing... Why are people so unhappy when a cinderella makes it into the tourney? I would think that it is a good thing.

Agreed.

I don't want to hear about #15 getting shut out of the postseason, or #14 if there's another conference upset. Every team had 34 games, plus the postseason to do something about being #15 in the PWR, and every team had the opportunity to play themselves into a position to get their conference's AQ. Don't like it? Don't put yourself in that position. You've had ~ 5 months to do something about your ranking. We knew about the AQ's and the possibilities long before the season started. No crying allowed now.

My team sits tied for 9th at the moment, but a bad weekend next weekend in Detroit could very well put my team in that #15 spot, leaving us out of the postseason. If that happens I will come right back to the above paragraph. You will NOT hear me *****ing. My opinion will not change.

Re: Bracketology

OK, enough of the UAH should not be in crap! This is the Bracketology thread and Priceless will be disappointed in us:D

Sorry for the Hijacking of the thread Priceless. Now back to Hockey East teams complaining about the TUC line (hello BC)... kidding :D

In addition the autobid for CHA and Atlantic Hockey was a concession for the tournament to go to 16 teams. Were it not for those two autobids, there wouldn't even be any discussion about #13 and #14.

Re: Bracketology

The updated PWR

1 Denver U (WC)

Teams in italics have already clinched a berth.

The brackets:

Code:
[B]Albany Worcester Fort Wayne	St. Paul[/B]
Denver Boston College Miami Wisconsin
Yale North Dakota Bemidji State	St. Cloud
Ferris St NMU Cornell UNH

The TUC line:
Code:
21	[B]NE-Omaha	0.5206[/B]
22	Union 0.5200
23	Maine 0.5181

Priceless - Do you see a scenario where Bemidji State might still be seeded in St. Paul, and if so what would it take?

Seeded? Every team is seeded. If you mean the #1 seed, no. If you're not the #1 seed, where you end up is a function of what #1 seed you end up with. If Bemidji ends up in a bracket with Denver, Wisconsin, North Dakota, or St. Cloud State as a #1 seed, there's a possibility of being placed in St. Paul. If they're in a bracket with Miami or Boston College as a #1 seed, they won't be.

Re: Bracketology

Yale could very easily miss the NCAA if they loss tonight. Northern, Duluth, Ferris, New Hampshire, Vermont and Cornell would have a chance to pass them, plus any upsets in championship games could lower the cut line and Yale (or UNH) could be on the outside looking in. It's still possible that both the ECAC and Hockey East regular season champs could miss the field.

Re: Bracketology

What if instead of moving Denver to Albany, they kept them in St. Paul, and swapped 6 St. Cloud with 8 Yale.

That would leave you with
Den, SCSU, Ferris, and UAH in St. Paul
Miami, Bemidji, Cornell, and RIT/AHA Champ in Fort Wayne
WI, Yale, NH, Vermont in Albany
BC, ND, No Mich, Alaska in Worcester

That keeps Denver closest to home, and should bring a reasonable attendance to St. Paul, with St. Cloud there. Its not as good as if Wisconsin was there, but it would still be ok, as some Denver and maybe some Ferris fans could make the trip.

However, it would make Albany much stronger. Instead of only relying on Yale to pull a crowd, you've now got 3 eastern teams there.

There is no "closest to home" advantage for Denver going to St. Paul whatsoever. Denver fans need to fly no matter what, and facing St. Cloud, a league rival near their home city is a tough draw. Most Denver fans would probably rather fly to Worcester or Albany so as not to have to face a WCHA team in the regionals.

Puck Swami, as usual, is right on the button here. People continue to forget that the other usual codicil with the #1 overall seed is protecting them from a hostile environment for their first game (second one, not as much). Since there isn't anywhere that Denver can be sent that puts them "close to home," having to be in an arena with, potentially, SCSU or Bemidji waiting in the wings, it's a double benefit to have Denver on the east coast, since they are going to end up flying anyway and there's much less of a chance of facing a hostile environment there.
