Boy Stuck In Balloon

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

I wonder what the cost/hour for a helicopter would be ... Maybe they should go to "the Chair" just for being on some reality TV show. :D

That would make a great reality show. They strap somebody in, and the audience has a secret vote for whether to turn the juice on. In the last frame, they pull the lever...

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

I hope the news stations that put the helicopters up sue the family for the costs of doing so. I also hope the state law enforcement sues the family to recover the costs. I imagine those would be hard lawsuits to win though.

The news stations? Really? If some paparazzi tripped over a curb while chasing you for a photo, then it turned out you aren't Elvis after all, should he be able to sue you for not being newsworthy?
The law enforcement, I can understand.

It was the choice of the news stations to be there.

Ef the ambulance chasers. They're only bummed they didn't get to see the kid fall out for real.

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

At least 1 Denver station was working with police as far as their helicopter goes. There was an interview this morning with someone from the CO National Guard and he was asked about the cost and the response was something like "The training it provided was worth it."

I used to fly in one for a news station that loved to use it. Once was sent for a house fire, nothing was going on, flew back and landed and I asked the pilot how much that cost. He said, "Oh about a $1,000." Once they've paid for it, they may as well use it was the owner's theory.

that doesn't necessarily surprise me... an event like this teaches you that you'll be called upon to do things that require flexibility and/or no preparation.

The other issue is that you don't want to give off the impression that you won't be there for people in case of future events. Things like this family sends off that whole "crying wolf" issue.

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

I hope the state and/or feds send the family a nice fat bill for all of the money wasted on this stunt.

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

Saw this in an AP article:

It was not the first time someone from the Heenes’ home has dialed 911. A Colorado sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 hang-up in February at the home, hearing a man yelling and noticing Mayumi Heene had a mark on her cheek and broken blood vessels in her left eye. She said it was because of a problem with her contacts.
A problem with her contacts? That's a new one. Yeah, and I suppose her husband conveniently tried to fix the problem...with his fist

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

Gawker found the dad's former assistant, and good Lord do I wish this stuff is true:

The breaking point: Heene told his then-assistant of Reptilians who could shape-shift that were running the shadow government, and that his fame would enable him to communicate with the masses and expose said Reptillians. He also told Thomas the world was gonna end in a solar flare in 2012, and that they were running out of time.

Awesome.

Re: Boy Stuck In Balloon

I don't care if they're charged or not. I just don't want to hear about them ever again.
