Re: Bracketology

How solid is UNH's footing if they win tomorrow night (which I'm not counting on, that's for dang sure)

If they win tonight, UNH is very close to clinching a berth. Even with a semifinal loss, they would be around 11th.

Again, this all depends on how other games play out...

Re: Bracketology

If Michigan works their way up to a 4-seed, any chance the committee trades their hordes for Miami's in Fort Wayne, or will they actually follow thier guidance about placing the 1's in their closest regional?

Ideal scenario is probably to have Michigan there as a 3 with Miami.

Re: Bracketology

Would vermont have to win out completely to get in? Or would a trip to the hockey east finals be enough? (saying they get that far)

Re: Bracketology

Not sure if you are "beetching" or just noting that there will be "beetching" by others.

Regardless, I think this is great.......great for college hockey and potential schools that may consider adding a DI program and great for UAH.

Fans of the Big 4 conferences are routinley blasting the CHA and yet, there teams prove to be competitive with many of the teams in your "elite" conferences.

Yes, I am a UAH alum and former player from back in the initial run at DI so perhaps biased. However, they have earned their right to a bid to the tourney and Bemidji clearly deserves an at large bid.

For those "elitist" Big Four fans.... one of your teams will now be bumped out of the tourney which I am sure is a hard pill to swallow, but not to worry, the "elitist" approach to denying UAH a conference and the pressures that have caused the CHA to be no longer mean this will be the last year that this can happen. Hey, if your lucky...... that mindset may just result in some teams folding and then the tourney can go back to just twelve teams...... then there will be even more "beetching"!!!

Go Chargers!!!

UAH has been through a lot this year, and they got the job done anyway by winning the autobid. They fully deserve their NCAA berth, and as long as they aren't playing Denver, I will be cheering for them, too.

If Michigan wins out, I'm pretty sure they could tease the numbers in such a way that they could get Michigan in Fort Wayne. Gotta remember that the committee probably would like to see Michigan make it to Ford Field to help with ticket sales.

If DU and UAH do face off, can I meet you after the game and buy you a beer? You've always been nice to us. :)

Re: Bracketology

There are a few reasons.
Flights - Denver is getting on a plane, and as far as the NCAA is concerned, it doesn't matter where that plane lands.
The committee won't say this, but it would be nice to get an ECAC team in Albany. The 1/8 bracket does this.
Tickets aren't a primary concern, but attendance is going to suck in either St. Paul, Albany or both. Wisconsin's pod can save St. Paul but if you switch them, both sites will be wastelands. One quick fix is to flip UNH for Ferris State, but they'd only do this if they were really concerned about attendance and history shows us they are not.

That would all depend on which ECAC team it is. If it's someone like Yale then they won't give a crap since Yale can't bring fans. If it's Cornell... the NCAA will do what they can to get them to Albany.

I think HE resets so BC would be 1 and UVM 4 IF UVM wins. So another win against BC should get them high enough barring some very unlikely outcomes in the other conferences.

That said SLU or Union could make it 3 ECAC's which could put the line to 13. SLU is my pick for the team to upset the status quo.

Vermont is not eliminated even if they lose tonight.

Re: Bracketology

What scenario keeps them in ? The cutoff is 14 now. Looking at who is left out there it's a fine line.

It's a fine line, but they can still get in. It isn't likely, but they are not completely eliminated. Same for Alaska, even though they're done.

Once the PWR predictor becomes active tomorrow it will be much easier because all games can be simulated, not just a handful.

Re: Bracketology

Teams that can be eliminated tonight:

Ohio State
Brown
Mankato
Minnesota

In addition, the loser between

Merrimack-BU
Lowell-Maine
Quinnipiac-Union
CC-UMD

Teams that are alive even with a loss tonight:

Miami
North Dakota
St. Cloud

New Hampshire
Vermont
Yale

The first three have already secured berths. Vermont would take a miracle, but technically not eliminated.

Teams that are finished and still alive:

BSU (they have clinched)
Alaska

Thanks for the update... and I would prefer to not have to rely on a miracle;)

While I don't see it happening, does Yale really drop that far (currently 8th in PWR) that they could realistically not make the NCAAs with a loss tonight. Would seem to me likely around 10-12th in PWR with loss, and while certainly other upsets could make 10-12 in PWR no guarantee for making NCAAs, would seem pretty unlikely.
