Bracketology 1.1 - before the conference tournaments. Don't be upset

Re: Bracketology 1.1 - before the conference tournaments. Don't be upset

Mathieu Webb has a wonderful rant about the NCAA in his latest column, "Tournament Selections Explained". Pretty much sums up all we've been b****** about here, but much more eloquently than we can!

I will gladly sign on to all of his rant, and would add the whole lack of clarity about how the Frozen Four host will be decided to the list of Mickey Mouse policies of this Mickey Mouse enterprise. The NCAA owes it to the teams and the fans to be clear about how a host will be determined. Burying it in single sentence in a document from two years ago, and then issuing contradictory guidance since then, is anything but clear. I know there are people on this board who have heard the policy first hand from people in the know, but the rest of us shouldn’t have to rely on second hand information to know what’s going on.

But even then, it wouldn't surprise me if those people like myself are made to look like fools when they decide to do something completely different...

So if for some outside chance Augsburg, Trinity , UMASS Boston and Hobart make it to the final four...Hobart gets to host in the Cooler...right?

Oh, how I would love to see it. Just for the absurdity of it!!!!

Re: Bracketology 1.1 - before the conference tournaments. Don't be upset

Question, how many fans attended the Championship game last year in Lake Placid? Answer 1,830. What is the average championship attendance over the last ten years? Would only 800 seats, 200 less than 1,000 really be that much of an issue?

But 800 seats is 1030 less that 1830. That's a lot.

The NCAA prefers a capacity of 1,000 for the Finals site. Having been to many games and skated there many times Augsburg would be a very good site for the finals. It is plenty warm and there is plenty of space for locker rooms, etc. With three eastern teams that no one cares about Augsburg would be a perfect finals site. How many eastern fans would actually bother to come?

800 seats is 2,200 less than the Marano Campus Center in Oswego, 2,200 less than the Kreitzberg in Norwich and, 1,700 less than The Ira in Geneseo. If those 3 eastern teams make it, you don’t have enough seats. Period.

Kreitzberg technically only has 700 more seats than that and then standing room capacity is around 2200. Although everyone around Norwich will tell you there were around 3000 or more people there for the 2003 final against Oswego.

Well, the last time two SUNYAC teams made the semifinals, they both crapped out. So, I already got my comeuppance.

and........the last time two SUNYAC teams made the finals (against each other that is), somehow neither one of them won (on paper:))

I know! Maybe that's why it has never happened again. They've been cursed...

There have been 3000 people at Krietzberg on a few occasions, I've been there. The "railbirds" came early and staked out their positions. With the addition of Doyle Hall and restrictions on standing in the areas that lead to that area, you probably couldn't get that many in now. It was challenging with those crowds to get to the concession line for the pizza.

Russell you are alluding to the final game for the Championship in 1987, Oswego vs Plattsburgh. I was there . Oswego best Minnesota St Cloud the night before. Herb Brooks had come back to collegiate hockey in Minnesota. Oswego won that game handily but got beat quite badly the next night by Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh with the Championship, but later down the road the NCAA pulls the Championship and the trophy because there was I believe five ineligible players on the team. We argued much over the years that Oswego should have been given the trophy, I still feel that way

If teams can hand out scholarships and keep their National Championship, then no...Oswego shouldn't have been "given" the trophy...
